MACC begins probe into MyKiosk

PETALING JAYA: Graft investigators have initiated a probe into alleged corruption and irregularities involving the tender process of the MyKiosk project under the Housing and Local Government Ministry. Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) senior director of investigation Datuk Zainul Darus said they launched a preliminary investigation into the matter following a complaint lodged by a political party. 'The Governance Investigation Division has also commenced a parallel investigation into the project. 'Apart from the ministry, which has submitted a full report on the tender process and award, several other parties have also provided documents related to the project,' he said in a statement yesterday. Zainul said MACC's probe would focus on two key aspects, namely identifying any elements of corruption and spotting irregularities in the tender process. 'The investigation is being conducted under the provisions of the MACC Act 2009,' he added. On May 21, MCA Youth lodged a report with MACC regarding the MyKiosk 2.0 project. MCA Youth deputy chief Mike Chong said concerns arose over high material costs, claiming the costs were higher than outside. He added that reports and feedback also indicated the kiosks were underutilised. Meanwhile, the ministry has pledged to fully cooperate with MACC, affirming that no compromise will be made with any party found to be involved in corruption or abuse of power. It said it had voluntarily handed over all documents related to the implementation of the MyKiosk initiative to MACC on May 22. 'We welcome MACC's investigation as a vital step in ensuring every government initiative is carried out with accountability, transparency and free from any element of corruption,' it said in a statement. MyKiosk, one of the ministry's economic empowerment initiatives, aims to support small-scale traders through the provision of affordable kiosks nationwide. According to the ministry, the ceiling cost for each MyKiosk 2.0 unit was set at RM25,000 by the Local Government Department. 'All procurement processes and contractor appointments under MyKiosk were carried out via open quotations by 133 local authorities (PBT) across the country. 'A total of 795 contractors have been appointed by the respective PBTs to undertake the supply and placement of the kiosks,' it added. In a statement yesterday, MCA Youth information chief Neow Choo Seong said the party welcomed MACC's investigation. 'This development affirms the legitimacy of the report lodged by MCA Youth and MCA Beliawanis with MACC on May 21, and underscores the seriousness of the concerns raised,' he said, adding that MACC's investigation was a clear validation that the concerns expressed by party were both credible and warranted. 'MCA Youth places its full trust in MACC to carry out this investigation with transparency, diligence and independence – free from political interference or bias.'

Housing Ministry pledges full cooperation in MACC's probe of the MyKiosk tender

PUTRAJAYA: The Housing and Local Government Ministry has pledged full cooperation with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in its investigation into alleged irregularities in the tender process of the MyKiosk initiative. The Ministry affirmed that it will not compromise with any party found involved in corruption or abuse of power. The Ministry voluntarily handed over all documents related to the implementation of the MyKiosk initiative to the MACC on May 22, 2025. 'This move reflects the Ministry's strong commitment to upholding the principles of integrity and transparency. "We welcome the MACC's investigation as a vital step to ensure every government initiative is carried out with accountability, transparency, and free from any element of corruption," the Ministry stated on Wednesday (July 2). MyKiosk, one of the Ministry's economic empowerment initiatives, aims to support small-scale traders by providing affordable kiosks nationwide. The ceiling cost for each MyKiosk 2.0 unit was set at RM25,000 by the Department of Local Government. "All procurement processes and contractor appointments under MyKiosk were carried out via open quotations by 133 local authorities across the country. "A total of 795 contractors have been appointed by the respective local authorities to undertake the supply and placement of the kiosks," it added. The Ministry reiterated that it would not tolerate any misconduct or corrupt practices at any stage of procurement or implementation, including at the local authority level. To further strengthen internal integrity, the Ministry has implemented several preventive measures, including the Traffic Light System and the establishment of Integrity Units at every local authority. These units are tasked with monitoring and assessing integrity performance while combating corrupt practices within their respective jurisdictions. Earlier, MACC Investigation Division senior director Datuk Zainul Darus confirmed that the commission had launched a preliminary investigation following a complaint lodged by a political party. "The Governance Investigation Division has also begun a parallel inquiry into the project. Besides the Ministry, which has submitted a comprehensive report on the tender process and award, several other parties involved have also submitted relevant documents," he said.

MyKiosk to be relocated for better support

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Johor will review MyKiosk locations to better assist traders and help improve their business, says a state executive councillor. Housing and local government committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor ( pic ) said the MyKiosk project was a positive initiative as it provides a place for underprivileged families and single parents to sell food. 'I have told the 16 local councils statewide to brainstorm and relocate those kiosks to more strategic places. We should help to promote the locations and offer training courses to the traders in need so they can improve their food products,' he told the state assembly here yesterday. The MyKiosk 2.0 project has faced scrutiny concerning its costs, site selection and other details. On Tuesday, Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming reportedly said he welcomed the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to 'have tea' at the ministry over the project.

From RM15,000 to RM25,000: MyKiosk 2.0 gets solar panels, hydraulic windows

Following the positive reception of MyKiosk 1.0, 18 upgrades were made, including modular installation (fully detachable units), solar panels with batteries and sloped roofing. New MyKiosk 2.0 units come with higher price tag, enhanced design SHAH ALAM - The cost of MyKiosk 2.0 units has increased compared to MyKiosk 1.0, reflecting significant upgrades made in response to feedback from traders and local authorities (PBTs). Launched four months ago, a MyKiosk 2.0 unit is now priced at RM25,000, up from RM15,000 for the MyKiosk 1.0 programme introduced in 2023. MyKiosk is a KPKT initiative that helps small traders get licences and provides them with a better, more comfortable place to do business. The Local Government Department (JKT) under the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) clarified that, following the positive reception of MyKiosk 1.0, 18 upgrades were made, including modular installation (fully detachable units), solar panels with batteries and sloped roofing. KPKT also stated that funding for the project was allocated to PBTs based on the cost outlined in the Letter of Acceptance (SST), which had been approved during the PBT-level Price Committee Meeting (JKSH). 'The increase in cost to RM25,000 reflects design specification upgrades that make the kiosks more user-friendly. 'These now feature larger solar energy systems, upgraded electrical systems with LED lighting for better illumination, hydraulic windows, and adjustable shelving for product arrangement," the department said. These enhancements respond to complaints and suggestions received during the MyKiosk 1.0 phase. Despite the added features, rental rates remain affordable, not exceeding RM300 per month. KPKT clarified that a total of 7,243 MyKiosk units were supplied nationwide through 349 contractors for MyKiosk 1.0 and 446 contractors for MyKiosk 2.0. The project is designed to benefit 133 PBTs and create opportunities for 795 local contractors involved in kiosk supply. 'The occupancy rate of the kiosks depends largely on the availability of vendors willing to start businesses and the selection of strategic locations. 'However, we do not object to PBTs relocating underperforming kiosks to more strategic areas to support small traders and help them generate income," KPKT said. More Like This
