All 3 people aboard a small plane that crashed in the ocean off California died, officials say
MONTEREY, Calif. (AP) — All three people aboard a small twin-engine plane that crashed into the Pacific Ocean off California's central coast perished, law enforcement officials said. The Monterey County Sheriff's Office confirmed late Sunday that the three occupants of the plane that went down about 300 yards (275 meters) off Point Pinos were dead. Officials didn't say what led to the Saturday crash. Witnesses said they heard an aircraft engine revving and then a splash in the water, KSBW-TV reported. People on shore later reported seeing debris wash up from the crashed plane. The twin-engine Beech 95-B55 Baron with three people aboard took off from the San Carlos airport at 10:11 p.m. and was last seen at 10:37 p.m. near Monterey, according to flight tracking data from Searchers in a boat found one person around 3 a.m. Divers found the remaining two people inside the aircraft between 6:30 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. All three were unresponsive, the Coast Guard said. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate.

Monterey County plane crash kills all 3 on board
The United States Coast Guard said three people were recovered and found unresponsive after a plane crash in Monterey County on Saturday. The Monterey County Sheriff's Office later said the three were dead. Search and rescue crews recovered the three passengers on Sunday, the Coast Guard said. Just before 11 p.m., the Coast Guard Station in Monterey was alerted to a twin-engine Beechcraft that had crashed between 200-300 yards off Point Pinos. The Coast Guard said three people were on board. A boat and helicopter crew responded to the scene and located the Beechcraft. One person was found around 3 a.m., the Coast Guard said. The other two were found inside the aircraft later Sunday morning, officials said. According to the Coast Guard, the plane took off from the San Carlos airport. Pacific Grove Police said they received calls about the plane crash after 10 p.m. and were told it crashed near the coastline of Asilomar State Beach. One Pacific Grove resident said he heard a plane circling his neighborhood and then a loud thump about 30 seconds later. The Monterey County Sheriff's Office identified the three victims as 60-year-old Steve Eugene Clatterbuck of Salinas, 36-year-old James Vincent of Monterey and 44-year-old Jamie Lee Tabscott of Monterey. The office said in a statement that, "The family and friends of the deceased have expressed that they wish to extend their gratitude for the outpouring of support from the community. They ask for privacy during this difficult time." Pacific Grove Police, the Monterey Fire Department, Monterey County Sheriff's Office and San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, Cal Fire and the Coast Guard were all at the scene. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.

3 bodies recovered from small plane crash in California
Three bodies have been recovered following a July 26 small plane crash in Pacific Grove, California, according to local reports. The Monterey County Sheriff's Office confirmed to USA TODAY July 27 that the bodies had been recovered. Commander Andres Rosas, a spokesperson for the office, said that identification of the bodies is pending notification of next of kin. The U.S. Coast Guard said in a press release that the first body was found in the early morning hours of Sunday, followed by the fuselage of the Beechcraft BE55 and the remaining two bodies. The Federal Aviation Administration said in a preliminary statement to USA TODAY that three people were on the plane it alerted as missing off the coast of the town July 26. The Coast Guard added that Coast Guard Station Monterey was alerted to the crash, just north of Asilomar State Beach and 17 Mile Drive, at around 10:55 p.m. Saturday night. Flight tracking data published by FlightAware shows flight N8796R leaving from San Carlos Airport at 10:11 p.m. PT heading toward the Monterey Regional Airport. The tracker indicates that the plane turned around over the seaside town and was last seen around 10:37 p.m. PT. Cal Fire told KSBW that witnesses reported hearing an aircraft engine revving, followed by a splash in the ocean. The NTSB will lead the investigation, the FAA said in its statement.
