Second J&K arrest through facial recognition tech; terror suspect held at Anantnag checkpoint
Representative image SRINAGAR: J&K police announced Sunday their second arrest through Facial Recognition System (FRS) since the AI-based technology was installed two months ago in some areas, picking up the terror suspect as he passed a checkpoint in Anantnag. The previous such breakthrough came last month. Muneeb Mushtaq Sheikh of Pulwama's Pampore was booked in cases under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and Explosive Substances Act. He was spotted at Ganishbal in Anantnag, part of south Kashmir where FRS is being used along with some pockets in central Kashmir. Upon detection, Muneeb was immediately taken into custody and shifted to Pahalgam police station for further verification, the police said in a statement. J&K police underlined the significance of FRS, vowing to continue leveraging modern tools to combat terror and ensure public safety. 'The swift identification and apprehension of the suspect highlights the effectiveness of advanced surveillance technologies, including FRS, in enhancing security and maintaining law and order,' the police said. On June 19, an alleged 'overground worker (OGW)' was held in Anantnag district, the first using FRS. The system flagged the suspect as he passed a checkpoint in the district's Langanbal area. OGWs are those who provide shelter and logistical support to terrorists. J&K authorities have rolled out FRS as part of a wider security overhaul. The system is equipped with real-time alert capabilities for security forces once a suspect appears within the surveillance camera's range.

Muneeb preaches kindness to animals this Eidul Azha
In a recent Instagram Story, Muneeb Butt shared a video clip of a camel hastily fleeing a busy neighbourhood. "Yes, this happened yesterday," Muneeb wrote, adding that he checked the CCTV footage to confirm what happened prior to the escape. "Some kids were throwing little stones at this poor animal. He broke his cord and ran," he explained. With Eidul Azha just around the corner, the Shiddat actor implored, "Please, teach your kids how to interact with sacrificial animals." Netizens nodded along to Muneeb's statement, agreeing on the importance of treating animals with respect and kindness prior to the slaughter ritual on Eid. One Instagram user asserted that the sentiment should apply even beyond Eid: "Not just sacrificial animals, but with all animals. Raise your children with empathy towards the creation of Allah. It breaks my heart when I see children treating these innocent souls brutally." Another added, "Parents should teach their kids about animal rights." Sacrificial animals have been the talk of the town as of late, since earlier, Alizeh Shah urged netizens to be more sensitive and not share content of animals being slaughtered online. "Every year, I see so much pain on the roads – blood, fear in the eyes of animals, their cries – and my heart breaks," she said, stressing that while animals may not speak, they do have feelings. "They love, they nurture, they form bonds – just like we do. They were created by the same loving God who created us, and to see them suffer so publicly, often with pictures, jokes, and memes shared on social media – it's something I personally find very difficult to digest," she admitted. Alizeh acknowledged that people's intentions are often pure and reverent when it comes to observing religious sacrifice. She emphasised that she does not oppose the act of sacrifice itself, but instead hopes for some empathy this Eidul Azha. Requesting her followers to make this Eid more about the spirit of humility, the Taqdeer actor added, "If it's possible, please be mindful of the images and videos shared online. Some of us are deeply affected by them," she wrote. "Islam teaches mercy, compassion, and dignity – for humans and for animals." Alizeh added that anyone is free to disagree with her, but it personally pains her to watch the animals in such a state. "You may disagree and that's okay. I respect all views," she wrote. "But I had to say this because the silence has been heavy on my heart."

People holding Palestinian flags march to show their solidarity with Palestinians during an anti-Israel protest rally organised by Tanzeemat Ulema Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat. Photo: AFP Mufti-e-Azam Pakistan and head of Tanzeemat Ahle Sunnat Walj Jammat (ASJ) Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman, while addressing a rally on Sunday, strongly condemned Israel and India, calling them "war criminal states" and urging the Muslim Ummah to unite in rejecting their legitimacy and actions. Speaking at the conclusion of the Million March - which began at Numaish Chowrangi and culminated at Tibet Centre - Mufti Muneeb declared that Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah never recognised Israel, branding it an "illegitimate entity," and said the Muslim world should follow his legacy. "The Prime Ministers of Israel and India are war criminals who must be boycotted and brought to justice," he said. He reaffirmed that 250 million Pakistanis stand with their armed forces, warning that any Indian aggression will be met with a strong and unified response. The march, held in solidarity with the people of Palestine, against Indian aggression, and in support of the Pakistan Armed Forces, was attended by prominent religious leaders including Pir Muzaffar Hussain Shah, Allama Rehan, Shadab Naqshbandi. Participants arrived in caravans, waving Pakistani and Palestinian flags, chanting slogans against Israel and India, and expressing their unwavering support for Pakistan's military. Mufti Muneeb urged Muslim countries to devise a unified policy on Palestine through the OIC and called for the temporary suspension of ties with international human rights, women's rights, and children's rights organisations for their inaction on Palestine. He demanded that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu be tried for war crimes in accordance with the International Court of Justice ruling, and accused both Israel and India of state terrorism and genocide. "Palestine belongs to Palestinians, and Kashmir belongs to Kashmiris," he declared, calling their occupations illegal and inhumane. Proposing urgent humanitarian action, he called for the dispatch of medical caravans equipped with doctors, paramedics, mobile operation theatres, and diagnostic facilities to Palestine, as well as emergency food aid shipments. Mufti Muneeb also condemned India's water aggression, warmongering, and false flag operations in Pahalgam, while criticising the United Nations for its failure to act. "The UN is paralysed by veto power and enslaved to American and Western interests," he said, suggesting the world needs a new, effective global institution. He further alleged that India has committed acts of state terrorism even in countries like Canada, the US and the UK.

Aiman teases Muneeb about his best quality
In a recent video, celebrity couple Aiman Khan and Muneeb Butt were spotted dining out with Minal Khan and her husband Ahsan Mohsin Ikram. The candid footage captured a light-hearted exchange between the sisters and Muneeb, offering a rare glimpse into their off-camera dynamics. During the conversation, Minal playfully turned to her sister and asked, "You have to think that much about your husband's best quality?" Her teasing tone set off a round of laughter at the table. Aiman, laughing along, eventually answered, "Muneeb's best quality is that he laughs a lot and makes others laugh." Then, without missing a beat, she added, "And that's also his worst qualitythat he just laughs all the time." Muneeb, pretending to take offence, chimed in with mock seriousness: "She's being very strict these days. She keeps telling me, 'Don't laugh all the time when we go out.' So next time someone invites me to a party, I'll just roleplay a serious actor." The video, though brief, has been widely circulated on social media platforms, with fans appreciating the playful rapport among the group. Aiman and Muneeb recently celebrated the latter's birthday with an intimate celebration at home, cake, blue balloons and all. The couple shared glimpses of the celebration on Instagram, where fans praised the intimate setup and Aiman's styling. On the work front, Muneeb last starred as Sultan in Shiddat. Meanwhile, Aiman has hinted at a potential return to television after a hiatus, sparking speculation about her next project. In March, the actor stated, "I have plans for a comeback soon, but I have been very busy with my family, kids, and business. I will return if I am offered a small role that does not require a long commitment. I don't miss being on TV because we have an actor at home, and people are still watching my dramas on repeat, so it doesn't feel like I'm away."
