ESPN Viewers Praise 'First Take' For Molly Qerim Replacement
ESPN Viewers Praise 'First Take' For Molly Qerim Replacement originally appeared on The Spun. Molly Qerim wasn't leading the charge for "First Take" this Friday morning. The longtime ESPN host had the day off for undisclosed reasons. Qerim has been the host of "First Take" since 2015. She does an excellent job handling some of the most unpredictable personalities in sports TV, such as Stephen A. Smith, Chris "Mad Dog" Russo and Ryan Clark. "In addition to covering all the championship events, Qerim has a breadth of experience with celebrity red carpets, A-list musical and TV/film guest interviews, UFC/MMA coverage, tennis, boxing and more," Qerim's bio for ESPN states. "Off camera, Qerim is a philanthropist and ambassador for Boys and Girls Club of America, the Innocence Project and is an advocate for endometriosis awareness." With the NFL regular season around the corner, Qerim and the "First Take" crew will have plenty of topics to argue about. In the meantime, Peter Schrager is handling any training camp-related stories this Friday. Before this Friday's show kicked off, Schrager shared a photo of him on the set of "First Take." Judging by the reactions to Schrager's post, ESPN viewers want him to be the full-time host. "Please bring some integrity to this show. We look up to you for your honesty and journalism," one fan commented. "No screaming matches please!" Another fan said, "You should be the full-time host, Peter." "ESPN, please for the love of GOD, make this permanent," a third fan wrote. "That's awesome man, miss what GMFB used to be with you, Nate, Kay, and Kyle, but you deserve all of this, one of the best grinders in the business," a fourth fan said. Schrager, who recently worked for NFL Network, signed a multi-year agreement with ESPN in April. He's expected to appear on "Get Up" and "First Take" among other shows. "Peter will have an instant impact at ESPN combining his charismatic style and deep knowledge of the NFL," ESPN president of content Burke Magnus said. "His versatility is an asset and will be on display across our shows and platforms as he becomes a signature voice of our NFL coverage. He is a tremendous addition to our roster." Molly Qerim apologizes after ESPN tricked by social media troll into humiliating error live on TV
First Take host Molly Qerim had to apologize after producers were tricked into broadcasting what they thought was new footage from the Dallas Cowboys training camp. Footage had gone viral on X from one user who claimed to record Dak Prescott throwing a 50-yard gem to his new wide receiver George Pickens on the first day of practice. However, all was not as it seemed. The clip was actually two years old and showed Prescott finding Brandin Cooks instead of Pickens, who didn't even play for the Cowboys then. It meant Qerim had to apologize for the mistake shortly after it had gone out over the airwaves. 'Earlier, we showed video that we identified as George Pickens at Cowboys training camp — it was not George. So, we apologize on that mistake,' she said. NEWS: ESPN Molly Qerim apologizes for the network showing a fake George Pickens training camp play from social media 'Earlier we showed video that we identified as George Pickens at Cowboys training camp. It was not George, so we apologize on that mistake' — MLFootball (@_MLFootball) July 22, 2025 The fan who posted the footage, claiming it was new, was thrilled that he had managed to pull a prank on ESPN. 'First play of Cowboys Training Camp is a Dak Prescott BOMB to George Pickens,' @FergSZN had posted. He then reshared the clip of Qerim's apology to viewers and wrote: 'THEY JUST APOLOGIZED FOR SHOWING MY TWEET LMAO.' In a later post, he added: 'It's actually mind blowing how many people fell for this.' So far, Cowboys camp has descended onto the brink of civil war as Micah Parsons pushes owner Jerry Jones for a new contract. Jones publicly criticized one of his star men on Monday, telling reporters: 'Just because we sign him doesn't mean we're gonna have him. He was hurt six games last year. 'I remember signing a player for the highest paid at the position in the league and he got knocked out two-thirds of the year, Dak Prescott, so there's a lot of things you can think about, just as the player does when you're thinking about committing and guaranteeing money.' Prescott was sidelined last season with a hamstring issue sustained in Week 9 that needed surgery. The quarterback signed a four-year, $240million extension on the first day of the 2024 season. Parsons took a shot at Jones on Tuesday, saying: 'If they don't want me here, they don't want me here. 'I go about my business. I understand the nature of the business. Like I said, as long as I'm here and under contract, I'm going to do what I have to do to perform at the highest level. 'But if this is the end, this is the end, you know? The same way that Jones, Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones and the other Jerry Jones take care of their family, that's the same way I need to take care of my own family.' The Cowboys play in the season opener on September 4 on the road against Super Bowl winners Philadelphia Eagles.

