Harsh Gupta, a 19-year-old from Kalyan, Maharashtra, has turned his failures into fuel and shattered stereotypes to earn a seat at IIT Roorkee. But this isn't just a story of academic success; it's a tale of determination, illness, poverty, and of a roadside pani puri vendor, Santosh Gupta, Harsh lives in a cramped two-room chawl in Thane district with his parents, grandmother, and two younger brothers. The family, with its modest earnings, had little access to resources or awareness of elite institutes like IIT. Harsh first heard of IIT only after his Class 10 boards, during the Covid-19 pandemic. Once Called '11th Fail', Pani Puri Seller's Son Makes It to IIT Roorkee
Harsh Gupta, a 19-year-old boy from Kalyan, has achieved what many only dream of—he has secured admission to IIT Roorkee, one of India's top engineering colleges. But what makes his story truly special is the path he took to get there. Harsh's father sells pani puri on the roadside. His family of six lives in a small two-room chawl in Thane district. Money was always tight, and the idea of cracking the IIT exam seemed impossible—especially since Harsh didn't even know about IITs until after his Class 10 exams during the COVID-19 lockdown. By the time he joined Motion Education in Kota, a well-known coaching institute, he was already far behind. The Class 11 syllabus was nearly finished, and Harsh struggled to keep up. He ended up failing Class 11, a big setback that led to harsh comments from relatives and doubt within his own family. But Motion Education didn't give up on him. They gave him not just academic help but also personal support. 'They helped me rebuild not just my academics, but my confidence,' Harsh said. Things got even harder when Harsh was diagnosed with Rectal Prolapse, a painful medical condition. It meant frequent hospital visits and long periods of rest. Studying became almost impossible. But even during these tough times, RRD Sir, Head of the JEE Division at Motion, stood by him, offering guidance and motivation. To make things worse, Harsh also lost close family members just before important exams. But he stayed focused. He took a drop year, joined Motion again, and prepared for the exams one more time. His hard work paid off. He scored 98.9 percentile in JEE Main and cracked JEE Advanced, earning his seat at IIT Roorkee. 'There were moments when I was physically and emotionally exhausted. But Motion never gave up on me. They believed in me even when I lost belief in myself,' said Harsh. Harsh's story is a shining example of what is possible with dedication, the right support, and never giving up—no matter where you come from. Motion Education, led by NV Sir (Nitin Vijay), has helped thousands of students like Harsh. In JEE Advanced 2025, over 3,231 of their 6,332 students qualified, a success rate of 51.02%, which is more than double the national average of 23.68%. But for Harsh, success isn't just about numbers. It's about proving that dreams don't care where you come from—they only care how hard you're willing to work for them.

JEE Advanced 2025: Record 9,404 female candidates qualify, marking highest since 2017
The JEE Advanced 2025 results show progress in the area of gender representation, with 9,404 female candidates qualifying, the greatest number since 2017. 'The growth from 7,137 female qualifiers in 2017 (~14.1%) to 9,404 female qualifiers in 2025 (~17.3%) demonstrates the success of continued programming promoting more girls to enter STEM', Nitin Vijay, Founder and CEO, Motion Education. Mr. Vijay pointed to a positive trend for girl candidates in the current academic year. He said, 'Increased opportunities are driven by the addition of 1,364 new seats and a 20% female supernumerary quota at all 23 IITs. It represents greater access for deserving female candidates to IIT admissions. With 50,455 total qualifiers in 2017 narrowing to 54,378 total qualifiers in 2025, and the percentage of women qualifiers consistently climbing, the future of gender diversity in India's premier technical institutions has never been so promising.' Approximately 1.90 lakh students appeared for JEE Advanced 2025, out of which around 43,000 were female candidates. The 20% female supernumerary quota will continue to be implemented across IITs. However, girls can secure admission under both the female-only pool and the gender-neutral pool. Those with higher ranks can even gain admission through the gender-neutral category. This system particularly benefits female candidates with relatively higher ranks. If girls make smart, strategic choices during JoSAA counselling, they stand a strong chance of getting into top IITs even with relatively higher All India Ranks. It is expected that this year, girls with an All India Rank of up to around 25,000 may have the opportunity to secure admission in IITs. Paper difficulty level Sharing his feedback on the paper, Mr. Vijay reported that JEE Advanced 2025 was of a moderate to difficult level of difficulty. Based on initial student feedback, Mathematics was found to be the most challenging section, with lengthy, difficult, and time-consuming questions requiring conceptual clarity and profound thinking. Physics was reported as moderate to challenging, with questions requiring understanding and accuracy, while Chemistry was comparatively easier in both sessions, allowing students to conserve time during the exam. Paper 2 proved to be tougher than Paper 1, particularly as eight number value-type questions were provided with no options. As compared to previous years, no paragraph-type questions were posed. Maths and Physics proved to be time-consuming and tough in Paper-2, whereas Chemistry proved to be a comparatively easier level of difficulty.

JEE Advanced Result 2025: What will be cut-off for JEE Advanced this year? Check previous year trends
JEE Advanced 2025: JEE Advanced 2025 result is likely to be declared on June 2. In addition to the result, the organising institute, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, will also release the JEE Advanced 2025 cut-off for admission to the IITs. In 2024, the JEE Advanced cut-off marks saw a significant increase across all categories compared to the previous year. For General and EWS candidates, the cut-off rose to 378 marks, up from 348 in 2023. Similarly, the cut-off for OBC-NCL candidates increased to 383 from 352, while for SC and ST categories, the cut-offs moved up to 364 and 366 respectively, from 331 and 323 in 2023. This upward trend reflects increasing competition and possibly a higher number of high-scoring candidates. This year, a total of 1,87,223 candidates, comprising 1,43,810 boys and 43,413 girls, appeared for JEE Advanced 2025. According to JEE Advanced analysis received from experts and candidates, mathematics was the most challenging this year, while chemistry and physics closely followed a similar pattern. The JEE Advanced cut-off marks last year under all the categories, except for the General-PWD category, had increased. Nitin Vijay, founder and CEO, Motion Education while speaking about JEE Advanced 2025 cut-off said: 'The expected cut-offs for JEE Advanced 2025 reveal a slightly going down curve across most categories when compared to the past year. Similar trends are visible in the EWS and OBC categories, with both expected cut-offs around 92–95, slightly less than 2024 levels. Notably, the SC and ST categories also show a steady but slightly declining figure with expected cut-offs being 49–52. This suggests a more competitive environment and potentially harder exam difficulty in 2025.' The JEE Advanced cut-offs depend on multiple factors. The number of total candidates appearing JEE Main exam, availability of seats at the participating institutions, previous year's trends and the difficulty level of the exam play an important role in deciding the cut-off. The academic desk at Vidyamandir Classes, however, has anticipated these cut-off marks: The copy of the candidate's JEE Advanced responses will be available on the website on May 22. The provisional answer key will be displayed on May 26. The feedback and comments on provisional answer keys will be recorded from May 26 to 27. As per IIT Kanpur's notification, online declaration of final answer key and results will be released on June 2.
