Telangana CID nabs another accused in inter-State kidney trafficking racket
The Telangana Crime Investigation Department (CID) has apprehended another accused in the inter-State human organ trafficking racket, that operated under the guise of legitimate organ donation and transplantation, at a private hospital in Hyderabad. Previously, 16 persons had been arrested in connection with the case. On July 1, CID officers from the Sangareddy unit arrested another suspect, identified as Kondagoni Murali Krishna, a resident of Vizianagaram in Andhra Pradesh. He was picked up by a special team in his hometown, and a BMW car was seized from his possession. Murali Krishna was brought to Hyderabad and produced before the magistrate the following day. According to investigators, the accused targeted vulnerable and financially poor individuals from Tamil Nadu, enticing them with false promises of employment. The victims were then trafficked to Hyderabad, where illegal kidney transplants were carried out with the help of accomplices, including individuals identified as Pradeep from Bengaluru, Pavan, and his associates. For each transplant, the accused is believed to have earned a commission of ₹10 lakh, out of which only ₹4 to ₹5 lakh was paid to the donor. The case came to light following a complaint from the Deputy District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) of Rangareddy district regarding illegal activities at Alakananda Multi Speciality Hospital, Kothapet, under the limits of Saroornagar Police Station. A case was registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act, 1994. The case was later transferred to the CID on April 24 for further investigation. CID officials say more arrests may follow as the investigation expands across State borders.

Neurologist shares 3 brain exercises to improve your focus and memory
Just like physical exercise tones your body, mental workouts can strengthen your brain, enhancing focus, memory, and overall cognitive function. Dr Murali Krishna, Consultant Neurologist at CARE Hospitals, Malakpet, emphasizes the importance of neuroplasticity – the brain's ability to form new connections – in cognitive enhancement. Exercising your brain is crucial for maintaining and improving cognitive functions, including focus and memory, Dr Krishna said. Here's why: • Neuroplasticity: The brain can reorganise itself by forming new neural connections throughout life. Engaging in mental exercises stimulates this process, enhancing learning, memory, and the ability to adapt to new situations. • Preventing Cognitive Decline: Regular brain exercise can help slow down the natural cognitive decline associated with aging. It keeps the brain active and engaged, potentially reducing the risk of conditions like Alzheimer's and dementia. • Enhancing Concentration: Mental exercises improve your ability to focus and concentrate on tasks. This is because they often require sustained attention and the use of working memory, which strengthens these cognitive abilities over time. • Improving Memory: Just as physical exercise strengthens muscles, mental exercise strengthens neural pathways. This can lead to better retention and recall of information, as well as improved short-term and long-term memory. Dr Krishna recommended doing these exercises to improve your focus: – How it works: These practices involve focusing your mind and being aware of your thoughts, emotions, and sensations without judgment. – Benefits: Regular meditation can improve attention span, reduce stress, and enhance memory by increasing the thickness of the prefrontal cortex and the hippocampus, areas involved in focus and memory. – Example exercise: Spend 10-20 minutes daily in a quiet place, focusing on your breath or a specific mantra. When your mind wanders, gently bring your attention back. – How it works: Engaging in activities that challenge your memory and problem-solving skills can strengthen neural connections. – Benefits: Games like Sudoku, crossword puzzles, and memory card games improve short-term memory and cognitive flexibility. – Example exercise: Play memory card games where you match pairs, do crossword puzzles, or complete a Sudoku puzzle daily. – How it works: Acquiring new knowledge or skills requires the brain to process and store new information, forming new neural pathways. – Benefits: This type of mental exercise improves both memory and focus as you practice and apply new concepts. – Example exercise: Start learning a new language using apps like Duolingo, take up a musical instrument, or enroll in a course that interests you.

RUB gets govt's green light; work set to commence soon
Hyderabad: The Road Under Bridge (RUB) at Level Crossing (LC) Gate-249, which has been pending for a long time, will finally see the light of the day, as the consent was obtained from the Medchal- Malkajgiri Collector recently. According to the sources, for the past several years, the proposed RUB at LC Gate 249 at Turkapally has been lying in the district collector's office for approval and recently, the collector has given the green signal to begin the works. Now the stretch has been dug up and LC Gate on New Bolaram to Turkapally Village main road has been closed and commuters have been verbally urged to take alternate routes. The RUB is sanctioned in lieu of LC No-249 (Turkapally) on the SC-MUE section which is combined work with ten LCs (Sanctioned cost of 10 LCs is Rs 49.50 crore). This will help in strengthening the safety for both road and rail users, facilitate seamless movement of traffic for road users at level crossing gates, said a senior officer, SCR. Murali Krishna, president of Federation of New Bolarum, said, 'Many colonies in Turkapally are cut off due to LC 249 and several motorists are being forced to wait for hours to cross the rail gate every day, as it provides an intermediate connection between the National Highway-44 at Kompally and the Rajiv Rahadari.' Even as several RTIs were filed and many inspections were conducted by the railways as well as the state government, the final nod from the collector was pending, which resulted in delay of the project. The RUBs at this stretch will help in the smooth flow of traffic once they are complete, he added.

Telangana SDRF makes public debut with drill at Secunderabad Boat Club
The Telangana State Disaster Response Force (TGSDRF) held its first public demonstration on Friday at the Boat Club in Secunderabad, displaying its new high-tech equipment and showcasing mock rescue demonstrations for building collapses, floods, and earthquakes. Clad in navy blue trousers and orange full-sleeve uniforms bearing the TGSDRF logo, a group of officers led the drill while another team, dressed in yellow tracksuits, also took part. The newly-formed force comprises over 1,000 personnel drawn from the Telangana State Special Police (TGSP). Around 100 personnel from the rank of constable up to sub-inspector participated in the demonstration. The showcase featured three types of flood-related simulations, including rescue operations during a mock drowning scenario, emergency responses during natural calamities, and high-speed manoeuvres using rafts and speed boats. Equipment received from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was also put on display, including high-tech cutters, jacks, loaders and gear used in collapsed structure search and rescue, rope rescues, and medical emergencies. Director General of Police Jitender, addressing the gathering, said the force was conceived after the repeated flooding incidents last year. 'To reduce our dependence on the NDRF, the government sanctioned the formation of 10 SDRF units with about 1,000 personnel from TGSP. These units have been trained and equipped to operate independently,' he said. TGSP Yousufguda Commandant Murali Krishna added that the force will be deployed not just during floods, but for any natural disaster, including earthquakes and building collapses. All SDRF personnel underwent specialised training in swimming, river rafting and rescue techniques at NDRF centres in Cuttack, Arakkonam, Vadodara, Pune, and Vijayawada. Twelve battalions across the state now house SDRF teams, including units in Yousufguda, Adilabad, Warangal, Kothagudem, Kondapur and Nalgonda. Each team, comprising 100 members, is expected to respond within an hour to flood or rainfall-related emergencies. Hyderabad is currently served by teams from the 1st and 8th battalions. The SDRF was officially launched on 6 December 2024 during the Vijayotsav celebrations, following Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy's directive to create a dedicated rapid-response disaster force. Senior officials including Additional DGPs Mahesh M Bhagwat, Sanjay Kumar Jain, and IGP M. Ramesh were present at the event.
