Mpumalanga car spinner spins his way to global stage
A talented car spinner from Masoyi recently showcased his skills on the global stage at the grand reopening of Red Bull Hangar-7 in Salzburg, Austria, gaining international recognition and strengthening his position as a cultural ambassador for South Africa. Samkeliso Thubane, known as SamSam, is a rare talent whose artistry and dedication to the sport of car spinning have earned him international acclaim. His participation in the prestigious event has not only brought pride to his community, but has also earned him national acclaim and highlighted his role in representing South African youth culture. He has won many spinning competitions around the country, including a particularly notable show called So You Think You Can Spin, where he came first, beating 300 other contestants to take the top spot. He has also won the Red Bull Shay'moto competition twice. Mpumalanga premier jets to China for a trade mission
The Mpumalanga premier, Mandla Ndlovu, is set to return to the People's Republic of China to visit the Shanghai Cooperation Organization for a trade investment mission from June 14 to 23. During this high-level outbound mission, Ndlovu will visit the city of Longnan, renowned for its traditional medicine, mining and olive oil production. He will also tour the Tianshui Inland Port, a model area for modern agricultural development. His visit is geared towards the operationalisation of the Mpumalanga International Fresh Produce Market (MIFPM), which is hailed as the first large-scale market infrastructure in the province and is expected to boost international market access. On January 14, Ndlovu undertook the first leg of the mission to China to establish co-operation with major players in the food and logistics industries for the MIFPM, which is not yet operational. That trip focused on Tianshui, Longnan and Xiamen, in Gansu and Fujian provinces respectively, to sign bilateral agreements with reputable trade institutions such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. While Ndlovu is out of the country, the Mpumalanga MEC for co-operative governance, human settlements and traditional affairs, Speed Mashilo, has been sworn in as the acting premier. Four people killed in R38 road crash; bakkie occupants missing
Authorities said a sedan crashed with a bakkie, and the sedan was swung across the road where it further collided with a truck. Image: Supplied Four people lost their lives on Tuesday evening when a light delivery vehicle and a sedan collided head-on, on the R38 Road between Kaapmuide and Louws Creek in Mpumalanga. The sedan, after colliding with the bakkie, was swung across the road and subsequently collided with a truck. The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison said four victims died at the scene and they include the driver of the sedan, and three passengers. 'The occupants of the bakkie were reportedly not found at the scene,' said Moeti Mmusi, spokesperson for the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison. 'The cause of the crash is not clear at the moment but reckless and negligent driving cannot be ruled out at this stage. The investigation into the crash is already underway.' Image: Supplied Meanwhile, Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Jackie Macie has called on motorists to drive with caution, especially in the dark, when visibility is reduced. "While the government at all levels is putting programmes in place to make roads safer, it is the responsibility of every driver to obey the rules and use the road cautiously. Most of the crashes can be avoided if those who drive are highly alert at all times," Macie said. The MEC is sending condolences to the bereaved families.
