Shahelmey supports IEM Sabah's Golden Jubilee celebration

KOTA KINABALU (June 6): The Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Sabah Branch paid a courtesy visit to Deputy Chief Minister III cum Minister of Works Sabah Datuk Ir. Shahelmey Yahya at his office on June 5. The purpose of the visit was to brief Shahelmey on the upcoming IEM Sabah 50th Jubilee Celebration Dinner, which will be held to commemorate five decades of engineering service and professional contribution in Sabah. The dinner, themed '50 Years of Engineering Excellence', will be graced by the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sabah, Tun Datuk Seri Panglima (Dr) Musa Haji Aman, as the guest of honour. In addition to the dinner briefing, the courtesy call also provided an opportunity to discuss pressing issues concerning the engineering profession in Sabah. Among the matters raised were the challenges and aspirations of young engineers, salary scales and career development for young graduate engineers and the role and responsibilities of professional engineers in ensuring the success of public and private infrastructure projects. As a token of appreciation, IEM Sabah chairman Ir. Ts. Mohd Yaakob Hj Jaafar presented a memento to Shahelmey to commemorate the meaningful engagement and continued collaboration. The IEM Sabah delegation included Ir. Ts. Nicholas Lim – Committee Member and Organising Chairman for the Jubilee Dinner; Ir. Ts. Jamilah Tukang – Protocol Coordinator; Lee Tze Yei – Chairman, Young Engineers Section (YES); Aniq Azraei – Representative, YES; Nor Shakinah Awg Raiman – Chairlady, Women Engineers (WE) Section and Lydia Lisa Edward – Member, WE Section. The meeting concluded on a positive note, with Shahelmey expressing his full support for IEM Sabah's Golden Jubilee celebration and the institution's ongoing efforts in promoting engineering excellence and capacity-building in the state.

IEM Sabah invites TYT to 50th Anniversary Jubilee Celebration

The delegation was led by Ir. Ts. Mohd Yaakob Hj Jaafar, chairman of IEM Sabah Branch, accompanied by Ir. Ts. Tan KJ, JP (Vice Chairman I), Ir. Yap Kok Wai, Paul (Vice Chairman II), Datuk Ir. Willy Chin Tet Fu (immediate past Chairman), Ir. Ts. Nicholas Lim (Committee Member & Organising Chair of IEM Sabah 50th Anniversary Dinner), Ir. Ts. Jamilah Tukang (Committee Member), Albert Chai Jiin Tsong (Vice Chairman II, Young Engineers Section – YES) and Nor Shakinah Awg Raiman (Chairlady, Women Engineers Section – WE) The main objective of the visit was to brief Tun Musa on the history and progress of IEM Sabah over the past five decades, as well as to formally invite him to grace the upcoming IEM Sabah 50th Anniversary Jubilee Celebration as the guest of honour. The Golden Jubilee dinner will be hosted at the Magellan Sutera Resort, Kota Kinabalu on June 14. This dinner will bring together engineering professionals, government officials and key stakeholders to celebrate the branch's legacy of excellence and service. During the visit, the delegation also expressed their sincere appreciation to Tun Musa for his past contributions to the engineering fraternity in Sabah. Notably, they acknowledged the RM500,000 government grant approved during his tenure as Chief Minister of Sabah, which played a pivotal role in the establishment of the IEM Sabah Training Centre at Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP). This centre has since served as a crucial hub for continuing professional development, upskilling and technical training for engineers throughout the state. In his response, the Head of State commended IEM Sabah for its enduring commitment to professional development and infrastructure advancement and congratulated the branch on its upcoming 50th anniversary milestone. He also expressed his gratitude for the recognition and welcomed the invitation to attend the jubilee celebration. The courtesy call concluded with a commemorative group photo and presentation of a token of appreciation to the Governor.

Mohd Yaakob stays as IEM Sabah Branch chairman

Mohd Yaakob Hj Jaafar was retained as the chairman of the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (Sabah Branch) during its 50th Annual General Meeting last Saturday at Le Meridien Hotel, Kota Kinabalu. The meeting started off with Mohd Yaakob welcoming 137 members to the annual affair. The event was made more meaningful with IEM President Ir. Prof. Dr. Jeffrey Chiang joining the meeting. Besides the reporting of the branch performance and audit statement, the members were also informed of new and upcoming events. These include the revamp of its website, the settlement of headquarters soft loan and the invitation to join the branch's Golden Jubilee Dinner on 14 June 2025. The AGM ended with the members witnessing the election of the new executive committee for the 2025/2026 session. Mohd Yaakob is assisted by Vice Chairmen Ir. Ts. KJ Tan, JP and Ir. Paul Yap. The Honorary Secretary and Honorary Treasurer are Ir. Dr. Michael Tay and Ir. Wong Chen Jack respectively while Immediate Past Chairman is Datuk Ir. Willy Chin. The eight Committee Members are Ir. Wah Kheng Haw, Ir. Arius Yu, Ir. Randy Kuan, Ir. Brandon Galimam, Ir. Leona Ng, Ir. Aishahturizdah Ashgul, Ir. Nicholas Lim and Ir. Thien Sen Fong.
