Iraqi lawmaker: 100+ laws on shelf in Parliament
Shafaq News – Baghdad Iraq's Parliament has stalled more than 100 draft laws, a member of the Parliamentary Legal Committee revealed on Wednesday. Abdul Karim Abtan told Shafaq News that Parliament remains effectively paralyzed and unable to meet, predicting these bills — including the Federal Supreme Court Law, Oil and Gas legislation, the Mandatory Military Service bill, and the Civil Service framework — will likely be deferred to the next term if the stalemate continues. Earlier, Mukhtar al-Moussawi of the Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee blamed divisions within Iraq's ruling State Administration Coalition for blocking other key measures, including the Federal Budget Law and the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) Law.

MP: Political divisions freeze Iraqi Parliament
Shafaq News – Baghdad Rifts among Iraq's ruling coalition have paralyzed parliamentary activity and derailed votes on major legislation, a lawmaker revealed on Tuesday. Mukhtar al-Moussawi, a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, told Shafaq News Agency that ongoing disputes between the blocs forming the government have reduced Parliament to little more than attendance. 'There's no consensus—sessions may be held, but without real outcomes,' he remarked. The deadlock has already obstructed key legislation, including the Federal Budget Law and the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) Law, he added, warning that continued disagreement could prevent sessions from taking place altogether. Al-Moussawi also criticized the government's role in deepening the impasse, describing an atmosphere where election campaigning has crossed legal boundaries. 'Political money is flooding the scene while Parliament remains idle—and ultimately, it's the Iraqi people who pay the price,' he added. With fewer than a week remaining before the end of Iraq's parliamentary recess, the stalemate has drawn growing concern. Several lawmakers have confirmed behind-the-scenes pressure from party leaders to delay sessions and block sensitive legislation, allegedly aiming to shield the government and some factions from controversy ahead of the November 11 elections.

Iraqi Parliament dismisses US lawmakers' claims of Iranian influence
Shafaq News/ The Iraqi Parliament's Foreign Relations Committee on Thursday rejected recent accusations by members of the US Congress alleging Iranian influence over Iraq's political and security institutions. Two Republican lawmakers had called for a 'comprehensive reassessment' of US–Iraq relations and urged the suspension of all American assistance to the Iraqi government until what they described as 'serious steps' are taken to reduce Iranian involvement. Committee member MP Mukhtar al-Moussawi told Shafaq News that such calls are not new and do not reflect the official position of the US administration. 'These are media-driven appeals that lack any real substance,' he said. 'There is no Iranian hegemony over Iraq,' al-Moussawi stressed. 'Iraq's decisions and its relationship with Iran are similar to its relations with other countries in the region and around the world.' He asserted that the US seeks strong relations with Iraq due to its strategic importance, and there is no indication of any intention to impose sanctions. 'Ties between Baghdad and Washington are progressing across multiple levels and will not be affected by suspicious appeals from certain hardline figures in the US Congress.'
