SUPERMAN Star Edi Gathegi Confirms Multi-Project DC Deal and Talks About Post-Credits Scene — GeekTyrant

James Gunn's Superman introduced a lineup of interesting and cool new DC heroes, but one character managed to steal the spotlight… Mr. Terrific, played by Edi Gathegi. Now, Gathegi has confirmed that his time in the DCU isn't ending anytime soon. In an interview with Variety, the actor revealed that he signed a multi-project deal when joining the film. 'I know that I have a multi-project deal, but the specifics of that are unknown to me. What James is driving home is the idea that they're never going to rush into production with scripts that aren't ready, so even whatever they do have planned for my characters is irrelevant until the draft comes in and it's shootable. 'So I don't count my chickens before they hatch. I want to be involved in this universe in a major way, and whether or not that comes to fruition is just a matter of time and faith and other people's hard work.' Mr. Terrific enters the story as part of the Justice Gang alongside Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion) and Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), but by the end, he becomes a crucial player. Not only does he help Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) free Superman (David Corenswet) from Lex Luthor's grip, but his tech, 'T-Spheres,' is essential in preventing Metropolis from being consumed by a black hole. He also had one of the best action scenes in the film! And then there's that post-credits stinger. According to Gathegi, the tag was originally part of the main film before being moved to the end. He expained: 'That was originally in the movie. I wasn't there for the decision making, but to me, it's exciting because that's a promise. I don't know if it's a promise that DC is intending to make, but to have that moment at the very end of the movie, for me personally, is the full circle moment of me being unceremoniously killed before the big battle in X-Men: First Class to be kind of the last man standing.' He also revealed how he found out about the change: 'The day of the premiere, I got a text message from James saying, 'Heads up, just so you know, some things are different, and that scene is now the end.'' There's no official word yet on where Gathegi's Mr. Terrific will appear next, but reports suggest a solo series is being considered. Even if that doesn't happen, it seems likely the character will return in the Superman sequel, or perhaps even play a bigger role in the larger DCU rollout. Would you want to see a full-on Mr. Terrific series, or should he remain a supporting player in the DCU?

What awesome song is playing during Mr. Terrific fight scene in Superman?

Superman had quite the weekend, raking in $217 million worldwide and earning a 93% rating from the audience on Rotten Tomatoes. It's the first DC Universe entry for James Gunn and his new Man of Steel, David Corenswet, and things are off to a hot start for the former Guardians of the Galaxy director. WARNING: Some potentially light spoilers for Superman follow. Outside of the utterly charming Corenswet, there was one performance -- not including the very (not) good boy, Krypto -- that has been attracting a lot of the recent discussion. Edi Gathegi's turn as Mr. Terrific has been universally praised, and the Justice Gang member had one of the best set pieces in the movie. As Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) and Mr. Terrific attempted to locate Superman, they faced some of Lex Luthor's (Nicholas Hoult) Raptor henchmen. MORE SUPERMAN: 2 cameos had fans thrilled In true Gunn fashion, the needle drop for the moment was absolute perfection. The song "5 Years Time" by Noah and the Whale came out on the band's 2008 Peaceful, The World Lays Me Down album. The poppy, upbeat song with lyrics that say "and it was fun, fun, fun when we were laughing" counterbalanced with Mr. Terrific blowing things up is a wonderful combination. Superman is in theaters now.

Review – Mr. Terrific: Year One #1

Mr. Terrific: Year One #1 cover, via DC Comics. Ray: Mr. Terrific has been at the core of much of what's going on in the DCU, as the self-proclaimed third-smartest man in the world has been key to investigating the Omega energy spread around the world by Darkseid's death and the anomalies it's causing. But even he's running into some dead ends with the mystery, and that causes him to reflect back on the early days of his superhero career – which was the last time he saw something like this. We know the broad strokes of his early days, when he lost his wife and unborn child, but we haven't seen much of him from that period – and it's not a pretty picture. When we meet him, he's spent years in a stupor, sold his company to the shady tech magnate Athena Prescott, and mainly only talks to his AI. The only person still checking in on him is his best friend Dre – and Dre also has some serious concerns about what Prescott is doing to the city. Beyond the veil. Via DC Comics. Using Holt and Paula's technology, Prescott has built a powerful engine that promises to bring clean energy to Gateway City – but it's causing odd health side effects to everyone around it. Prescott is shutting down any debate and the city is all too willing to roll over for her, so it falls to Dre and his allies to investigate – by breaking into the tower. This leads to a tense escape segment as the assassin Comorant is dispatched to track them down – followed by a tense cliffhanger that leaves Holt with no choice to get back into the field and rediscover the grit and genius that makes him a hero. This first issue has a lot of strong moments, even if the ending does rely on a trope that's all too common in superhero comics. But I'm particularly interested in it because it looks to be one of the most honest portrayals of depression and grief in a superhero comic. Very impressive start by the creative team.
