Naga Munchetty 'set to quit BBC Breakfast following bullying allegations'

Naga Munchetty is reportedly in talks to leave BBC Breakfast and go to the radio station LBC. It comes after the broadcaster's flagship morning programme was hit with bullying allegations, including against the 50-year-old TV presenter. It was reported earlier this year that an internal investigation was being carried out into allegations of bullying at the BBC show. It was then confirmed that the editor of BBC Breakfast, Richard Frediani, would be taking a period of extended leave from the programme. He has headed up the daily show from Salford since 2019. A month later, it was then reported by Deadline that Frediani had returned to the show. The Sun has also reported claims that Munchetty faced her own bullying allegations and had been spoken to by BBC bosses over two incidents in three years. The publication has now claimed Munchetty, who has presented the BBC programme since 2014, is on the verge of quitting the public service broadcaster, with her representatives said to have renewed talks last week with radio station rival LBC. An inside source told the publication: 'Naga loves the BBC and her job but there's only so much external noise anyone is prepared to take. 'Her team last week renewed talks with LBC. The Global Radio station would suit her as there's far less of the fluffy nonsense that's involved in working at the BBC.' An HR adviser from consultancy firm PwC is supporting the Beeb as it reviews the culture of the BBC One morning show. The report of Munchetty's possible departure comes after the top BBC salaries were once again revealed this week, with the annual report revealed that she takes home between £355,000 and £359,000. More Trending In the wake of the bullying allegations at BBC Breakfast, the BBC said it did not comment on individual cases but takes 'all complaints about conduct at work extremely seriously and will not tolerate behaviour that is not in line with our values'. A BBC statement added: 'We have robust processes in place and would encourage any staff with concerns to raise them directly with us so they can be addressed.' Naga Munchetty reportedly leaving BBC Breakfast for rival station amid 'bullying' allegations

Naga Munchetty is said to be in talks with a rival news station after a bullying row at the flagship show. BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty is rumoured to be on the verge of leaving her role at the broadcaster, with reports suggesting her representatives are in discussions with LBC for new prospects. ‌ The revelation follows shortly after Munchetty was identified as the fourth highest-earning woman at the BBC, with the Corporation's annual pay disclosure report listing her earnings between £355,000 and £359,000, a sum that includes her Radio 5 contributions. ‌ Despite drawing a substantial salary, it's believed Munchetty may be considering a move due to an alleged ongoing bullying controversy within the morning programme. ‌ Last month, it emerged that Munchetty's team had previously engaged with both LBC and Sky News, but the initiation of an inquiry into bullying allegations on Breakfast prompted a renewed approach. The investigation centred around show director Richard Frediani, who faced scrutiny from an independent consultant over claims of a "draconian" management style and misconduct. However, amidst the turmoil, attention has also been directed towards Munchetty's behaviour. An insider informed The Sun: "The fallout of Frediani's investigation created a stark 'him or her' narrative on Breakfast with Naga flung to the front line. "The fact is she loves the BBC and her job but there's only so much external noise anyone is prepared to take. ‌ "LBC would suit her well as the focus remains on news-led broadcasting, they take a hard line and there's far less of the fluffy nonsense involved in working at the BBC," reports the Express. Her team recently resumed historic discussions with the Global radio station to explore potential opportunities for her there. Following the investigation, Frediani has returned to his role on the show after a prolonged leave of absence. ‌ It's understood he faced two misconduct complaints. A BBC spokesperson informed "While we do not comment on individual cases, we take all complaints about conduct at work extremely seriously." ‌ Express Online have also sought comments from Naga's representatives. Naga shares hosting duties on BBC Breakfast three days a week alongside Charlie. He is said to earn £190,000 annually, while his colleague Sally Nugent receives £200,000 and Jon Kay, £240,000. ‌ gearing up to pursue legal proceedings against the BBC following his dismissal from MasterChef. The chef was axed from the cookery programme after accusations of using "an extremely offensive racist term" were substantiated. Torode claimed he had "no recollection" of the incident - and revealed in a public statement that he'd only discovered his contract had been terminated when the BBC and production company Banijay released the announcement. Sources close to the television personality now reveal he's consulting employment solicitors as he battles to "clear his name". Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!

Naga Munchetty 'looking for new job and set to quit' BBC Breakfast after bullying row

BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty is reportedly in talks to join another station amid the programme's bullying row BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty has reportedly 'renewed talks' with a radio station away from the corporation amid a bullying row that has plagued the morning programme. Last month, it was revealed show boss Richard Frediani was on extended leave on the flagship show after complaints about his behaviour. ‌ Host Munchetty was also said to not get on with him. However, many staff members came out in defence of the editor. One even told the Mirror that some staff were disappointed with Munchetty who it's claimed raised concerns about Frediani's management style with BBC managers. ‌ And now, a source has claimed that the presenter 'loves the BBC' but is looking for a new job. ‌ Speaking to The Sun, they said: "Her team last week renewed talks with LBC. The Global Radio station would suit her as there's far less of the fluffy nonsense that's involved in working at the BBC.' The Mirror have reached out to Munchetty's reps for comment. Meanwhile, the BBC's annual salary was recently published and Munchetty was revealed to be earning almost double her co-host Charlie Stayt's pay. ‌ Stayt and Munchetty present BBC Breakfast from Thursday to Saturday morning, while Jon Kay and Sally Nugent take the helm from Monday to Wednesday. Stayt, aged 63, has stayed within the £190,000 salary band, whereas Munchetty, aged 50, has enjoyed a £10,000 increase to her earnings, moving from £345,000 to £355,000. ‌ Munchetty, who has presented on the flagship news programme since 2014, has always been paid more than Stayt. Her pay packet accounts for 180 days of presenting on BBC Breakfast, as well as her Radio 5 Live programme and election coverage. The BBC pay comes amid a bullying row concerning the BBC Breakfast editor. Some current and former staff of the programme jumped to his defence. One source told the Mirror: 'He is not a bully at all and the truth will come out. He's a great boss and was - and is still - overwhelmingly loved by the team, who respect his drive, expertise, and journalistic ambition. He has delivered great audiences and the first ever Bafta for breakfast TV. ‌ 'He can be brash and opinionated but works so hard for his team and allows people to flourish.' A second source said: 'Yes, he is old-school and can rub people up the wrong way but it's always in the pursuit of great television. It's the best-rating breakfast show in the country - it's not supposed to be a walk in the park. Some - Naga included - need to understand this. It feels like it's a case of presenter power turfing out a brilliant journalist.' Co-host Stayt is also said to have a strained relationship with Frediani.

