RM500,000 fags, vehicles seized in Lahad Datu

LAHAD DATU: Marine police confiscated 215,600 sticks of various brand cigarettes and two vehicles from a house in Silam, here, on Tuesday. Sabah (Region Four) Marine Police Commander ACP Mohd Nazri Ibrahim said a team from the Unit Gempur Marin raided the house at 5.30am. He said a local in his 20s was arrested to assist in the investigation. 'The seizures, including the vehicles, were worth RM507,590,' he said, adding the case would be investigated under the Customs Act 1967. Meanwhile, police arrested three foreigners and seized drugs believed to be syabu in two separate operations by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division, here, on Tuesday. District Police Chief ACP Dzulbaharin Ismail said the first suspect, a 35-year-old Indonesian, was detained at 1.30pm at Jalan Panji. He said police found a translucent plastic packet containing substances believed to be syabu weighing 0.27gm in the suspect's possession. The case would be investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952. 'On the same day, police arrested two men from the Philippines inside a hut in a plantation in Jalan Tengah Nipah and seized 5.45gm of syabu, a modified straw and aluminium foils. 'One of the suspects tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine,' he said, adding that the case would be investigated under Section 39A(1) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952. Dzulbaharin said all the suspects were currently in their custody for further investigations. Eight arrested for alleged smuggling of marine produce off Semporna

SEMPORNA: The Marine Police detained eight individuals for allegedly smuggling marine produce from the Philippines in waters off Pulau Sibangkat early Thursday morning. Marine Police Commander ACP Mohd Nazri Ibrahim said the arrests followed intelligence operations that led to the interception of four boats at around 6.30am. Advertisement A total of 824 mantis shrimp and lobsters were seized during the operation, with the suspects – aged 17 to 40 – found without valid documentation from the Fisheries Department. The case is being investigated under the Fisheries Act 1985, with total seizures estimated at RM116,290. Bids to smuggle out cooking oil, petrol foiled

SEMPORNA: Marine police foiled attempts by two speedboats to smuggle out controlled items via Pulau Boheian waters, here, on Tuesday. Sabah (Region Four) Marine Police Commander ACP Mohd Nazri Ibrahim said a team patrolling in the hotspot area spotted two speedboats at 1.10am. Advertisement 'Both boats were intercepted and 680kg of cooking oil in packets and 2,005 litres of petrol were seized. 'Four foreigners aged between 16 and 38 were detained for attempting to misappropriate the controlled items,' he said. According to Mohd Nazri, the seizures including the assets were worth RM79,260.25 and the case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961. Meanwhile, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) foiled an attempt by a pump boat to smuggle out petrol via Pulau Nusa waters. Semporna Maritime Zone Director Maritime Commander Amir Shubli said an MMEA patrol vessel intercepted a suspicious pump boat without registration number. 'Upon realising the presence of law enforcement, the boat's skipper jumped into the water and escaped into a mangrove area to avoid arrest. 'The boat was however detained at 1.40am about 0.2 nautical miles south of Pulau Nusa. 'An inspection on the pump boat discovered 52 jerry cans containing petrol and three pump engines. 'The items were believed to be smuggled out of the country,' he said, adding all the seizures were taken to the Semporna Maritime Zone for further action. 17,000 litres of diesel seized in Tawau smuggling attempt

KOTA KINABALU: The Marine Police (PPM) foiled a smuggling attempt involving 17,000 litres of subsidised diesel during a special operation in Felda Umas, Tawau, late on Friday (July 11) night. Acting on a public tip-off, the PPM Region 4 team intercepted a tanker lorry at around 10.40pm and discovered diesel stored in the vehicle's main tank. PPM Region 4 Sabah commander ACP Mohd Nazri Ibrahim said the 28-year-old local driver failed to produce any authorisation documents from the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN). The tanker lorry used in the diesel smuggling attempt in Felda Umas, Tawau. 'A total of 17,000 litres of diesel and the tanker lorry were seized, with the overall value estimated at RM296,550,' he said in a statement on Saturday (July 12). The suspect was detained to assist in investigations under the Supply Control Act 1961. All items seized have been handed over to KPDN for further action. Nazri said the PPM remains committed to cracking down on fuel smuggling activities, which threaten national security and public welfare.
