The Beach Boys Chart New Top 40s Following Brian Wilson's Passing
The Beach Boys' Sounds of Summer rockets to No. 32 on the U.K.'s Official Albums chart after Brian ... More Wilson's passing, marking its first top 40 placement. The group's catalog experienced a massive uptick in every form of consumption after news broke that founding member and musical legend Brian Wilson had passed away in mid-June. In the United Kingdom, multiple albums by the Grammy-nominated group have returned to various charts, and this week, they even climb to never-before-seen peaks as sales and streams of everything connected to the California legends expanded. Sounds of Summer Becomes a Top 40 Success Among the three Beach Boys projects that appear on at least one albums chart in the U.K. this week, only Sounds of Summer – The Very Best Of manages to reenter and reach a new peak on several tallies. The compilation, which gathers many of the band's most famous tunes, rockets from No. 90 to No. 32 on the Official Albums chart, the ranking of the most consumed full-lengths and EPs in the country. As it jumps nearly 60 spots, the singles-packed project reaches the top 40 for the first time, only eight weeks into its tenure on the list – but long after its original release. Sounds of Summer also becomes a top 40 win on the Official Albums Streaming tally for the very first time. On that ranking, which looks only at a title's total number of plays on platforms like Spotify, the Beach Boys compilation reenters at No. 32. It had previously spent just three weeks on the tally since debuting in mid-2020 and had not appeared on the list in nearly four years. The same compilation can also be found on both the Official Albums Sales and Official Album Downloads charts. It just misses the top 40 on the former and dips from its all-time peak of No. 2 to third place on the downloads-only roster. Pet Sounds Surges on Several Tallies Pet Sounds — widely regarded as not only the most critically-acclaimed Beach Boys release but also one of the greatest musical projects of all time — rises to a new high of No. 18 on the Official Albums Sales chart this week. At the same time, it reenters both the Official Albums and Official Vinyl Albums tallies at Nos. 85 and 23, respectively. Like Sounds of Summer, Pet Sounds also appears on the Official Album Downloads tally inside the top 10. It additionally surges from No. 81 to No. 28 on the Official Physical Albums ranking. The Beach Boys Greatest Hits Compilation Keeps Going Last week, Greatest Hits by The Beach Boys soared to No. 52 on the Official Album Downloads chart, as platforms like iTunes are typically where most fans go to purchase songs and full-lengths by artists who have just passed away. This frame, the compilation — which appears only on that one ranking — dips a handful of spaces to No. 52.

Frank Sinatra's ‘Classic' Album Returns To Multiple Charts
Frank Sinatra's Classic Sinatra reenters Billboard's Jazz Albums and Traditional Jazz Albums charts, ... More helping the legend fill four total spots this frame. American actor and singer Frank Sinatra (1915 - 1998) in an orange armchair. (Photo by Silver) These days, Frank Sinatra's music is typically classified as jazz when it appears on the Billboard charts, even though that label might not have applied to his work when many of his tracks and albums were first released. The late crooner continues to find a home on the Jazz Albums and Traditional Jazz Albums lists in the United States, often with one or two titles — and sometimes even more — appearing simultaneously. This frame is another strong one for Sinatra, as he occupies multiple spots across both rosters. There's one notable highlight for him at the moment, as one previously-charting set launches a comeback on both lists. Classic Sinatra: His Great Performances 1953–1960 reappears on both the Traditional Jazz Albums and Jazz Albums charts. It narrowly misses returning to the top 10 on the former, landing at No. 11. Meanwhile, it reenters the broader Jazz Albums tally at No. 15. Classic Sinatra has previously broken into the top 10 on the two rankings, though it doesn't manage to do so again this frame. The collection recently passed its first full year on the Traditional Jazz Albums chart, and it has now spent 55 frames on the list. On the all-encompassing Jazz Albums ranking, it celebrates a milestone 70 weeks as it returns. In total, Sinatra fills four spots on the two tallies. This frame, he keeps both Ultimate Sinatra and Nothing But the Best inside the top 10. The former dips slightly, falling just below the top spot and slipping ever so slightly on both charts. Meanwhile, Nothing But the Best holds steady at No. 8 on the Traditional Jazz Albums chart and No. 10 on the Jazz Albums list. Further down, yet another compilation of Sinatra's most beloved tunes, Ultimate Sinatra: The Centennial Collection — which is counted by Billboard as a different release from Ultimate Sinatra — declines slightly. It falls a few rungs on both charts, settling at Nos. 15 and 20 on the Traditional Jazz Albums and Jazz Albums tallies, respectively.

Sly Stone, Sly and the Family Stone frontman, dies at 82
Sly Stone, the funk music pioneer and frontman of Sly and the Family Stone, has died at the age of 82, his manger, Arlene Hirschkowitz, confirmed to CBS News. Despite keeping his personal life mostly out of the public eye, Stone became one of the most influential musicians of the late 1960s and 70s with hits like "Everyday People," "Dance to the Music," "Hot Fun in the Summertime." Sly Stone of Sly And The Family Stone performs on stage in July 1974 in Los Angeles, United States. Gijsbert Hanekroot/Redferns In 2023, the music legend let fans get a rare look into his world by releasing a memoir titled "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)" — also the title of one of his greatest hits. The book, co-written with music journalist Ben Greenman, detailed his revolutionary music style and also the addictions which took him out of the spotlight. Born Sylvester Stewart in Denton, Texas, Stone's family moved to Vallejo, California, when he was young — and music was always with him. "My father played washboard, guitar, violin, fiddle, harmonica. My mother played keyboards and guitar. Music was as much a part of our home as the walls or the floor," Stone wrote in his memoir. "The piano was as prominent as the kitchen table." He went on to study music composition at a junior college while working as a radio DJ. Sly and the Family Stone was formed in March 1967, and the band quickly made its way up the charts in the winter of 1968 with "Dance To the Music," which was later chosen for the Grammy Hall Of Fame and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's "500 Songs That Shaped Rock." Every composition of the band was penned by Stone. This is a developing story and will be updated.
