Mudhalvar Padaippagam to come up in Tiruchi

Tiruchi Corporation has finalised the Detailed Project Report (DPR) to construct a Mudhalvar Padaippagam, a co-working and learning space, at Woraiyur in the city. The facility is designed to function as a co-working space for entrepreneurs and a learning space for students with modern infrastructure. A sum of ₹3.05 crore under the Corporation's Education Fund would be utilised for the project. The civic body had identified a vacant land on Hospital Road in Ward 9 of Zone V. The proposed three-storey facility will have a learning space on the ground floor and co-working spaces on the first floor. The Corporation has finalised the DPR and submitted the report to the State government seeking approval to execute the project. 'Once the State government accords the administrative and technical sanctions, tenders would be floated to take up the construction,' said a senior Corporation official. The centre is designed to accommodate around 50 persons at a time to enable students preparing for national and State-level competitive examinations such as the public service commission, engineering, banking, and so on to utilise the study material available there. An entire floor would be dedicated to the learning space, featuring a common study hall equipped with computers and internet facilities to enhance the studying experience. Similarly, a floor would be developed as a co-working space for accommodating over 30 persons at any given time to support entrepreneurs and start-ups, who are facing challenges due to a dearth of space. The co-working space will feature three conference rooms and can be booked online on an hourly basis. The centre will have a separate floor dedicated to the cafeteria. Facilities, including a sanitation complex, a parking lot, an admin room, surveillance cameras, and a security room, are planned. The centre would remain open from morning to night on all days.

GCC's low-cost co-working, learning hub finds takers among students, techies

Chennai: In Kolathur, a community learning hub is evolving into Chennai's most sought-after co-working and co-learning space. Mudhalvar Padaippagam, a government-run facility, charges just 5 for a 3.5-hour study slot—prompting students to book seats months in advance. Comprising desks with charging points, curated reference materials, as well as strict rules regarding decorum, the centre now sees hundreds of aspirants spend up to 10 hours a day here, preparing for competitive exams. For students unable to access pricy libraries or coaching centres, the facility provides a quiet, structured environment at a minimal cost. SK Akshaya, a CA aspirant who travels daily from Madhavaram, says the shift from her old library made all the difference. "Here, we collaborate and even discuss doubts over lunch. If something's missing, the centre in-charge procures it for us. This is catering to the needs of students—unlike public libraries," she said. From NEET PG aspirants to UPSC candidates, users say the centre's format encourages self-study and shared learning. "I was looking for a good library and found this instead," said K Kathirvel. "It's focused, affordable, and competitive. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Perdagangkan CFD Emas dengan Broker Tepercaya IC Markets Mendaftar Undo I've already booked slots for August and September." Freelancers, startup founders, and work-from-home professionals—often priced out of private workspaces—have found a haven here. With Wi-Fi, steady power, and a shared communal space, they book monthly slots at a fraction of commercial rates. "We were spending 5,000 a day at co-working spaces just for a conference room," said Surya S, co-founder of a startup. "Now we pay 2,500 a month here." Helen Anitha, Director of the centre, said the goal was never revenue. "One student got recruited into the Intelligence Bureau after preparing here," she noted. GCC has cleared a resolution to set up eight more such centres across the city. Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Doctor's Day 2025 , messages and quotes!
