As Recalls Pile Up, What's Next For Ford Stock?
AUSTIN, TEXAS - JUNE 24: Ford vehicles are seen for sale on a dealership lot on June 24, 2025 in ... More Austin, Texas. Ford Motor is recalling more than 197,000 Mustang Mach-E vehicles after a malfunction with the door latches has surfaced according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. (Photo by) Ford Motor (NYSE:F) is under ongoing scrutiny in 2025 regarding its vehicle quality and safety standards, leading the U.S. auto industry in safety recalls by a significant margin. In the first half of the year, Ford has issued 88 recalls — over four times the number of the next manufacturer, as per federal data. Just last week, Ford reported another major recall involving 850,000 pickup trucks and SUVs due to a potential fuel pump failure that could cause the engine to stall during operation, presenting a serious risk to drivers. Additionally, consider the potential for growth in Google Stock To $350? What implications does this carry for Ford and investors? The consequences are serious. Quality issues could damage consumer trust and increase warranty and recall costs. Ford stock remains down approximately 15% over the past 12 months, while the S&P 500 has gained 11%, indicating investor worries about the company's escalating operational and reputational challenges. On a separate note, cryptocurrencies are starting to gain momentum again. See – Will The Rally In XRP Price Continue? How The Recalls Affect Ford The rising number of recalls could become costly. Ford must bear the costs of repairing or replacing faulty components across millions of vehicles. This will include expenses for parts, labor, and logistical efforts to oversee the recall process. More critically, the ongoing presence of safety concerns may undermine consumer trust and Ford's reputation for reliability. As quality issues escalate, Ford risks ceding market share to competitors perceived as more reliable, especially as the auto industry gradually shifts towards electrification. CEO Jim Farley has already recognized Ford's disadvantage in this sector, stating that the company is lagging behind Chinese automakers who currently dominate several global EV markets. These quality concerns are already impacting Ford's financial performance. Warranty costs have become a consistent burden, increasing by 22% to $6 billion in 2024, primarily due to recall-related repairs. Since recalls generally fall under warranty coverage, these new concerns directly contribute to these costs. These challenges put pressure on margins and complicate Ford's ability to enhance profitability, particularly as it anticipates a loss of between $5 billion and $5.4 billion in its electric vehicle segment this year. How Ford Might Address Issues To tackle these quality and cost challenges, Ford is intensifying its focus on internal testing and product validation. Last year, CEO Farley mentioned that Ford is now 'putting vehicles to the test until they fail' under extreme conditions to identify defects earlier in the development phase. However, the company has cautioned that it may take as long as 18 months for these changes to yield results in reduced warranty claims and improved product reliability. In the meantime, Ford's key product lineup continues to demonstrate strength. The company reported a year-over-year sales increase of 14.2% in the U.S. during Q2 2025, reaching 612,095 units. This growth was primarily fueled by strong demand for pickups like the F-Series, Ranger, and Maverick, which collectively registered a 15% rise. F-Series sales grew by 11.5% to 222,459 units — marking the best Q2 since 2019. Ford Pro Super Duty sales jumped by 13.5%, while hybrid models also saw increases. Notably, the Maverick recorded a record quarter with 48,041 units sold, with almost 60% of buyers being new to the Ford brand. The EV market is also experiencing a slowdown, with industry leader Tesla witnessing a nearly 14% drop in deliveries during Q2. This may provide a respite for Ford, which has lagged in this segment. Slower growth in EV demand could afford Ford more time to generate revenue from its gas-powered vehicles and high-end pickups while restoring its quality assurance. Although Ford Motor stock has been underperforming, you might consider the Trefis Reinforced Value (RV) Portfolio, which has outperformed its all-cap stock benchmark (a combination of the S&P 500, S&P mid-cap, and Russell 2000 benchmark indices) in generating substantial returns for investors. What accounts for that? The quarterly adjusted mix of large-, mid-, and small-cap RV Portfolio stocks has allowed for a responsive approach to capitalize on positive market conditions while minimizing losses when markets retrench, as detailed in RV Portfolio performance metrics.

Can Massive Discounts Get Buyers to Care About the Nissan Ariya?

The Nissan Ariya Isn't Gaining Traction Since its arrival in the US, the Nissan Ariya has struggled to gain ground with buyers. Touted as the brand's first real electric SUV, the Ariya was supposed to challenge models like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Ford Mustang Mach-E. But based on the numbers, it's barely putting up a fight. In all of 2024, Nissan sold just 19,798 units of the Ariya. For the first half of 2025, the figure stands at 11,619 – an improvement over last year's pace, but still underwhelming. Compare that to Nissan's gas-powered Rogue, which moved 245,724 units in 2024 and 109,563 in the first half of 2025. 0:03 / 0:09 2025 Nissan Z undercuts Toyota Supra by a surprising amount Watch More Versus the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the Ariya hasn't been giving a tight contest. The Korean marque sold 44,400 units of the Ioniq 5 in 2024, while the first half of this year already saw 19,092 units delivered to owners. It doesn't help that the Ariya launched late, hampered by chip shortages and supply chain issues. Now that it's more widely available, Nissan seems to be sitting on more inventory than it can move. Massive Discounts, Lease Deals, and 0% Financing According to a recent dealer bulletin obtained by CarsDirect, Nissan is pulling out all the stops to sell the 2025 Ariya, which got updated pricing. Shoppers can now get a $10,000 Customer Cash rebate when purchasing the vehicle outright. That's a huge discount off the sticker price, but Nissan's not done there. Buyers who opt for special financing can choose 0% APR for 72 months and still get $2,500 in bonus cash. On a $50,000 Ariya, the special finance offer works out to be cheaper than taking the cash and applying a typical 7% APR loan. Leases are even more aggressive. In markets like Southern California, the base Ariya Engage trim is being advertised for $179 per month for 36 months, with $4,989 due at signing – an effective cost of just $318 per month. That's cheaper than leasing the current Nissan Leaf, even though the Ariya is larger, newer, and more advanced. The company recently installed a new CEO, Ivan Espinosa, but shareholders expressed doubt in his leadership during the company's latest annual meeting. The Ariya was supposed to mark a new chapter for Nissan, especially in the EV space, but somehow reflects the brand's ongoing struggles. With waning demand for EVs and more competition in the market, Nissan may need more than big discounts to fix its EV problem. Hopefully, the newly updated 2026 Leaf, which is also now a crossover, does that job for the brand. About the Author Jacob Oliva View Profile

