Pitt State camp offers hands-on nursing summer camp for kids
PITTSBURG, Kan. — The summer break for some Pittsburg area kids involved a trip to the hospital Thursday.
It was the Simulation Hospital inside Pitt State's McPherson Hall. Irene Ransom Bradley School of Nursing faculty, staff and students hosted seven to 11-year olds in this free Morning in Nursing Summer Camp.
The kids rotated through five stations during their two hours on campus and got to experience things like CPR, handwashing and using the Anatomage virtual patient.

It's the perfect camp for a young lady by the name of Mya Yaghmour: She wants to be a nurse like her mom and sister.
'You get to learn some pretty valuable things, and it's a really fun camp, and that all the people here are so nice, and it's probably a good camp to do if you want to be a nurse when you're older,' said Yaghmour.
'Why do you think that kids should get to experience something like this?'
'To get them interested in healthcare. Not just nursing, but all of healthcare. It's very exciting. Hopefully, they'll keep that passion and want to be nurses, or something in the healthcare profession,' said Nancy Tyler, PSU Sim Hospital & Skills Lab Coordinator.
The university has a slew of camps scheduled through next month that you can check out here.
