Bengaluru makes weather record, sees driest June in 8 years, but coolest in 7
Bengaluru is breaking weather records yet again, with the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) observatory recording just 58 mm of rainfall, which is almost half the average of 110.3 mm. This marks the city's driest June in eight years, a social media post claimed. However, in a surprising contrast, the average maximum temperature for the month was 29.1 degrees Celsius, making it the coolest June Bengaluru has seen in seven years. Bengaluru was also cooler than Lonavala, a hill station in Maharashtra. In a contradiction, data from the IMD revealed that Bengaluru saw sweltering temperature during the same period last year, observing a highest maximum temperature of 35.4 degrees Celsius in June 2024. However, data analysed between March 1 to May 31 said the entire state of Karnataka except Chamarajanagara has received an 'excess' or 'large excess' rainfall this year. In another contradiction, as many as 71 people died in Karnataka due to heavy pre-monsoon rains in the state since April, according to chief minister Siddaramaiah's office. Rainfall during the 2025 pre-monsoon season is the highest recorded in the last 125 years.
