Loading the player instance is taking more time than usual Loading the player instance is taking more time than usual For mature students with disabilities, Place Cartier Adult Education Centre in Beaconsfield offers work skills and social programs. Like all schools, it's grad season for the hard-working folks at the school on Montreal's West Island. Student Stephanie Toriani says it's been a good year. 'Math, English, French, and we have exams as well, but I passed!' she said. The centre is part of the Lester B. Pearson School Board, with 150 mature students with learning challenges. It also offers work training and other vital courses for people 17 years and up living with disabilities. They put together their own graduation day party. Educator Amanda Dowbyhuz says it's all part of the 'Thrive' program. 'Events like this kind of show how they can plan a party,' she said. 'They bring their positive attitudes and their amazing ideas.' With the gym full of dancers and music, student Tevin Morrison-Davis said, 'It's a party and I'm a DJ!' Austin Amato-Reede said the work training experience he received is satisfying because he worked in the coffee shop on-site. 'I'm proud of myself for doing it,' he said. 'My school year was really great.' Morrison-Davis and Amato-Reede added more skills by helping out with the camera work and interview questions. 'It's an opportunity for them to practice the leadership skills that they've been honing all year,' said pedagogical consultant Matthew Kennedy. 'We do a lot of events, but this is the main one that is put on by students this year.' Every year is full of accomplishments for these students. '[We] celebrate all our differences and we're all accepting here and we consider ourselves a one big family,' said special education technician Erliza Magajes.

Islanders fans celebrate start of Matthew Schaefer in grand fashion at UBS Arena NHL draft party

Mathieu Darche called the shots from the makeshift war room in the Islanders' dressing room at UBS Arena, and hundreds of fans reacted to his decisions from just a few dozen yards away. Fans filled the floor and the lower bowl for Friday's draft party at the arena, with some current and former players making cameos among the crowd, including Mat Barzal, Jean-Gabriel Pageau, Casey Cizikas and Scott Mayfield. The overwhelming sentiment from those in attendance: excitement and optimism, both with the No. 1 selection of Matthew Schaefer and the team trading Noah Dobson to Montreal for the 16th and 17th picks and Swedish fourth-liner Emil Heineman. 3 Fans of the New York Islanders react and celebrate to Matthew Schaefer being drafted first overall at their official NHL Draft Party at UBS Arena on June 26, 2025 in Elmont, New York. IHG's Voco brand will add its first hotels in Canada with signings in Montreal, Toronto and Niagara Falls. The Voco Niagara Falls -- Fallsview will be a conversion of what was a Radisson hotel. Vrancor Group announced its acquisition of the 232-room hotel in February and plans a renovation. IHG expects a Voco reopening in late 2026. The 55-room Voco Montreal will be a new hotel in downtown Montreal expected to open in 2027. The Voco Toronto Airport West, situated near Toronto Pearson International Airport, will also be a newbuild hotel. Targeted to open in 2027, the 180-room property aims to be a zero-emissions, carbon-neutral hotel. The upscale Voco brand launched in 2018 and now has 115 hotels, including 21 in the U.S, according to Voco's website. IHG says Voco has an operational framework conducive to conversions, which has been a driving force behind its rapid expansion.
