Gurvinder Singh Wasan, CFA, Senior Fund Manager, Baroda BNP Paribas Mutual Fund
Let's start with your personal story I am a Mumbai boy, born and brought up in a joint family of businessmen. I have completed a Master's in Commerce and am a Chartered Accountant by qualification. In addition, I am a CFA charter holder from the CFA Institute, USA. How did you land this job? I have been working in the fixed income industry for about 21 years now. All my previous roles have been great learning curves, where I had the opportunity to learn from experienced colleagues, talented subordinates, and enthusiastic peers. This is a small industry where most professionals in the investment segment know each other. I would say I was at the right place at the right time, and was fortunate to land my current role as Senior Fund Manager with Baroda BNP Paribas Mutual Fund . Best MF to invest Looking for the best mutual funds to invest? Here are our recommendations. View Details » Prior to this, I was associated as a Senior Fund Manager and Credit Analyst with JM Financial Mutual Fund. Before that, I was part of Principal Mutual Fund, where I had my longest stint. I have also worked as a structured finance analyst at CRISIL and ICICI Bank . Which funds are you currently managing? I have been entrusted with a diverse mix of funds that stimulate my interest and enhance my professional profile. On the duration side, we manage Gilt and Dynamic Bond Funds. On the shorter end of the curve, there are Ultra Short Term and Low Duration Funds. In the mid-tenor segment, we have Short Term and Corporate Bond Funds. We also manage a Credit Risk Fund with a credit play. Live Events On the hybrid front, I manage Balanced Advantage, Conservative Hybrid, Aggressive Hybrid, Equity Savings, and Retirement Funds. Additionally, I handle Fund of Funds schemes such as the Multi Asset Fund of Fund, as well as passive offerings like the Nifty SDL and Gold ETFs. What is your investment philosophy, and how would you describe your investment strategy? My investment philosophy combines a top-down macro approach with a core-tactical strategy. We closely track macroeconomic indicators and, based on our assessment, determine a suitable duration profile for each mutual fund scheme. Within this framework, we construct a core portfolio and aim to generate alpha through tactical allocations, which we actively manage to take advantage of market opportunities. Overall, our mandate is to prioritize safety and liquidity while consistently seeking alpha generation. What gives you the kick while managing other people's money? The real kick lies in being entrusted with the responsibility of managing someone's hard-earned savings. That trust itself is a powerful driving force.

DDA reduces amalgamation charges for commercial properties, to boost real estate in the capital
The Delhi Development Authority has decided to reduce the amalgamation charges for commercial properties from the present 10% of the circle rate to just 1%, a decision which will unlock the real estate potential of Delhi. Additionally, the authority has reduced the multiplication factor for auction of commercial properties from the present rate of twice the circle rate to 1.5 times the circle rate. This will also catalyse greater investment and participation of real estate developers in commercial development in the city. The decision will incentivize real estate developers to develop commercial areas to scale and promote investment and employment in the city. This was one of the key reasons for commercial developments migrating to neighbouring cities in the NCR like Noida and Gurugram, where the admissible amalgamation charges were far lower compared to Delhi. These decisions followed the recommendations of a high-level joint government- industry task force constituted by LG VK Saxena. The high amalgamation charges for commercial properties in Delhi were prohibitive and discouraged developers from consolidating plots and undertaking large scale projects. This, consequently led to under-utilization of prime commercial areas, delayed infrastructure development and missed opportunities for urban mobility and redevelopment. Similarly, the task force had observed that Delhi's circle rates are disproportionately high as compared to market rates in neighbouring cities and a high multiplication factor is restricting the opportunities available for investors, resulting in greater investments in other cities of NCR. This is the first time that DDA has taken on board industry views for deregulation and simplification of its policies. The authority also approved change of land use in various sectors of Narela to help in creating an education hub, development of Multi Sports Integrated Stadium and Sports Complex and overall development of the sub-city. In addition to this, the authority also approved discount on bulk purchase of unsold flats in Narela by government departments and Universities.

Unsurprisingly, the colourful frock has racked up a flurry of five-star reviews and is almost completely sold out online. So if you're looking to get your hands on it, you may need to leg it to your nearest store. One delighted fashionista gushed: "So easy to wear and looks great with a tan to show off. Doesn't crease either! Most read in Fabulous "Got lots of great comments in it.. looks more expensive than it actually is." A second wrote: "Bought for holiday and it really is perfect. I'm 5'3 and a size 10 - Tesco is killing it with their summer co-ords, my haul was amazing & I got 25% off everything too "Size is spot on and I don't need to shorten it as I'm five foot one inch that is usually the case. A fifth revealed: "I popped into Sainsbury's to get my mum's shopping and saw this dress as soon as I walked in. "I just fell in love with it; the vibrant colours, the style - pockets! - and it just made me smile. "I wasn't disappointed when I tried it on when I got home. It is easy to wear, comfortable and just the right length. I am so pleased and can't wait to wear it." Meanwhile, a sixth wrote: "Adjustable straps floaty and a linen type feel to the fabric. On trend." Is supermarket fashion the new high street? DEPUTY Fashion Editor Abby McHale weighs in: The supermarkets have really upped their game when it comes to their fashion lines. These days, as you head in to do your weekly food shop you can also pick up a selection of purse-friendly, stylish pieces for all the family. Tesco has just announced a 0.7 per cent increase in the quarter thanks to a 'strong growth in clothing' and M&S has earnt the title of the number one destination for womenswear on the high street. Asda's clothing line George has made £1.5 million for the supermarket in 2023, 80 per cent of Sainsbury's clothes sold at full price rather than discounted and Nutmeg at Morrisons sales are also up 2 per cent in the past year. So what is it about supermarket fashion that is becoming so successful? Apart from the clothing actually being affordable, it's good quality too - with many being part of schemes such as the Better Cotton Initiative. A lot of the time they keep to classic pieces that they know will last the customer year after year. Plus because they buy so much stock they can turn around pieces quickly and buy for cheaper because of the volumes.
