‘Art of the Kingdom' Exhibition Opens in Beijing July 30
The Museums Commission announced that the traveling exhibition 'Art of the Kingdom: Poetic Visions' will open at the National Museum of China in Beijing on July 30, marking a cultural milestone in celebration of Saudi Arabia and China's diplomatic ties under the 'Saudi-Chinese Cultural Year 2025' initiative. This exhibition is the first of its scale to showcase contemporary Saudi artists abroad and features more than 30 artists of diverse backgrounds and styles. It offers a platform to explore bold themes such as identity, memory, tradition, and transformation — through painting, installation, video art, and multimedia works — presenting a powerful portrait of Saudi Arabia's evolving creative landscape. The show follows previous stops in Rio de Janeiro (November 2024) at the historic Imperial Palace and Riyadh (early 2025) at the Saudi Museum of Contemporary Art in JAX. Its arrival in Beijing marks the third leg of its international tour. Among the featured artists are renowned names such as Manal AlDowayan, Muhannad Shono, Lina Qazzaz, Ahmed Mater, Ayman Yossri Daydban, Dana Awartani, and Shadia Alem, offering visitors an in-depth journey through Saudi Arabia's visual culture and artistic narratives. The Beijing edition also includes a new section honoring Saudi modern art pioneers from the 1960s to 1980s, alongside curated selections from the Saudi Ministry of Culture's collection. Focusing on the desert and cultural heritage as its twin themes, the exhibition invites audiences to engage with the region's evolving visual identity while sparking dialogue on contemporary Saudi life. The exhibition exemplifies how cultural diplomacy can strengthen mutual understanding between nations. It also reflects Saudi Arabia's ongoing cultural transformation and international outreach as Saudi artists increasingly gain visibility on the global stage. Open call for 12th Red Sea International Conference in Jeddah
JEDDAH: Experts in the fields of archaeology, history, anthropology, environmental studies and museum curation are being invited to apply to take part in the 2026 edition of the Red Sea International Conference. The event, which will run from April 9-12, will be held at the Bab Al-Bunt building, which sits within Jeddah's UNESCO-listed Historic District and is the future home of the Red Sea Museum. Launched in 2002, the conference is regarded as a key platform for interdisciplinary dialogue on the Red Sea's historical significance. Previous editions have been held in partnership with the British Museum, University of Southampton, University of Warsaw and University of Crete, among others. The open call for the 2026 event was issued by Saudi Arabia's Museums Commission and Heritage Commission. Participants will explore a broad range of themes, from ancient maritime trade and the archaeology of coastal cities and ports, to environmental history, underwater heritage and the Red Sea's legacy as a crossroads of cultures linking Africa, Arabia and the Indian Ocean. Anyone interested in taking part should submit an abstract, limited to 300 words and written in English, to by Oct. 15. Poster proposals are also welcomed and will be reviewed by a scientific committee. To support broad participation in the conference, the commissions will provide five grants to cover the cost of travel, accommodation and registration to researchers whose papers are accepted. Priority will be given to applicants from the Red Sea region and developing countries. By hosting the conference in Jeddah, the commissions aim to bolster Saudi Arabia's academic and cultural standing, while reaffirming the Red Sea's enduring significance as a living archive of human history, exchange and civilization.

Saudi Arabia, France Unite to Revolutionize Music, Museum Collaboration
Saudi Arabia's Museums Commission has inked an executive program with the Cité de la Musique — Philharmonie de Paris. This agreement enhances cooperation in the fields of museums and music and aligns with the Kingdom's cultural ambitions under Vision 2030. The partnership aims to strengthen cultural ties and foster joint initiatives between the two countries. The signing took place between Museums Commission acting CEO Ibrahim Alsanousi and Philharmonie de Paris CEO Olivier Mantei. This collaboration focuses on several key areas, including artifact loans, shared collections, and the exchange of historical musical instruments. Notably, the Tariq Abdulhakim Museum in Jeddah will play a significant role in these exchanges. The program also covers collaborative traveling exhibitions and cultural events. Mona Khazindar, adviser to the Ministry of Culture, emphasized the importance of this partnership, stating, 'This partnership demonstrates the Kingdom's commitment to fostering international cultural collaboration.' Furthermore, it enriches national institutions through global expertise. Khazindar added, 'This agreement directly supports the objectives of Vision 2030.' It enhances the cultural ecosystem, promotes artistic education, and ensures that museums become vibrant centers of learning. She highlighted that the Museums Commission's strategy emphasizes innovation, inclusivity, and cultural heritage preservation. Engaging the Community This collaboration will play a pivotal role in realizing the Kingdom's vision as it focuses on initiatives that engage youth and families in meaningful cultural experiences. Furthermore, the program includes developing training and educational initiatives for children and families. These initiatives will feature workshops and interactive installations adapted from the Philharmonie's programs for young audiences. Additionally, the agreement facilitates the exchange of expertise through researcher visits, seminars, and collaborative academic publications. These efforts will relate to both permanent and temporary exhibitions. Alsanousi emphasized the importance of the agreement, calling it a significant milestone. He stated, 'This partnership strengthens cultural ties between Saudi Arabia and France.' Music plays a vital role in cultural identity, and this collaboration supports transforming the Tariq Abdulhakim Museum. The museum will become an interactive and inspiring hub for musical education and engagement.
