AHF launches Demonstration Garden to support HIV patients
The AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) recently launched its Demonstration Garden at Klarinet Community Health Centre (CHC) to support food security for people living with HIV.
On June 12, the AHF gathered the community together to introduce to them the garden that will benefit participants and support Klarinet CHC patients, also addressing food security for people living with HIV.
'As AHF, we are committed to providing prevention, treatment, and care services for people living with HIV,' said Dr Maxime Molisho, AHF Mpumalanga Provincial Medical Manager.
Dr. Molisho explained the disease in depth, sharing that it weakens the immune system, making individuals more vulnerable to infections. He further shared that factors such as illness, stress, and social conditions can compromise immunity, even before the progression to AIDS.
'Additionally, food insecurity and malnutrition, whether due to lack of access, poor absorption, or inadequate nutritional intake, can exacerbate HIV and hasten its progression,' he added.
The community was thrilled with all the information and skills they learnt from the organisation and the officials from the Department of Agriculture, who shared hands-on instruction on growing cost-effective, high-yield crops to improve food security for them and their families.
AHF commended all the various departments and stakeholders who contributed to the success of the launch, further extending gratitude to the community members for the enthusiasm and commitment they shown towards the initiative.
