Fourth and final body removed from plane crash wreckage in Southend three days after crash

The fourth and final body has been removed from the wreckage of a plane crash in Southend, as the airport announced that it would be reopening to passengers on Thursday. The medical plane crashed in Southend on Sunday, shortly after taking off from the city's airport. All four people on board the aircraft were killed in the crash. Essex Police said that retrieving the bodies had been a "complex and delicate" operation. Det Ch Supt Morgan Cronin said: "Our work is very much ongoing away from the site, and our investigation in parallel with the AAIB (Air Accidents Investigation Branch) continues. "The aircraft is being carefully dismantled now to move into the next phase of the investigation." The four dead have yet to be officially identified, with experts using forensic methods such as DNA, fingerprints, and tattoos. On Tuesday, a crowd funder was set up for the family of a Chilean nurse Maria Fernanda Rojas Ortiz, 31, who was reportedly on her first day on the job when the plane went down. According to a document that lists passengers, Ms Ortiz was on board along with two Dutch pilots, and a German doctor, believed to be Dr Matthias Eyl, 46. The team had dropped off a patient in Southend for treatment in the UK. They were due to return to base in the Netherlands before the crash at about 3.48pm. Zeusch Aviation, based at Lelystad Airport in the Netherlands, said in a statement on Monday: "It is with deep sadness that we confirm there were no survivors among the people on board flight SUZ1. "Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the victims, their families, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time." London Southend Airport had been closed ever since the accident, but on Wednesday partially re-opened to a small number of passengers. It said it would reopen fully on Thursday. A spokesman said: 'Four EasyJet flights will land at London Southend Airport [on Wednesday] evening. Eastern Airways will also operate an empty positioning flight. "Normal airline operations resume from the morning of Thursday. "Our thoughts remain with the families and friends of those who tragically lost their lives on Sunday. Throughout the course of this week, we have continued to support the air accident investigation team as they carry out their work."

Police say 4 people were killed in a small plane crash at London Southend airport

LONDON (AP) — All four people aboard a small plane that crashed shortly after taking off from London Southend Airport are dead, police said Monday. Essex Police said work continued to formally identify the victims of Sunday's crash. "At this stage, we believe all four are foreign nationals," Police Chief Superintendent Morgan Cronin told reporters. Britain's national news agency, PA, reported that a document listing passengers indicated that two Dutch pilots and a Chilean nurse were among those aboard. The Beechcraft B200 Super King Air operated by Dutch firm Zeusch Aviation had flown from Athens, Greece, to Pula in Croatia before heading to Southend. It was due to return to its home base of Lelystad in the Netherlands on Sunday evening. The 12-meter (39-foot) turboprop plane came down moments after takeoff and burst into flames. 'At this stage, it is too early to speculate on what may have caused this tragic accident,' said Lisa Fitzsimons of Britain's Air Accidents Investigation Branch, which said it sent a 'multi-disciplinary team including inspectors with expertise in aircraft operations, human factors, engineering and recorded data' to the airport. London Southend is a relatively small airport, around 45 miles (72 kilometers) east of the British capital, used for short-haul flights. The airport remained closed on Monday with no word on when it would reopen. Zeusch Aviation operates medical evacuation and transplant flights as well as aerial mapping and private charters, according to its website. The company said that 'our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the victims, their families, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.' The Beechcraft B200 Super King Air, first built in the 1970s, is an aviation workhorse used in a wide variety of roles around the world. In 2017, a plane of the same model crashed into the roof of a shopping mall in Melbourne, Australia, moments after takeoff, killing the pilot and four American tourists.

Four confirmed dead in small plane crash at London Southend airport

Four people died after a plane crashed at London's Southend Airport. Four people were killed when a small plane crashed at a London regional airport at the weekend, UK police said on Monday. The plane went down around 4 pm on Sunday, shortly after departing London Southend Airport in southeast England for the Netherlands. "Sadly, we can now confirm that all four people on board died," Essex Police chief superintendent Morgan Cronin told reporters. "We are working to officially confirm their identities. At this stage, we believe all four are foreign nationals," he added. Cronin said the force was interviewing dozens of witnesses, and detectives and forensic teams were working to "build an accurate picture of what happened". He added that the airport "will remain closed until further notice". Video footage had shown a 12-metre (39-feet) plane in flames with a plume of black smoke at Southend-on-Sea. Police evacuated a nearby golf club and rugby club as a precaution. According to the BBC, the plane was a Beechcraft B200. Southend-on-Sea is about 65 kilometres (40 miles) east of the capital, and its airport is the sixth largest in the London area. AFP
