Stabbed Staten Islander lucky to be alive after Italian migrant attack
A Staten Island native came face to face with the worst of Italy's migrant crisis this week when he was nearly killed while vacationing in Milan. Nick Pellegrino was attacked on a train Tuesday by a pair of North African migrants, who stabbed him in the neck with a 5-inch knife before making off with his luggage and jewelry — leaving him to die in a pool of his own blood in his family's homeland, which has experienced a surge in criminal migrants over the past four years. 'With these very loose, lefty immigration laws, these immigrants come into these countries and they're running amok, trying to murder people. It's a playground for terror, for the vicious,' said Pellegrino, 29, speaking by phone from his hospital bed in the town of San Donato Milanese. Advertisement 'It's f–king crazy,' he said. 'I know America has a big immigration problem, but it is worse here.' 4 Nicholas Pellegrino, left, knows he's lucky to be alive: 'Life is a gift.' Obtained by the New York Post Pellegrino — a former teacher at prestigious Monsignor Farrell High School in Oakwood who was visiting friends and family in Italy — recalled looking down at his phone as the train from Melegnano to Milan Bovisa rolled into the San Giuliano Milanese station. Advertisement When the train doors opened, his mid-20s, Arabic-speaking attackers darted towards him, stabbing him in the neck, nicking his jugular vein, Pellegrino said. 'They looked like the 9/11 hijackers,' Pellegrino said. 'I remember looking at the floor in the train and just seeing the blade of the knife, and the most frightening amount of blood I have ever seen.' Pellegrino was later told by EMTs he lost about a liter-and-a-half of blood, said Pellegrino, who now teaches religion and coaches track at Archbishop Riordan High School in San Francisco. Before stealing his luggage and leaving him for dead, Pellegrino's homicidal attackers snatched the gold crucifix from around his neck, he said. Obtained by the New York Post A blood-soaked Pellegrino managed to stumble onto the train platform, where a 16-year-old boy dialed 112, Italy's 911 equivalent. He was filmed on the platform by bystanders, repeating, 'I don't want to die, Lord,' in since-deleted videos that were posted to Instagram. 'It took the ambulance 15 minutes to get to me,' he said. 'A few more minutes, and I was a goner. I could feel, with every heartbeat, another gush of blood coming out.' Advertisement He was rushed to the emergency room, where surgeons closed the wound with nine stitches. He'll remain under observation until at least Saturday, as doctors wait for a dangerous blood clot to shrink. 4 Pellegrino said the two men who attacked him have been detained. Nicholas Pellegrino/ Facebook Italian authorities have arrested the two migrants, but have not yet released their names, Pellegrino said. Before attacking the bi-coastal New Yorker, the two men smacked an elderly man in the head with a glass bottle and stole an old woman's necklace, Milan investigators told Pellegrino. Since at least 2021, Italy has seen a surge in migrant arrivals by sea from Nigeria, Sudan, Gambia, Morocco, Eritrea, Tunisia, Bangladesh and Syria. Over 157,600 undocumented migrants and asylum seekers crossed the Mediterranean Sea to get to Italy in 2023. Last year, 66,000 migrants crossed into Italy. Their arrivals have put a strain on public resources and their presence has become a source of political tension, leading officials to declare a state of emergency. 4 Pellegrino visits Italy on his summer breaks to see family and friends. Nicholas Pellegrino/ Facebook Pellegrino said his brush with death has only reinforced his belief in God. Advertisement 'I used to doubt,' admitted Pellegrino. 'I don't doubt anymore. This has grounded me in my faith. I know Jesus saved me, and I will always be a believer.' He's got a July 24 return flight booked, and said he'll make a full recovery from his frightening ordeal. His mother in Staten Island, not so much. 'My poor mother,' he said. 'She's been a basket case.'

