TikToker fined RM1,800 for cross-dressing in livestream

MELAKA: A male TikTok personality known online as Melinda B was fined RM1,800 by the Syariah Lower Court here after pleading guilty to charges of cross-dressing and behaving in a manner resembling a woman during a livestream in the early hours of Monday. The 25-year-old, whose real name is Muhammad Hakim Noraji, admitted to two offences under Section 72 of the Syariah Criminal Offences (Melaka) Enactment 1991, which prohibits men from imitating the appearance or mannerisms of women in public without valid reason. The offences were committed between midnight and 3am on June 10 at two locations — the A Famosa building and in front of the Dunia Melayu Dunia Islam (DMDI) building along Jalan Kota, Sinar Harian reported. Judge Amirrudin Abdul Latip fined Muhammad Hakim RM850 for the first offence and RM950 for the second, with one month's imprisonment in default. The fines were paid. The prosecution was led by Syariah prosecutor Ahmad Faizul Ashar. The accused was unrepresented. According to the Melaka Islamic Religious Department (Jaim), Muhammad Hakim was arrested while livestreaming on TikTok dressed in women's clothing — including a purple blouse, women's footwear, earrings, and a hair bun wig. Jaim director Datuk Md Azhan Samat said officers from the department's enforcement division moved in around 1.30am after receiving a public complaint. "He was still wearing the same outfit when our officers apprehended him," he said. The arrest and subsequent court proceedings have attracted wide attention online, as the influencer is known for content in which he dresses and acts like a woman. Jaim said that the individual was not employed in any official entertainment capacity.
