Kids tortured for mango 'theft'

Two children were tortured by a landlord and his accomplices after they were caught stealing mangoes from his orchard. The children were taken to a farmhouse, where they were allegedly subjected to physical abuse and later stripped before being sent back home. A video of the naked children was shared on social media, prompting District Police Officer Syed Ali to take immediate action. The police registered a case and arrested one suspect, with raids under way to capture the remaining fugitives. According to the sources, the incident was reported from Kot Chutta police area, where the two children allegedly went to steal mangoes from the orchard of Nazar alias Nadir Luddi. They were caught by Muhammad Asif and Amir, who took them to Nazar's farmhouse, and allegedly tortured and later stripped them. A video of the incident was recorded, which was then shared on social media. When the video went viral, the district police officer instructed the Kot Chutta police to take prompt action. The police registered a case against three accused, Nazar, Muhammad Asif, and Muhammad Amir, under PPC sections 377B, 365, 355, 342 and 292. One of the accused, Muhammad Amir, was arrested, and efforts are under way to arrest the remaining suspects.

In the other quarter-final clashes, Hong Kong One blanked Bahrain 3-0, Malaysia edged Hong Kong Two 3-2, and India cruised past Qatar with a 3-0 win. If both Pakistan and India win their respective semi-finals, the stage will be set for a high-stakes final between the arch-rivals.

New Delhi, June 25 (UNI) Honeymoon with the United States notwithstanding, Pakistan today described the US and Israeli attacks against Iran's nuclear facilities as violations of international law and UN Charter and asserted that Wahington and Tel Aviv had escalated tensions even as Tehran had consistently sought negotiations. Pakistan Defence Minister Muhammad Asif in a scathing attack on ''Western powers'' for 'double standards' towards Iran, accused the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) of hypocrisy and selective approach in dealing with Tehran. Mr Asif told Iranian news agency MEHR in an interview 'Unlike Iran, the Westerners have destroyed the opportunity for diplomacy and are the cause of the beginning of the aggressions of the Zionist regime and the United States.' He said Iran had consistently sought negotiations but US and Israel had escalated tensions. 'The Iranians have never left the negotiating table… It is ridiculous that the West always wants Iran to return to the negotiating table,'' he said. The minister also denounced the IAEA for biased stance, particularly regarding Israel's nuclear program. 'A regime that is not even a member of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). can do anything and has the authorization to carry out any aggression,' he said in the interview. UNI RB GNK 1927

On the third day of the competition, Asif overcame a tough challenge from Malaysia's Kim Ko Leong during the quarter-finals, registering a hard-fought 5-3 victory to book his place in the last four. Earlier in the pre-quarterfinals, Asif comfortably defeated Cambodia's Nyang Tola 5-1, conceding just one frame en route to the quarterfinals and ensuring at least a bronze medal finish. However, it was disappointment for the other two Pakistani cueists. Defending champion Awais Munir and former Asian champion Mohammad Sajjad were both knocked out in the pre-quarterfinals. Munir, who was hoping to retain his title, was eliminated by Hong Kong's Ming Wa Man in a closely contested 5-3 encounter. Meanwhile, Sajjad was handed a straight 5-0 defeat by Singapore's Sng Eain Yow in a one-sided affair. Asif will now face Malaysia's Thor Chuan Leong in the semi-final on Wednesday (today).

Asif to compete in CW Championships

The three-time World Champion Muhammad Asif has qualified to compete in the Commonwealth Snooker & Billiard Sports Championship 2025. The Pakistan Billiards & Snooker Association (PBSA) stated in a press release that the ace cueist qualified for participation in the Commonwealth Snooker & Billiard Sports Championship 2025 in Mauritius by virtue of winning the recent IBSF World Men Snooker Championship 2024, in Doha, Qatar. The World Confederation of Billiards Sports is hosting the Commonwealth Snooker & Billiard Sports Championship 2025 from July 2 to July 6. "We have submitted the visa documents of Muhammad Asif in the Mauritius Embassy in Islamabad and are waiting for obtaining the visa," the PBSA Honorary Secretary Naveed Kapadia told the media. "We believe in Muhammad Asif's ability to achieve great things on the World Snooker arena, and we are confident that he will bring home a medal for our beloved country. "We wish the best of luck to our IBSF World Champion Muhammad Asif and we are all incredibly proud of him, and we are behind him in every way. May his journey to victory be filled with joy, success, and unwavering spirit. Go get that medal." Asif became the second person to win the IBSF World Championship thrice. He took his first title in 2012, then in 2019 and in 2024 he won it for the third time. Apart form individual titles, Asif has also won the IBSF Team Snooker Championships twice for Pakistan. In 2013, he partnered with Muhammad Sajjad to take the title for the first time and then he paired with Babar Masih to win it in 2017, where they defeated team 1 from Pakistan which had his former snooker partner Sajjad and Muhammad Asjad as their opponents in the final. Asif also ventured into the professional snooker as he competed at the British Open qualifying round in 2023.