NYC teacher caught swearing at student in anti-Trump classroom meltdown wrote children's book against prejudice
The Staten Island teacher who railed against President Trump in his classroom and screamed at a student who told him to calm down — calling the boy a 'punk a–' — wrote a children's book against prejudice, The Post has learned. Anthony Bilotti, 49, who taught Italian at elite Monsignor Farrell High School, was forced to resign last week after an audio of his ear-splitting tirade at a teen he accused of 'disrespect' was leaked online. The outburst belies the messages in 'You're Different Than Me,' a book that Bilotti independently published in September among Amazon's Children's Books on Racism & Prejudice. The book, written in rhymes and self-illustrated with crayons, is about a man's encounter with an extraterrestrial who knocks at his door. The man declares he doesn't like the little green visitor: 'The reason I don't? Well that's simple to see. After all, you're an alien, you're different than me.' The alien tells about himself and why he came to Earth, gaining the man's acceptance. 'Maybe they aren't so different after all,' a summary of the story concludes. Besides teaching and writing, Bilotti describes himself on Instagram as a singer/guitarist/lyricist who jams with a band, a skateboarder, husband, father and 'happy guy.' Bilotti obtained a provisional NY state license to teach Italian in grades 7 to 12 in 2003, but it expired in 2008, records show. A Farrell HS spokesman refused to explain. In a statement on the incident, the school did not name Bilotti. 'While we encourage open discussions and diverse perspectives, these conversations must always reflect mutual respect and our Catholic values,' it said. In the nearly two-minute audio, Bilotti is first heard ranting against Trump and Republicans. When a student mutters, 'Control yourself, man,' the teacher explodes, delivering a high-decibel verbal assault on the teen, including yelling that he would take back the letter of recommendation he wrote for the boy if he could. 'You got your letter, so now everything's good, right?' he shouted. ' You got your high grade on the midterm, so everything's good. Now you can treat me like that. After all I've stood up for you. You punk ass. You really gonna do that to me?' Bilotti did not return calls for comment.

NYC high school teacher launches unhinged anti-Trump tirade at student in leaked audio, then resigns
A teacher at an all-boys Catholic high school on Staten Island resigned after going on an anti-Trump tirade during class that devolved into calling one of his students a 'punk a–' during an unhinged outburst, according to a recently leaked video clip. The unnamed teacher at Monsignor Farrell High School was recorded last Wednesday by a student while speaking vehemently against President Trump — criticizing the president's order to release billions of gallons of water in California to fight the Los Angeles wildfires and labeling him a dictator, according to a clip obtained by The Post. The instructor was placed on leave after school leaders were made aware of his tirade and he later submitted his resignation, according to a statement from the private school obtained by 'Libs of TikTok.' Neither Monsignor Farrell High School or the Archdiocese of New York responded to The Post's request for comment by publication. The educator's screaming rant against the president and the Republican party was apparently provoked by one student bringing up politics during the class. 'I'm sorry to the rest of you. It's not my job. I'm not even supposed to do it, but I'm hoping to make some sense to somebody,' he said in reference to speaking about politics. 'Jesus Christ,' the Catholic school teacher said, taking the Lord's name in vain. 'You guys will be able to vote next time around. If you vote Republican, you're bringing us all down.' The educator then proceeded to spin himself up — breathlessly stating that Republicans 'didn't believe' in the values that they publicly advocate for, according to the audio clip first obtained and published by 'Libs of TikTok.' As the teach became more and more enraged, he began to target one student with whom he apparently had a personal relationship. 'I'm not kidding when I say, 'Wipe that smile off your face.' Detention, I just wrote you a referral mentally. You're going to detention for bringing up politics in class,' the instructor aggressively yelled at a student at the private school. 'You wanna go for two,' the teacher asked threateningly, causing the student to respond defensively. 'Control yourself, man,' the student said sheepishly. That request for comportment launched the adult teacher into a full-blown toddler-style meltdown — hurling personal insults and nasty comments at the student. 'Excuse me?! Excuse me?!' the teacher screamed at the top of his lungs and then went straight to cut the heartstrings. 'After all I put up with you for the last two years? And talked you up! And stood your back when they threatened you!' he yelled directly at the student in the class. 'Are you serious? Treating me with that disrespect?! Are you serious?! Are you serious?!' the apoplectic educator said in an increasingly higher-pitched voice. 'If I could take back your letter of recommendation to college right now, I would,' he cruelly barked at the student off-camera. 'You talk to me like that? After everything that I've done for you?!' he added. The berserk educator then called off the detention sentencing but threatened: 'Don't ever talk to me again personally' — adding that if the student ever spoke in class again without raising his hand, he would receive a week's worth of detention. 'You got your letter, so now everything's good right? You got your high grade on the midterm so everything's good? Now you can treat me like that?' he screeched. 'After all I've stood up for you. You punk a–,' his rant concluded beyond the point of decency. Monsignor Farrell High School put the out-of-control teacher on leave the following day, and the teacher subsequently resigned from the faculty, according to the statement from the school obtained by 'Libs of TikTok.' 'While we encourage open discussions and diverse perspectives, these conversations must always reflect mutual respect and our Catholic values,' school president Louis R. Tobacco said in the written release. 'Unfortunately, the recent classroom events did not reflect our mission. We reaffirm our commitment to the values that define Monsignor Farrell as a place of faith, learning, and community,' the statement read.
