Myleene Klass issues warning to others after she rescued her baby girl who choked on £1 decoration

Speaking on the We're Not Getting Any Younger podcast this week, the 47-year-old presenter said the horrific incident left her 'hysterical.' "She choked on one of those dayglo stars you stick on the ceiling,' the ex Hear'Say star recalled. She credits her first aid training with saving her daughter's life - and now refuses to keep the decorations, sold for as little as £2 a pack, anywhere in the house. Asked whether the star had fallen from the ceiling, Myleene clarified: 'She found it. She was so little, she couldn't even speak.' "Not just because she was choking, she physically couldn't communicate what had happened.' Describing the moment she realised something was wrong, Myleene said her daughter 'stumbled' into the kitchen, "holding her throat", while she was doing the washing up. "Her face had gone blue and then she just dropped to the floor. It was the longest five minutes of my life," she explained. When someone is choking, it means that the oxygen supply to the lungs is obstructed, the first aiders explained. This in turn cuts off the supply of oxygen to the brain. The lack of oxygen to the brain has widespread ramifications for the rest of the body, which become more serious with every minute. Children First Aid: Choking If your child doesn't receive oxygen to their brain for one to four minutes, they'll lose consciousness, according to Headway, a brain injury charity. After three minutes, the neurons in their brain will get damaged. Permanent brain damage becomes much more likely after four minutes of your tot not being able to breathe. After 10 minutes, a child could slip into a coma and lasting brain damage becomes almost inevitable if their brain is still alive. Survival becomes almost impossible after 15 minutes. This is why it's imperative that parents learn choking first aid. 6 Myleene has first aid training Credit: stjohn_ambulance/Instagram 6 Thanks to her training, the pop star was able to save both her daughters lives Credit: stjohn_ambulance/Instagram Using her first aid knowlegde, Myleene sprung into action. 'I turned her upside down, well, not literally, but she was small enough that I could lay her across my forearm," she said. "I gave her a firm back blow and eventually she vomited it up,' she added. "Then she just toddled off as if nothing had happened. I was left a complete wreck.' Your sign to get trained Myleene's first aid training also helped her save her other daughter, Ava, during a choking incident when she was a tween. Both "terrfiying" experiences drove her to earn a more professional qualification with St John Ambulance, she said. In a post she shared on Instagram in June of herself doing the training and wearing the first aid uniform, she wrote: "The only thing worse would have been not knowing what to do. "I had done first aid, but now I wanted to learn it to a more sort of professional level," she explained on the podast. "This might be your sign to get first aid trained." she added. 6 6 The five warning signs your child might be choking According to the NHS, choking is common in young children, especially during play or mealtimes. This is because they often explore objects by putting them in their mouths. Parents are advised to keep small items out of reach, cut food into small pieces, and familiarise themselves with first aid techniques.

Myleene Klass shares daughter's terrifying health ordeal after she 'turned blue'

Myleene Klass has shared a terrifying moment when her daughter, Hero, almost choked to death after finding a small item that she couldn't vocalise had got stuck in her throat Myleene Klass has revealed she was left "hysterical" after a harrowing experience in which her daughter, Hero, turned blue and collapsed from choking. The 47-year-old star opened up on the We're Not Getting Any Younger podcast about the chilling moment involving her child and a dayglo star. The singer and TV presenter, originally of Hear'Say fame, is a mum of three. She shares daughters Ava and Hero with ex-husband Graham Quinn, and a son, Apollo, with her current partner Simon Motson. ‌ This revelation comes amidst news that Myleene has become a certified first aider for St John Ambulance—a decision inspired by an earlier occasion in which she managed to prevent her daughters from choking. ‌ Recounting the distressing event, Myleene said: "Well, it was Hero when she was a baby. She choked on those... you know those dayglo stars that you stick on the ceiling? I can't have them in the house." When asked whether the star had fallen from the ceiling, Myleene clarified: "She found it. She couldn't speak—she was so little. She couldn't even... well, she couldn't speak because she was choking, but she couldn't even vocalise what had happened," she told OK!. Myleene went on to describe the terrifying moment of realisation, saying: "Because she stumbled in holding her like... she stumbled in. And she was so little, so she... she couldn't even speak properly anyway, and her face just went blue and then she just fell on the floor." She recalled that she had been doing the washing up in the kitchen when the incident occurred. After greeting her daughter, she endured what she described as the "longest five minutes of my life." ‌ Myleene said: "I turned her upside down—she was that right age—and I had done first aid, but now I wanted to learn it to a more sort of professional level." She clarified that she didn't mean 'literally' upside down, but rather that Hero was small enough to be supported along her forearm. In that position, Myleene gave her a firm pat to dislodge the object. She explained that the star didn't come out immediately, but Hero eventually vomited it up and then casually "toddled off", while Myleene was left in a state of hysteria. ‌ The NHS advises that choking in children typically occurs during play or mealtimes, as young ones often explore the world by putting items in their mouths. It emphasises that the best prevention is to keep small objects out of reach and to cut food into bite-sized pieces. However, despite precautions, a child may still choke. The NHS provides a detailed guide on how to respond in such situations, including instructions for administering back blows, chest thrusts, and abdominal thrusts, as well as steps to take if a child becomes unconscious. Myleene Klass 'inspired' by Rod Stewart wife Penny Lancaster as she shares career update

More info Myleene Klass has revealed that she was "inspired" by Rod Stewart's wife, Penny Lancaster, as she embarks on an important new role. In a recent episode of the We're Not Getting Any Younger podcast, the former Hear'Say star, 47, opened up about a new medical position that's far removed from the glitzy world of showbiz. Myleene is now a trained first aider for St John Ambulance, reportedly taking up the challenge after she had to save her daughters from choking. However, it seems her new position was also inspired by Penny's work. When quizzed on what she enjoys most about her past or current work, Myleene replied that she's "hungry for challenges" and feels like she's "never satisfied." When asked what she's got planned next, she added:"I mean, look, I've just passed as an official first aider for St John, so I'm going to be going out — as inspired by Penny Lancaster — because she works with the police in her free time." (Image:) Myleene continued:"Yeah, she's amazing. She's amazing, and so then I thought, well — my mum's in the NHS — and I was brought up around doctors, and yeah, I really do think that that's a leveller. "Healthcare's a leveller; everyone should have it, and I think that I don't wanna be the person that doesn't know what to do." However, Myleene added that now, if something happens to her, she's the person in the room who's "screwed," so she feels she has to ensure that others know "what to do" as well. In a post announcing the news on Instagram, Myleene shared photos of herself wearing her uniform near an ambulance. She invited fans to "check out" her "new office" before thanking people for their messages of support. Last year, Myleene became an ambassador for St John, revealing that she had been left "overwhelmed" by the support she received and confessing she hadn't realised how tough the training would be, reports The Standard. (Image: Getty Images) Loose Women panellist Penny has been a special constable with the City of London Police since 2021. She felt inspired to join after appearing in Channel 4's Famous and Fighting Crime. Speaking to the same podcast, the model shared details about her crime-fighting career, including that she had arrested two people for drink and drug-driving, something she found "nerve-wracking". Penny explained that she had to perform the caution correctly or risk the arrest being "thrown out." She said: "It was nerve-wracking because to say the caution for the first time, remember the lines, and do it all correctly — there's a necessity for arrest. And back at the station, when you're talking to the custody sergeant — if you don't do those steps correctly, whatever you've arrested the suspect for can be thrown out."