This week on the BBC: rows over Gaza, alleged bullying and Kneecap

Photo by Mike Kemp/In Pictures Ltd./Corbis via Getty Images More than 200 BBC staff have signed a letter saying the corporation's refusal to air Gaza: Medics Under Fire shows 'the BBC is not reporting 'without fear or favour' when it comes to Israel'. One insider whispered: 'The BBC's news coverage of Gaza has been terrible. And then to drop this film for no good reason beyond upsetting the Israelis shows utter cowardice by management.' In a statement, the BBC said it was 'determined to report all aspects of the conflict in the Middle East impartially and fairly'. Broadcasters are now battling to air the documentary after the BBC handed back rights to the independent production company Basement Films. Breakfast TV host Naga Munchetty may have earned a reputation for fortitude by standing up for junior female staff in the face of a 'tyrannical' show editor, but she was outgunned in the latest vicious BBC briefing war. While pressure mounted over Richard Frediani's alleged 'aggressive management style', the Sun claimed Munchetty made a 'crude quip about a sex act' off-air at Radio 5 Live in 2022 and had allegedly been reprimanded for bullying a junior staffer. Rumours are that Munchetty has designs on the LBC weekend breakfast show but these have been hampered by concerns over her 'reputation for being tough'. Like a JCB churning through a field of daisies, JD Vance has joined BlueSky, the social network for lefties exhausted by the fury of X. After being temporarily expelled due to verification issues (no one could believe it was actually him), he posted a rage-baity thread about trans youth to prove it absolutely was. Within hours he had been blocked by more than 110,000 accounts. The daisies fight back. How grateful Martine Croxall must be that BBC bosses are 'intensely relaxed' and backing her after she changed an autocue that mentioned 'pregnant people' to say simply 'women'. Presumably they're the same bosses who just four months ago reached a settlement with her over claims she was among those being discriminated against for their age and sex. It was perhaps not the publicity the BBC might have wished for when Kneecap's Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, newly bailed after a court appearance on terror charges for flying a flag supporting Hezbollah, told fans: 'For anybody going to Glastonbury, you can see us there at 4pm on the Saturday. If you can't be there, we'll be on the BBC.' Insiders say Kneecap's set will be aired after the event, rather than live, and only if there are no guideline breaches. Greatest Hits Radio is to rebroadcast the full ten hours of Live Aid, 40 years on, despite criticism of the event's harmful impact on perceptions of Africa. One 1985 participant unlikely to be tuning in is the Rolling Stones' Keith Richards, 81, who later questioned the organisers' motives: 'I know the music business, and it isn't that pure.' A profile of Mark Zuckerberg in the Financial Times reveals Trump discussed the Meta boss taking a role in the White House. Meta staff apparently refer to their boss as 'Maga Mark', although the firm's chief technology officer insists the world is seeing 'authentic' Zuckerberg. How fortunate this chimes with Trump's agenda, just as Meta begs for backing in potentially catastrophic regulatory and legal battles. Indian-origin BBC presenter Naga Munchetty is facing allegations of bullying and inappropriate off-air behaviour. The confrontation reportedly occurred behind closed was humiliating. There was no evidence, no apology. The woman left not long after, completely demoralised," an insider told The Sun, adding that this was not an isolated case: "It really is the tip of the iceberg." The 2022 incident reportedly shocked those present in the studio, prompting management to speak to Munchetty.A senior producer is said to have reprimanded her, although no formal disciplinary action followed. One insider described the moment as "crass, inappropriate and wildly unprofessional," adding that the person targeted "felt embarrassed".These revelations come amid heightened scrutiny of the BBC over workplace misconduct, with multiple allegations emerging involving senior Times recently reported that the BBC Breakfast editor, Richard Frediani, is currently under formal investigation for bullying. Staff have been asked to share their experiences of working on the programme, according to Deadline, a UK has taken extended leave following accusations that include shouting at staff, kicking a bin, and pressuring news teams not to save major stories for evening bulletins. One particularly serious allegation claims he shook a female the controversy, Munchetty appeared on air on BBC Breakfast on June 20 (Friday), co-hosting alongside Charlie Stayt. Reports indicate that she had previously raised concerns with BBC leadership about Frediani's conduct, even as allegations about her own behaviour within the BBC told The Times that Munchetty and Stayt had a strained relationship with Frediani, with minimal communication between them. "Fredi has no relationship with Charlie and Naga, which is weird when they are half of his frontline presenting roster," a senior figure in Salford said. 'It appears he doesn't like them and they don't like him for whatever reason, they don't talk to each other," he to the reports, a BBC spokesperson said, "While we do not comment on individual cases, we take all complaints about conduct at work extremely seriously and will not tolerate behaviour that is not in line with our values.
