Write-in candidate joins race for four-year term on Danville Area School Board
DANVILLE — A Danville woman will make a competitive race of the election for four four-year seats on the Danville Area School Board. Amber Neidig will join the ticket as a Democrat after receiving enough write-in votes to qualify her as a candidate. Montour County's official election results show Neidig received a total of 25 Democratic write-ins, 1.4 percent of the total votes cast in the May election. Neidig officially joined the November election on Monday, according to Montour County Director of Elections Holly Brandon. Monday, Neidig said she was honored to have been nominated to appear on the ballot and looks forward to contributing to the community. 'For too long we've been led to believe that we had to be a part of a certain class or carry a particular last name in America to be involved in deciding, building and protecting our future,' Neidig said. 'It has led to a generation of Americans who not only don't see a need for, but who don't even understand how our local, state and federal governments work.' The candidate said, if elected, she will promote academic, social and mental health support. 'I would work for a holistic student approach with consistent funding of academics, before- and after-school programs, as well as sports, clubs and extracurricular activities that support academics and community service,' Neidig said. 'All of these investments do not come cheap, as every taxpayer knows. I plan to go through voted line items with a fine-tooth budgetary comb and reassure the community that their investment in the DASD education system is an investment in their future, while working tirelessly to keep the taxpayer burden to a minimum.' Neidig brings the total candidates running for the four four-year seats up to five. Other candidates for the seats include incumbents Adam Gregg and Derl Reichard Jr. as well as newcomers David Ackley and Ethan Benjamin. Three of the same candidates, Derl Reichard Jr., Adam Gregg and Ethan Benjamin, are also up for two two-year seats on the board.