Ford's Mach-E Woes Fuel EV Sales Slump: Is it Re-Strategizing?
Ford F currently has three models in its electric vehicle lineup —Mustang Mach-E SUV, F-150 Lightning pickup truck and E-Transit van. The company reported that in the second quarter, its EV sales plunged 31.4%. EV deliveries dropped from 23,957 units in the same period last year to 16,438 units this year. The slump was mainly due to a recall and a further halt in Mustang Mach-E deliveries. Mustang Mach-E's software glitch in electronic door latches posed serious risks of getting trapped inside or left outside the car. While a software update to fix this is expected to come out in the third quarter, the second quarter witnessed the recall, causing a setback to more than 317,000 vehicles globally. Another reason for such a sharp decline was Ford's prep for the model year 2025, causing factory shutdowns and resultant inventory shortages for all three EVs. Ford sold 5,842 F-150 Lightning trucks in the second quarter, marking a 26% decline compared with second-quarter 2024. Mustang Mach-E sales dropped 19.5% to 10,178 units, while E-Transit sales plunged 87.7%, with just 418 units sold. The troublesome conditions of its EV segment have led Ford to reconsider strategy and refocus on affordability. Ford is on its way to bring out a new lineup of EVs, beginning at prices lower than $30000. It is set to be launched in 2027. The loss in momentum also draws eyes toward Ford's exposure to tariffs, as only 13% of its top-selling model, Mustang Mach-E, is U.S. content. With an existing stop sale order and tariff woes looming, its best-selling EV is anticipated to face a big hit. Ford's broad lineup of electrified hybrids stands to rescue with a record sale of 156,509 units in the first half of 2025, powering its U.S. vehicle sales to grow 14.7%. Peer Comparison General Motors Company ( GM ), the American automaker giant, witnessed a strong second-quarter sales growth of 111% of EVs compared with the previous-year quarter. It now has a lineup of 11 EV models, of which Chevrolet has displayed the highest growth of 134% in the H1 sales, led by Equinox EV, which has secured General Motors' place among the top three best-selling EVs. Similarly, Cadillac emerged as the luxury EV market share leader in the second quarter. General Motors boasts an EV market share of 16%. Tesla, Inc. ( TSLA ), the pioneer in EV technology, has seen deliveries shrink in the second quarter as it struggles with a dated lineup, expensive pricing and the controversial politics. It reported 384,122 vehicle deliveries. The figure declined 14% from Tesla's year-ago level of 443,956. This was the second consecutive quarter that Tesla witnessed double-digit declines. Ford recalls Bronco, Mustang Mach-E models for door lock issues
The Ford logo is seen above the entrance to the Ford Motor Company Kentucky Truck Plant, Wednesday, April 30, 2025, in Louisville, Ky. (AP Photo/Carolyn Kaster, file) Ford has announced a pair of recalls for certain Bronco and Mustang Mach-E vehicles due to issues affecting the door locks, together impacting more than 35,000 vehicles. As of Thursday, the recalls target opposite problems affecting the door latches. In the case of the Mustang models, doors may remain locked when they aren't normally expected to, and for the Bronco SUVs, child-safety locks may fail to prevent some doors from opening. Here's what you need to know: Ford Mustang Mach-E recall The larger of the two recalls affects over 32,000 Ford Mustang Mach-E SUVs, including those from model years 2021 through 2025. According to a Transport Canada notice, the issue may originate from the software managing the power-control and secondary on-board diagnostic control modules. 'Under certain conditions, the electronic door latches could stay locked after the driver and/or front passenger exit the vehicle,' the notice reads. 'As a result, you may not be able to open the doors from the outside, or an occupant that's unable to use the inside door handle(s) may not be able to exit the vehicle on their own.' Transport Canada warns that in an emergency, the issue may delay first responders and slow some drivers or passengers trying to exit the vehicle. 'Both issues could increase the risk of injury,' the notice reads. Ford Bronco recall Also recalled are 2025 models of Ford Bronco SUVs, with nearly 4,000 units affected. The recall's Transport Canada notice reads that on some four-door models of the SUVs, the 'left-rear door may be opened from the inside when the child safety lock is in the 'ON' position.' A failure of the child-lock system could 'increase the risk of injury,' it says. If your vehicle is affected Transport Canada is advising owners of affected models that Ford will contact them by mail and direct them to bring their vehicle to a dealership, where the software for Mustang Mach-E models will be updated, and Bronco SUVs will be inspected for door-latch issues. Parts may be replaced if necessary, the Bronco notice reads. For more information, owners can contact Ford by phone at 1-800-565-3673, or look up their vehicle on the manufacturer's recalls page.
