CM transfers Rs271cr to 62L welfare scheme beneficiaries

Patna: CM Nitish Kumar on Friday transferred Rs 271 crore via direct benefit transfer (DBT) to the bank accounts of over 62 lakh beneficiaries under various social security pension schemes and the Chief Minister Kanya Utthan Yojana.
At the event, social welfare department secretary Bandana Preyashi welcomed the CMwith a green plant. Officials informed Kumar that the number of beneficiaries under the social security pension schemes has risen to 1,09,69,255 in the financial year 2024-25, a sharp increase from 12,25,106 in 2005-06.
Of the total amount disbursed on Friday, Rs 254 crore was transferred to 61,29,548 beneficiaries under five major social security schemes, while Rs 16 crore was disbursed to 85,556 beneficiaries under the Mukhyamantri Kanya Utthan Yojana.
The CM shared a detailed breakdown, saying that Rs 38 crore was transferred to 9,64,220 people under the Bihar Disability Pension Scheme and Rs 34 crore to 8,63,376 beneficiaries of the Laxmibai Social Security Pension Scheme. Under the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme, the Centre contributed Rs 89 crore for 35,59,667 beneficiaries while the state govt added Rs 61 crore.
Regarding the Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme, Kumar said the Centre transferred Rs 3.31 crore to 1,10,583 beneficiaries and the state contributed Rs 1.10 crore.

Under the Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme, Rs 18 crore was disbursed by the Centre to 6.32 lakh widows while the state added Rs 6.33 crore.
"The social welfare department is effectively delivering benefits of these schemes to the people. The department must also raise awareness to ensure all eligible individuals can benefit," the CM said.
Directors Ranjita (social security directorate) and Amit Kumar Pandey (ICDS) made a presentation detailing the department's achievements.
They said while over Rs 98 crore was spent on pension schemes in 2005-06, the budget has increased dramatically to Rs 5,241 crore in 2024-25.
Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary, social welfare minister Madan Sahni, principal secretary to the CM Deepak Kumar, chief secretary Amrit Lal Meena and others were present at the event. District magistrates from across the state joined the programme via videoconferencing.
