Contracts announced for National Highways' $679m SPaTS3 Framework

UK's National Highways has appointed suppliers to its £495m ($679m) Specialist Professional and Technical Service 3 (SPaTS3) Framework. This initiative is set to deliver a range of expert support services across 26 specialist workstreams, enhancing the UK's road transport infrastructure over a six-year period. National Highways' SPaTS3 Framework marks the latest phase in the organisation's commitment to maintaining and improving the UK's road network. The companies - AtkinsRéalis Jacobs Joint Venture, Ove Arup & Partners, Amey, Arcadis, Costain, and WSP in collaboration with Mott MacDonald - will provide technical consultancy, engineering advice, research, and innovation services related to road transport. The services under the framework will encompass geotechnical engineering, asset operation, maintenance, assurance, performance, design standards manuals and departures, environmental, highways structures, sustainability, and transport engineering services. The previous framework, SPaTS2, facilitated specialist advice and support through the Second Road Investment Strategy. Mott MacDonald and WSP have delivering key services since 2006, including contributions to National Highways' Net Zero Plan. Mott MacDonald is set to continue its collaboration with WSP under the new framework. Mott MacDonald UK & Europe managing director for transport and mobility solutions Graeme Smith added: 'Our longstanding relationship with National Highways has delivered multiple benefits to UK road users. Our appointment to SPaTS3 reflects the depth of expertise and technical leadership we bring and builds on the strength of our partnership with WSP. "We're excited to help shape the future of the UK's road infrastructure - delivering innovation, resilience and value for the travelling public.' Costain, along with its extended supply chain, will offer a variety of specialist technical engineering advice services, covering areas such as engineering, electric vehicle infrastructure, health, safety, and the environment. Costain Roads sector director Ann-Marie Morrison said: 'This appointment is testament to our strong relationship with National Highways and a recognition of Costain as a trusted advisor with deep in-house engineering capabilities. 'Together, we'll help create a more resilient road network for the UK that connects businesses and communities, drives economic prosperity, improves people's lives and leaves behind a positive environmental legacy.' Last month, National Highways announced a sustainable highway construction trial by Kier and TerrAffix on the A417 Missing Link scheme in Gloucestershire, England. "Contracts announced for National Highways' $679m SPaTS3 Framework" was originally created and published by World Construction Network, a GlobalData owned brand. Mott MacDonald's global revenue in 2024 soars to record $3.3bn

Mott MacDonald, a leading engineering, development and management consultancy, has reported another year of growth with its revenue for 2024 surging to hit £2.5 billion ($3.3 billion) across its global regions for the first time. Announcing the solid results, Mott MacDonald said the performance highlights the resilience of the business in the face of economic and political uncertainties in key geographies in Europe, North America, Asia, Australia and New Zealand, and the Middle East. Organic revenue growth of 7.6% was indicative of a strong performance. Its 2024 figure was up 6.1% over the previous year with a pre-tax profit of £123.3 million, it stated. Mott MacDonald experienced growth in its UK consultancy business, with key appointments to support national grid in the design of two high-voltage links to increase renewable energy connectivity and continuing its work with Holtec Britain and Hyundai Engineering & Construction to explore the delivery of small modular reactor technology. Alongside its UK contracting business there was also good growth and opportunity in the water sector around AMP8, it stated. In the region, Mott MacDonald was appointed as city infrastructure engineer in Saudi Arabia for the first phase of THE LINE, which forms part of NEOM, the region taking shape in the northwest of the Kingdom. In North America, Mott MacDonald built on successes in transit, tunnels and underground infrastructure and energy, where it was appointed to provide programme and project management services for the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority. Work is ongoing in storm flood relief as it continues to support the upgrade of Philadelphia's historic sewer system. In Australia and New Zealand, Mott MacDonald said it had strengthened its offering with the acquisition of specialist consultancies Merz and Neo Engineering respectively. It was also selected by Queensland Hydro to provide engineering services for the upper and lower dams at the proposed energy hydro storage system at Lake Borumba. James Harris, the executive chair of Mott MacDonald, said: "The last 12 months mark another year of good performance for the business, as our revenues reached £2.5 billion for the first time."
