Compared to last year, AAA said prices in Georgia were 45 cents less than in 2024. 'Gas prices remain low across the country in many states, providing some relief for drivers; however, with hurricane season in full swing, any significant storms could disrupt supply and lead to higher prices at the pump,' Montrae Waiters, AAA-The Auto Club Group spokeswoman, said in a statement. 'It's a good time for drivers to consider fuel-saving strategies to prepare for potential fluctuations.' AAA said the U.S. crude oil inventory is roughly 7% lower than the five-year average for this time of year. This comes as prices across the nation fall and summer driving season continues. While inventories of crude oil are down, AAA also reported that supply in the market is outweighing demand. National gas prices were averaging $3.12 per gallon, according to AAA. 'Crude oil continues to trend under $80 a barrel, and demand appears to have slowed down, contributing to lower pump prices,' Montrae Waiters, AAA-The Auto Club Group spokeswoman, said in a statement. Nationally, gas prices have gone down by three cents on average. On top of the current trend, OPEC, the group of oil-producing countries, announced on the weekend that it will increase its output again starting in June. AAA said that would 'widen the supply surplus, which could cause crude prices to continue to fall,' helping out drivers during the summer months. For Georgians, the most pricey places to fill up the tank are Savannah with prices at $2.96 per gallon, Macon at $2.92 and Atlanta at $2.91. The cheapest places to fill up your gas tank are Augusta-Aiken at $2.77, Dalton at $2.74 and Catoosa-Dade-Walker at $2.72, according to AAA. [SIGN UP: WSB-TV Daily Headlines Newsletter]

AAA urges drivers to plan a safe ride home on ‘4/20 Day'
AAA is asking people who partake in cannabis to plan ahead for a safe, sober ride home. April 20 is the unofficial national marijuana holiday celebrated by cannabis culture and an AAA spokesperson says this can mean high stakes on our nation's roadways. Recent research by the AAA revealed that about 85% of cannabis users admit to driving the same day they consumed. 'No matter the legality or medical prescription of cannabis, taking the wheel while impaired by its effects is not only unlawful but extremely dangerous,' Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA – The Auto Club Group said. 'The road requires clear heads, not clouded minds. If you plan to celebrate 4/20, find a safe ride before taking any impairing substances. This is critical so drivers do not have to decide if they're sober enough to drive.' The study found that 44.1% of those polled said they consume cannabis multiple times per day. Almost 47% of those polled believe they either drive the same, a little better (14.7%), or much better (19.4%) while high on cannabis.
