Agency: PTI Last Updated: Kushinagar (UP), Jul 24 (PTI) A man was arrested for allegedly abducting, raping and forcefully converting the religion of a 14-year-old girl here, police said on Thursday. Superintendent of Police Santosh Kumar Mishra said that a case was registered after the girl's father filed a complaint on July 12 at the Nebua Naurangia police station, accusing Shamshad alias Munna of abducting his daughter. Following this, police teams rescued the minor and arrested Munna from Pipra Bazar on Thursday. Mishra said Munna, a local resident working in Bengaluru, had taken the girl to a place near Kerala after forcefully changing her religion and raping her. He also changed her name to Nargis Khatoon and obtained an Aadhaar Card under this name, he added. Further legal proceedings are underway. Kolkata: The Bengal STF has arrested owners of a mobile shop on Birbhum for allegedly creating fake Aadhaar cards, using forged documents, in exchange for money. Sheikh Miraj and Abdul Quddus, alias Sheikh Munna, were rounded up from Sattor in Parui on Sunday. An STF officer said they were investigating their possible links with Bangladeshi terror agencies, given that two arrested JMB men—Saab Sheikh alias Saab Rabbi, also an Ansarullah Bangla Team terror cell member—frequented Sattor. "Miraj and Munna might have been helping the Pakistani spy network, with fake Aadhaars being used to get Indian SIMs," said the officer. The two were presented in the Bidhannagar court on Monday and sent to seven-day police custody. Relief for 4 as HC drops murder charge, reduces sentence to 7 yrs

Bhopal/Jabalpur: A division bench of the MP High Court reduced charges against four persons convicted for life on charges of murder under section 302 of the IPC to culpable homicide not amounting to murder under section 304 of the IPC. The court also reduced the quantum of their punishment to 7 years of rigorous imprisonment. The accused in the case were sentenced to life by a sessions court in 1996. By the time the MP High Court amended the order, the main accused in the case already remained in jail for 10 years, though he is currently on bail. The remaining three accused are also on bail, and the court asked them to surrender in court to complete their jail term of 7 years while ordering the main accused to be set free as he already remained in jail in excess of 7 years. A sessions court in Jabalpur sentenced four accused in a murder case—Buddhu, Munna, Imrat, and Burju—to life imprisonment in 1996 for attacking and fatally wounding 60-year-old Nakku following a dispute. The court asked them to surrender in Jabalpur court to complete their remaining sentence in jail.
