Lucknow: Providing major relief to flower cultivators, the Yogi govt on Saturday decided to remove all types of flowers from the category of specified agricultural products and place them in the non-specified category, while waiving mandi fees for selling flowers outside mandi premises.
During the 171st meeting of the Board of Directors of the UP state agricultural produce market council, chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday, it was decided that farmers growing flowers will no longer have to pay any fee for trading outside market premises, while only a user fee will be charged within the market.
The CM noted that flowers are highly perishable commodities. In case of any delay in reaching the mandis, their quality deteriorates, causing major losses to farmers.
"It has therefore been decided that no mandi fee shall be charged for selling flowers outside the mandi premises. This decision is expected to provide crucial support, particularly to small, marginal, and seasonal flower farmers," he said.
The chief minister emphasised that the market council is not just an institutional body but a powerful means for upholding the self-respect, rights, and economic empowerment of farmers.

He also called for the establishment of 'Shabari Canteens' at all principal agricultural market sites of the market council to provide affordable, healthy, and tasty meals with a spirit of service. Land for these canteens should be provided free of charge by the Market Council, and their operation should be entrusted to non-governmental or voluntary organisations.
He further instructed that new markets be set up in the state as needed, with possibilities explored through the public private partnership (PPP) model. He also directed the speedy completion of the Agri Mall in Vikalp Khand, Gomtinagar, Lucknow.
It was reported during the meeting that the mandi parishad recorded a revenue of Rs 1,994.55 crore in 2024–25, an increase of 16.2% over 2023–24. The CM was also informed that projects worth Rs 195.30 crore have been approved for construction, upgradation, and renovation in mandis and sub-mandis during 2024–25.
Additionally, new roads worth Rs 242.27 crore have been approved. The process of establishing 10 new mandis and sub-mandis is currently underway.
It was also decided that students of the agriculture faculty at Prof Rajendra Singh (Raju Bhaiya) University in Prayagraj will now benefit from the 'Mukhyamantri Krishak Scholarship Scheme.'
UP farmers to become brand ambassadors of natural farming
Lucknow: The state govt has launched a unique initiative to turn farmers into brand ambassadors of sustainable agriculture.
As part of this plan, 200 natural farming practitioners have been selected to serve as role models and spread awareness about the benefits of eco-friendly farming practices.
Under this initiative, selected farmers will undergo specialised training through the 'Training of Trainers' (ToT) model. The first batch of master trainers will be prepared to conduct sessions at the divisional and district levels. The initiative is being implemented under the National Mission for Natural Farming with support from Local Natural Farming Institutions, which will assist in training and capacity building.
