Everton captain Coleman signs one-year contact extension

Everton skipper Seamus Coleman has signed a one-year contract extension, saying on Friday that the chance to lead the club into their new stadium was a key reason to continue. The 36-year-old Ireland international signed the deal just three days before his previous contract expired. He was forced off in the first half of Everton's final game at Goodison Park last month with a thigh injury but is expected to be fit in time for next season. "Thanks to the hard work of many people, we've been able to get into our magnificent new stadium and pave the way for a brighter future under ambitious new owners (Friedkin Group), which I want to be part of," Coleman said in a statement. Coleman joined the Merseyside club from Sligo Rovers in 2009 during David Moyes' first spell as manager. Moyes joined for a second spell in January, guiding Everton to a 13th-place finish. "In David Moyes, we have the perfect manager to lead us into a new era. He showed his abilities once again with the way he had us playing after returning last season. "As the man who brought me to Everton, I can't speak highly enough of him. He gets this football club, the standards required every day, and what it means to play for Everton." Coleman holds the club record for most Premier League appearances (369) and is joint 12th on Everton's all-time list with 428 matches in all competitions, just five behind Dixie Dean and Leon Osman. "This could be a period of real change at the Club and I want somebody who can help deliver the messages of what it means to be an Everton footballer. Seamus has always done that and I know he will continue to do so as we move into a new era," Moyes said. Everton begin their league campaign away at Leeds United on Aug. 18. Province launches ‘most generous' incentives for home heating, cooling upgrades

The Manitoba government hopes to encourage homeowners to upgrade their heating and cooling systems, lauding a new incentive program as the 'most generous offer' the province has ever introduced. The affordable home-energy program will help cover the cost of installing ground-source heat pumps for eligible homeowners. Switching from electrical heating to a geothermal system could save people who qualify for the program up to $1,000 annually and reduce their energy bills by up to 30 per cent, the province said Tuesday. RUTH BONNEVILLE / FREE PRESS FILES Mike Moyes said heat pumps are among the most efficient ways to heat and cool residential homes because they use less than half the energy required of a typical electric furnace. 'We know that this a big shift from traditional heating systems and that's why we're backing this program with some of the most generous financial supports Efficiency Manitoba has ever offered,' Environment and Climate Change Minister Mike Moyes told reporters as he announced the program. Moyes said the heat pumps are among the most efficient way to heat and cool residential homes because they use less than half the energy required of a typical electric furnace. The province has set a target of converting 5,000 homes to the geothermal pumps, which will mitigate Manitoba's peak energy demands and reduce emissions, he said. 'In Manitoba, we're committed to being a net zero province by 2050 and exploring renewable and sustainable energy sources is part of that goal,' Moyes said. Ground-source heat pumps circulate a heat transfer fluid through a network of underground pipes. The fluid absorbs heat from the earth and then pumps it into the home via a fan or radiator system. The process is reversed when cooling a home, extracting the heat from inside and redistributing it underground. The system is designed to work even in cooler temperatures. The amount people enrolled in the program will save on pump installation is determined by which incentive level they qualify for. The savings tiers are based on various factors, including household income, said Colleen Kuruluk, CEO of Efficiency Manitoba. 'When designing our offers, we recognize that every household is different and the needs of Manitobans are certainly unique. This ranges from the size of the home to the number of occupants to their income and ability to invest in energy efficiency,' she said. 'Participants don't need to pay anything up front. We pay the contractor directly, and the monthly cost is conveniently added to their energy bill.' Tuesdays A weekly look at politics close to home and around the world. Some homeowners could see up to 75 per cent of the installation cost covered by the incentive program. They will be expected to repay the remaining expense via monthly payments added to their heating bills, Kuruluk said. Despite the repayment cost, most homeowners will spend less overall on their monthly energy bills, allowing them to immediately realize the savings, she said. Efficiency Manitoba expects to spend about $10 million annually on the program, although the overall budget could be higher, depending on the popularity of the program, Kuruluk said. More options are available for multi-unit residential buildings. Additional information is available on the Efficiency Manitoba website. Manitoba launches heat pump savings initiative for eligible homeowners

The provincial government says it wants Manitobans to help the environment and also save money by upgrading their heat pumps. Environment and climate change minister Mike Moyes announced the new initiative, part of Manitoba's Affordable Energy Plan, on Tuesday. 'This is a big step toward a greener, more sustainable province that is building a low-carbon future by harnessing renewable energy, while making life more affordable for Manitoba families,' said Moyes. The province said there are multiple options for Manitobans who want to participate, including an option that involves no up-front costs, as well as retrofits for multi-unit residential buildings. Everton backed to complete 'perfect' Man Utd transfer for David Moyes

Everton could target Manchester United in the summer transfer window and one player would be a 'perfect match' for David Moyes if the Toffees were to get a deal over the line Everton should target a summer move for Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund according to their former player Pat Nevin. Hojlund has endured two difficult seasons since joining the Red Devils in a £72million deal from Atalanta. The 22-year-old scored 10 goals in 52 appearances last term as United struggled to find the net and 16 goals in 43 outings during his debut season in 2023/24. Ruben Amorim is looking to strengthen his forward line this summer having already added Matheus Cunha from Wolves, and the likes of Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen linked to transfers. ‌ Nevin, who played 150 games for the Toffees and scored 21 goals, reckons David Moyes would be able to prise the Denmark international away from Old Trafford on loan. And he believes the Everton boss will find a player well-suited to his style. ‌ Moyes will find himself short a striker as Dominic Calvert-Lewin's contract runs out at the end of June. And Nevin reckons the perfect solution is out there. Speaking to Spin Genie, the ex-Scotland international has urged Moyes to make a move. "There are some good names out there," said Nevin. "The loan market is something Everton have looked at in the past and I think it's something they should revisit again. It gives them all sorts of possibilities as they're not spending £50 million. "There are two or three players that they could think about bringing in from Manchester United but Rasmus Hojlund is the one that sticks out. If you look at his style of play, it's a perfect match with how David Moyes likes to play. While his numbers haven't been great this season, Moyes loves hard workers and that's something you can never complain about in regards to Hojlund. "It's not very often David Moyes has had a 20-30 goals-per-season striker. He's had strikers who run in behind and create space to bring others into play, so, if he's available, Hojlund could be a tempting option for Everton to sign on loan." ‌ Everton have already missed out on Liam Delap this summer, after the striker joined Chelsea. Moyes has admitted that the Toffees will need to find greater success to enjoy an easier time in the transfer market. 'Players, if they have the chance, want to play in the Champions League. I've just come out of a club ( West Ham United) where three out of four years we played in Europe and what a difference it makes when you're a club in Europe because the players are attracted, whatever European competition that is, is attractive to a lot of players and makes a big difference," he said. 'We're not at that at the moment so I don't know if I can compare us selling Wayne [Rooney] but we were always a club that didn't have a huge amount of money. We had to generate some money ourselves. 'But then, the club had £500million to spend and in that period and I don't think it was as good as when we spent carefully and were a little bit wiser."