ESPN's 'First Take' Got Duped In Embarrassing Fashion Tuesday
ESPN's 'First Take' Got Duped In Embarrassing Fashion Tuesday originally appeared on The Spun. The fact-checkers at ESPN's First Take might have a scolding coming their way after the way the show was apparently duped on Tuesday morning. While covering the Dallas Cowboys this morning, First Take host Molly Qerim shared a clip from practice of Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens receiving a deep bomb from quarterback Dak Prescott in training camp camp. There's only one problem. Actually, there are at least several problems. That clip is of Brandin Cooks, not George Pickens. The Cowboys have not had a practice yet. The clip is from two years ago. First Take were the victims of a troll job from Cowboys fan @FergSZN, who decided to troll some of his own fans by calling it a bomb from Dak to Pickens. "First play of Cowboys Training Camp is a Dak Prescott BOMB to George Pickens," they wrote on X yesterday morning. As much as people wanted to criticize the X user for tricking them, many more got on ESPN's case for not doing their research: "A joke of a network. Lazy producers didn't even check to see who took the video and when and Molly doesn't have any sense to realize it's wrong as she reads it," one user wrote on X. "Congrats to @espn for airing old video from a random Twitter account and calling it the first day of Training Camp. Beyond lazy," wrote another. "Reason 1001 to never watch that show and anything like it," a third wrote. "WOW. Who checks socials for ESPN? This is shameful lol." "But when I tell y'all these sports media people are frauds with mics and production studios then I'm the haters. Them airing this on National TV is crazy. Nobody knew this was an old clip and that it wasn't George Pickens? I watched the clip yesterday and could tell it wasn't him." "Jesus Christ!! This is why I don't watch ESPN anymore except for games. No research anymore. Just bs." "Throw this in the garbage and restart everything, the fact we have 'journalists' not knowing when training camp starts nor than George Pickens isn't 5'10 is insane, they're genuinely ruining others opportunities who can actually bring sports journalism back It's a bad look. ESPN's Molly Qerim Issues Apology On 'First Take'
ESPN's Molly Qerim Issues Apology On 'First Take' originally appeared on The Spun. ESPN host Molly Qerim issued an apology for an embarrassing blunder on "First Take" on Tuesday morning, July 22. The popular morning debate show was unsurprisingly talking about the Dallas Cowboys, as they always do, on Tuesday morning. "First Take" and its panel of analysts often like to criticize the Cowboys for being overhyped. However, they can't stop talking about Jerry Jones' team, contributing to the very thing they have a problem with. Alas, on Tuesday, "First Take" got fooled by a fake tweet. The ESPN morning show aired a clip of an alleged touchdown pass between Dak Prescott and new wide receiver George Pickens. However, that play never actually took place. It was a clip of an old training camp touchdown from Dak Prescott to Brandin Cooks. The account, @FergSZN, fooled people on Twitter by using an old clip and titling it: "First play of Cowboys Training Camp is a Dak Prescott BOMB to George Pickens 👀👀." Longtime ESPN host Molly Qerim, who has been leading the show with Stephen A. Smith since 2015, narrated the false highlight clip on the air. "During the team's first play of training camp," she narrated, "we saw Dak Prescott able to find Pickens for a massive touchdown. Obviously, a great way to start the day." People fall for fake highlights and news on social media all the time, but you would think that ESPN's "First Take" would be a little better with the fact check. Qerim ultimately apologized for the mistake later on Tuesday morning, admitting to the screwup. ESPN wasn't the only outlet fooled, either, as a Sports Illustrated site wrote up the play as being one from 2025, too. "Welcome back to 'First Take.' Quick cleanup on our part. Earlier, we showed video that we identified as George Pickens at Cowboys training camp," she said. "It was not George Pickens, so we apologize on that mistake." Pickens, a second round NFL Draft pick out of Georgia in 2022, was traded from the Steelers to the Cowboys this offseason. Pickens had 59 catches for 1,000 yards and three touchdowns with the Steelers in 2024. The Cowboys are hoping he'll prove to be an elite No. 2 option, playing alongside CeeDee Lamb in the Dallas offense. Dallas, coming off a disappointing season in 2024, will look to rebound in a major way in 2025. The Cowboys and the Eagles are scheduled to open the season on Thursday, Sept. 4.
