Video: Goldendoodle Is Taking Big Brother ‘Responsibilities' Pretty Seriously
Dogs love to be the only child in the household, and the addition of a new furry sibling or a baby might leave them confused at first. However, they are also quick to form lifelong bonds with the new member while also taking on new 'responsibilities' as a brother or a sister. A Goldendoodle named Mostly recently attained a new promotional role as a brother to his baby sibling. In a video posted on the account @mostlythedoodle, the canine quickly realized that he wasn't the baby anymore and had a little one to look after. An Instagram video showed the dog taking care of the newborn baby while realizing that he has not one but two siblings to tend to. While this might look overwhelming, the canine was more than welcoming of the baby, with his little actions proving his status as the big brother and protector. The owner aptly described Mostly's thoughts in the video, saying, 'When you used to be the baby but now you have responsibilities.' The clip began with the Goldendoodle using his paw to rock the baby in his little chair. The baby, seemingly wearing a white onesie, was fast asleep because of his dog brother's loving care. As the canine took care of his baby brother, his jaw appeared to drop, likely making him realize the extra work he must put in to take care of the new baby in the household. However, Mostly quickly adapted to his role as a brother, which now extended to two siblings. Despite being a 'bit dramatic' initially, the Goldendoodle composed himself and cuddled beside his baby brother on the chair. With the baby resting and the chair rocking, the dog gently showered the newborn with some love, completely embracing his new role. Meanwhile, fans and followers applauded Mostly for bravely taking on his role as the big brother. One claimed that the dog finally found his 'purpose,' while another mentioned that he took his promotion seriously. Goldendoodle Has the Sweetest Reaction to Smelling New Baby Brother's Hospital Blanket
Introducing a baby to your family is one of the biggest changes that you can make — it affects your entire household, pets included. As much as many expectant parents dream of the best friends and partners in crime their dog and baby will be, it doesn't always happen that way. Some dogs take a little longer to adjust to the loud new human taking up space in their home (and taking up way too much of their parents' attention). But once in awhile, magic happens and the dog and their newborn baby brother or sister hit it off immediately. In the case of the Goldendoodle and his little brother in the video below, it absolutely was love at first sight... and it all started with a hospital blanket. On Tuesday March 11, @mostlythedoodle shared a video of her dog's relationship with her baby boy so far, and it's clear to see that they've been besties from the beginning. They started out by bringing Mostly a hospital blanket the baby had used to smell so that he could get used to the new smell before the baby came home. Not only did he get used to it, but he cuddled with that blanket — how did he know that it meant his new best friend was on the way?! The video ends with a clip of Mostly sleeping on a bed next to his baby brother's crib, where he's soundly snoozing. "Now he wants to be next to the baby all the time," his mom wrote. How sweet is this? There were likely a lot of factors that went into how well Mostly got along with his baby brother from the jump, like training and other prep work his parents may have done, along with Mostly's personality. But considering how often parents to be are advised to do this before bringing their babies home, was having a hospital blanket brought home before meeting the baby the key to their peaceful relationship? Opinions seem to be pretty mixed. While some people often swear by it, others are skeptical about whether or not this works, and as one dog training blog pointed out, in some cases, it may even be a dangerous method to use. Why? As Pooch Parenting points out, not only may the blanket smell less like your baby and more like a hospital, but they may think the blanket is a toy and thus think that all baby blankets in the house are toys, destroying them one by one. The idea behind the hospital blanket is what truly works, though — finding any way you can to prep your dog for the change before they become a big brother or sister. You can let them smell the baby's soap and shampoo, set up their nursery, and keep baby items around the house so that they have clues that something is changing and their world won't be quite as rocked. The rest is up to your dog and your baby. With any luck, they'll be friends in no time.🐶🐾🐾
