Mthembu's portrayal of the legendary Mthethwa king, Dingiswayo, an esteemed son of King Jobe, came to an end on the latest episode of the award winnning Mzansi Magic drama series. His final episode moved audiences, with him receiving praise from afar. The talented actor is known to deliver his utmost best for all his roles and for "Shaka iLembe," he has set the bar once again. 'Same mistakes as last season': Khanye slams Kaizer Chiefs
Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye feel the team has not improved following their pre-season matches. Having played five matches in the Netherlands, Amakhosi locked horns with Asante Kotoko at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday. Despite a good performance, the Soweto giants went down 3-2 on penalties. When analysing the match, Khanye felt Kaizer Chiefs were still making the same mistakes from last season. 'If Nabi was a good coach, there are certain players he was supposed to release. He was supposed to sign quality players, irrespective if whether they are young or experienced. You can't have a defender who is technically gifted than your forward players, I'm talking about do you allow him to take a penalty? 'Going into the game, Kaizer Chiefs' back four played well, but let's be honest, they were not tested.' Khanye felt the Amakhosi midfield looked unstable. Although Chiefs dominated Asante Kotoko in the middle, the former winger said Nasreddine Nabi's team will get exposed this coming season when they get tested. 'I don't think Chiefs have a good player there. I think their scouters got it wrong there. Also number six position, they are playing with Mthethwa. Cele for me…you need to have a strong character. I don't think he is good enough for me. I don't think (Sibongiseni) Mthethwa and Cele have a good combination. Mthethwa for me, lacks awareness, is not good on the ball, and technically, he is poor. 'He is a good player when he's free, but can't play in tight spaces. He is not like (Sipho) Mbule, so they needed a number six with a strong character. Foot and mouth threatens KZN dairy farmers
The KZN dairy industry is on high alert following the widespread outbreak of foot and mouth disease (FMD) in the province. The KZN Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) has pledged to work closely with dairy farmers to reduce the impact after five districts – King Cetshwayo, uMkhanyakude, Zululand, uMzinyathi and Amajuba – were identified as hotspots. The disease already threatens the livelihoods of beef farmers, with dairy farmers concerned as the department investigates recent cases in dairy herds, including vaccinated herds in uMzinyathi and uThukela. ALSO READ: Spike in hand, foot and mouth disease cases During a visit to Orange Grove Dairy in Dundee, Agriculture MEC Thembeni kaMadlopha-Mthethwa said KZN is home to 16 major dairy factories, including Clover Industries Limited. This makes the province one of the country's leading milk producers, accounting for about 30 per cent of all raw milk produced. 'The department is investigating FMD cases in three dairy farms in uThukela and uMzinyathi districts. Clinical signs of FMD have been observed on these farms, prompting industry stakeholders to plan a way forward,' said Mthethwa. In 2021, the FMD outbreak affected communal and commercial beef farmers. While dairy farms have been unaffected, veterinary services, however, have begun investigations following signs of the disease. Since the start of vaccinations in 2022, over 700 000 cattle in the province have been vaccinated, including 24 000 in uMzinyathi District. 'We are promoting partnerships with all stakeholders to tackle the disease. As part of our containment measures, we have issued veterinary movement permits. 'We are pleased to report a high level of compliance among farmers, which has minimised the impact of the disease,' said Mthethwa. Don't have the ZO app? 'We are Mkhwanazi and Mkhwanazi is us': EFF's Eugene Mthethwa
EFF MP Eugene Mthethwa has shown support for KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi after damning allegations he made against senior police officials and the minister of police in a recent briefing, accusing them of interfering in cases police are investigating. Mkhwanazi's briefing sparked an intense debate, with some criticising his manner of approach in addressing the issue while others commended his bravery. During a police portfolio committee meeting in parliament on Wednesday, Mthethwa said Mkhwanazi's briefing was a 'deep outcry and a desperate measure' to be heard. 'He must've gone through proper protocols to highlight his concerns but nobody acted upon that,' Mthethwa said. 'Whatever is said about Mkhwanazi on other issues doesn't matter; what matters is what he has brought to our attention.' Hundreds of South Africans, civil society groups and political parties such as the MK Party have taken to the streets to show their support for Mkhwanazi and demand action. 'We are general Mkhwanazi and general Mkhwanazi is us. This is clearly displayed by the #handsoffMkhwanazi campaign in South Africa. This is because they identify themselves with what Mkhwanazi has done to draw attention [to the matter]. 'The mere fact that people are on the streets before anything happens is a ticking time bomb. Should anything happen to Mkhwanazi, I second the notion that this country will see fire.' On Sunday President Cyril Ramaphosa placed police minister Senzo Mchunu on special leave while a commission of inquiry investigates Mkhwanazi's allegations. Mthethwa criticised Ramaphosa's decision, describing it as 'reckless, hurriedly done and a delay tactic'. 'South Africans are shaken to the core and are wondering if they still have a policing system that can be trusted,' Mthethwa said. 'They are baseless as they undermine the constitutional prescripts. The pronouncements are showing so much uncaring of our government that adds a burden to taxpayers who are overly burdened by the bloated government of national unity cabinet, salary of a minister who's on special leave while the acting minister will also draw a salary for his acting role.' MPs agreed an ad hoc committee to probe Mkhwanazi's allegations should be formed instead of a commission of inquiry. They also want Mkhwanazi to appear before parliament. 'It also allows the very committees to participate in the ad hoc committee, unlike the commission of inquiry that suspends the work of the committee and the confidence that the people of South Africa must have on us. The president is accountable to us.'

Ghana solar success shared in pan-African economic initiative
A visit to a solar energy project on a Ghanaian island on Tuesday, June 17, marked the end of the first module of economic inclusivity in an initiative organised by the governments of three African states. According to the Office of the Premier's spokesperson, George Mthethwa, 45 participants representing government leaders, public servants and academics from South Africa, Kenya and Ghana attended the first module, with a focus on fostering regional trade, innovation in digital technology, good governance and sustainable energy. 'The participants toured a solar power facility installed for the small community of the island. 156 solar panels were installed with the support of World Bank in 2017 to supply power to households,' Mthethwa said. He said the Ghanaian government emphasised that this has drastically improved the quality of life of the island community, whose survival is dependant on fishing. The project has prompted the construction of new health and education facilities and is attracting professionals to the island to provide essential services. The visit to the solar energy facility is said to be key to Mpumalanga's exploration of the energy mix, to meet the high demand for power generation.
