No, Trevor Bauer did not give up a 594-foot HR in return from Japan's minor leagues
Former Cy Young Award winner Trevor Bauer hasn't appeared in a big-league game since MLB handed down a 194-game suspension for sexual misconduct back in 2021. And the 34-year-old's road back to MLB could not being going worse in Japan. But for as bad as Bauer has been with the Yokohama BayStars in NPB, he was not on the wrong end of baseball history this week. Bauer, who was sent down to the Japanese minor leagues after posting an NPB-worst ERA in 2025, made his return to NPB on Wednesday where he took yet another loss. In the sixth inning, Bauer gave up a no-doubt home run to the Hiroshima Toyo Carp's Elehuris Montero. It was a bomb, sure. But social media claimed that Montero's home run traveled an impossibly far 594 feet. Take a look: This isn't taking anything way from Montero's home run. He crushed it. But that homer clearly didn't come close to a baseball-record distance. It seemed low 400s, at most. That 594-foot figure seemingly originated from Twitter/X's awful AI bot Grok and a parody account. Still, fans ran with the number and it showed up everywhere. The real distance, though, didn't even crack 400 feet. According to The Athletic's Levi Weaver, the Carp measured the home run at 393 feet. Twitter/X was off by some 200 feet. If we're looking at history that Bauer actually has a chance to be a part of in Japan, it's that he's on pace to post the worst ERA- in league history by a foreign player. That's more realistic than a 600-foot home run.

Then again, it was last sold here two decades ago, so you'd be forgiven for not remembering it at all. Elsewhere in the world, the Pajero has been on Hiatus for several years—axed as part of a broader cost-cutting strategy that also saw Mitsubishi curtail future plans for Europe and North America. Since then, the global Renault-Nissan ( and Mitsubishi ) Alliance has been hard at work updating its brands' SUV lineups, and somewhere along the line, a new Pajero was green-lit Our spies expect the revived Pajero to be sold in several overseas markets as a budget-friendly alternative to some of the Alliance's more-expensive 4x4s. It is expected to be offered with four-cylinder, hybrid-electric powertrain that may future-proof it somewhat, but could cause it to butt up against European emissions regulations in short order. Whether it's available as a diesel will also likely be market-dependent. Absent some unforeseen pivot toward the dystopian, we're highly unlikely to see the Pajero in the United States. Not that we're hurting for it, really; we get both the Nissan Armada and the Infiniti QX80, which are far closer to the pinnacle of the Alliance's 4×4 offerings. Keider Montero keeps Tigers pitching dominance going in win over Rays
DETROIT (AP) — Keider Montero and three relievers combined on a five-hitter and the Detroit Tigers beat the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 on Monday night. The Tigers (58-34) have won four straight games while only allowing four runs, improving to 24 games over .500 for the first time since 2013. Montero (4-1) allowed one run and four hits and a walk in six innings while striking out four. After losing his first start, Montero is 4-0 with a 3.31 ERA in 11 outings as a starter and bulk reliever. Tyler Holton, Brenan Hanifee and Will Vest each pitched a scoreless inning to complete the win. Shane Baz (8-4) gave up three runs and seven hits with two walks and seven strikeouts in six innings for the Rays, who have lost seven of their last 10 games. Baz entered the game with a 5-0 record in his last eight starts. RED SOX 9, ROCKIES 3 BOSTON (AP) — Roman Anthony hit a two-run home run, Ceddanne Rafaela homered for the third straight game and Boston beat the Colorado. Boston rookie Richard Fitts (1-3) allowed five hits, two earned runs and struck out six over 5 2/3 innings to notch his first major league victory.
