Matrade records RM120mil in trade prospects from Korea Import Fair debut

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) recorded over RM120mil in sales at the Korea Import Fair (KIF) 2025, held from 7 to 9 July at COEX, Seoul. This was Malaysia's first participation in the event. In a statement, Matrade said the Malaysia Pavilion featured 12 companies and one government agency, making it the largest national pavilion at the fair. Malaysia's participation was larger than that of Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam. Building on this momentum, Matrade carried out promotional activities such as business matching, digital marketing, live streams with local influencers, and media outreach to raise Malaysia's profile and engage Korean buyers. Matrade said these initiatives led to trade prospects exceeding RM120mil, more than double the RM60mil target. It noted that Korean buyers showed strong interest in Malaysian jewellery, footwear, ICT services, apparel, tropical fruits, and food and beverages, reflecting growing demand for Malaysian products in the market. Matrade chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz said the participation in KIF 2025 is part of the agency's broader strategy to unlock export opportunities through targeted international engagement. He said the encouraging outcomes from this event reaffirmed the importance of strategic partnerships, focused promotional efforts and tailored business matching in creating new avenues for Malaysian exporters. Mohd Mustafa also highlighted that Matrade's participation in KIF aligns with Malaysia's long-term vision of strengthening regional connectivity and expanding market access in Northeast Asia.

In a statement today, MATRADE said this is more than double its initial target of RM60 million. Malaysia Pavilion showcased 12 companies and one government agency and was the largest national pavilion at the fair. It also implemented a range of targeted promotional initiatives to amplify Malaysia's presence to include business matching sessions with South Korean importers, digital marketing and social media campaigns, live streaming sessions and strategic media engagements. 'The impact of these initiatives was reflected in the strong results recorded. Malaysian products that garnered strong interest from South Korean buyers were jewellery such as necklaces and bracelets, footwear, ICT services, apparel, tropical fruits, and food and beverages,' it said. KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia recorded RM1.16 billion in potential sales at the 55th International Paris Airshow (IPAS 2025), marking a major milestone for the country's high-technology export ambitions. The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) said IPAS 2025, held from June 16 to 22, 2025, in Le Bourget, France, served as a platform for Malaysia to showcase its evolving aerospace ecosystem, from advanced manufacturing and maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) to aviation training and New Space technologies. "The Malaysian delegation engaged in 145 high-impact business meetings with global buyers, original equipment manufacturers and strategic stakeholders. "Eleven Malaysian companies participated, representing key sub-sectors such as composite aerostructures, aircraft systems, defence-related tech, hydrogen-powered gensets, and fan case manufacturing,' it said in a statement today. MATRADE chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz said the strong outcome at the Paris Airshow demonstrates growing global confidence in Malaysia's end-to-end aerospace capabilities, from precision engineering and MRO to New Space innovation "This momentum reflects the nation's deepening integration into global supply chains, particularly in Europe and the Asia-Pacific. Malaysian exporters must seize this opportunity to scale their international footprint,' he said. Mohd Mustafa said Malaysia's aerospace exports reached RM3.63 billion in the first five months of 2025, signalling continued sectoral resilience and relevance. Meanwhile, MATRADE noted that Malaysia's participation in IPAS aligns with the country's strategic aspirations as outlined in the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 and the Malaysia Aerospace Industry Blueprint 2030, which identify aerospace as a core driver of future-ready industrial transformation. Matrade eyes RM4.5bil trade sales from Mihas 2025
Matrade chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz. PETALING JAYA: The Malaysia External Trade Development Corp (Matrade) is setting its sights on RM4.5bil in halal trade sales for its upcoming 21st Malaysia International Halal Showcase (Mihas 2025), with the event expected to draw 45,000 visitors. The event, which includes the International Sourcing Programme (INSP) Mihas, will return in a hybrid format. The physical session will make its debut at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec) on Sept 17, 2025, while the virtual sessions will run from April 1 to Nov 5, 2025. Matrade aims to attract a total of 450 buyers for INSP Mihas, including 250 physical participants, 150 virtual buyers and 50 premium buyers. This compares to 330 buyers from 53 countries recorded in the previous edition, which generated RM2.53bil in sales. 'Building on the strong momentum of Mihas 2024 which generated RM4.3bil in sales and drew over 43,000 visitors from 90 countries, Mihas 2025 is poised to reach new heights,' said Matrade chairman Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican in a statement. 'With an ambitious target of RM4.5bil in halal trade and 45,000 international visitors, we are amplifying our global impact through smarter, tech-driven connections,' he said, noting the role of the agency's artificial intelligence-powered Madani Digital Trade Platform in facilitating business matching. Matrade chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz said the decision to host INSP Mihas at Mitec reflects Malaysia's growing presence in the halal sector. 'Bringing the physical INSP Mihas to Mitec marks an important milestone for us. It offers Malaysian businesses a central platform to engage with a wider pool of global buyers and expand their reach in the international marketplace,' he said. 'As we scale up, we remain committed to forging meaningful global partnerships and creating greater market access for halal businesses around the world,' he added. INSP Mihas 2025 will involve exporters from 19 sectors such as halal food, fashion, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, logistics, Islamic finance, information and communications technology and education. The showcase is also expected to host 1,700 exhibitors across 2,380 booths and include 45 country pavilions. Registration for the physical and virtual sessions closes on July 15 and Nov 5, respectively.
