With 475 points, Kuching reigns supreme at Sarawak inter-division school championship

SIBU (July 18): Kuching accumulated 43 gold, 26 silver, and 21 bronze medals to emerge champions for the 52nd Sarawak School Sports Council (MSSS) athletics championship.
The team amassed 475 points to stamp its supremacy in the championship, which ended at Stadium Tun Zaidi here yesterday afternoon.
Miri received 327 points to come in second with 20 gold, 31 silver, and 24 bronze medals.
In third place was Bintulu with 333 points – 22 gold, 20 silver, and 19 bronze medals, followed by Sibu with 223 points – eight gold, 16 silver, and 16 bronze medals.
Sarikei was fifth with 196 points (12 gold, 14 silver, 15 bronze) followed by Kapit with 137 points (6 gold, 10 silver, 8 bronze), Mukah with 118 points (6 gold, 8 silver, 11 bronze), and Betong with 109 points (6 gold, 3 silver, 10 bronze).
Other participating teams were Limbang (6 gold, 5 silver, 7 bronze), Sri Aman (5 gold, 4 silver, 5 bronze), Samarahan (2 gold, 4 silver, 5 bronze), Serian (6 gold, 2 bronze), and SMK Tabuan Jaya (1 bronze).
Kuching's Muhammad Quarliff Tiquse and Serian's Natalia Abby Uding Simon were the best performers in the U-18 boys and girls categories.
The other best boys were U-15: Clarence Didak Tiquse, U-14: Roland Melin, U-12: Marx Pierre Moses Beriak, and U-11: Yohanes Awil Jayan Dackie.
The other best girls were U-15: Siti Nur Aalia Mohamad Hamka, U-14: Ellysia Michael, U-12: Angelie Valerie Raymond, and U-11: Audrey Kelinah Rody.
In his closing remarks, State Education director Omar Mahli said the success of the young athletes includes all aspects of personal development.
He said the holistic development of students' talents will produce well-educated individuals who are able to compete on a global stage.
