MCC staff strike enters fourth day, former CM meets protestors
The ongoing strike of the employees of the Mysuru City Corporation has entered fourth day on Friday, and the agitation has already begun to impact the city's cleanliness with the pourakarmikas staying away from their duties in support of their demands.
The strike was in response to the Statewide agitation of the employees of the city corporations, seeking the extension of the 7th Pay Commission benefits to pourakarmikas, besides other demands.
The members of the Mysuru City Corporation Employees' Association on Friday submitted a memorandum to former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa and urged him to prevail upon the State government to fulfil their demands.
He was accompanied by MP for Shivamogga B.Y. Raghavendra.
Mr. Raghavendra said that Mr. Yediyurappa's visit has brought strength to the protesters, and hoped that it opened the eyes of the Chief Minister to the their demands.
Like the State government employees and officers, the MCC employees are also in need of health schemes such as group insurance schemes and Jyothi Sanjeevani. They also work for the people and deserve such benefits, he said.
Mr. Raghavendra said the BJP State unit President B.Y. Vijayendra and Leader of Opposition R. Ashok have taken up their cause and will prevail upon the government to fulfill their demands. 'Being the MP, I urge the Chief Minister to look into their demands.'
Heaps of garbage remain uncollected near the Devaraja Market where large quantities of waste were generated, as the civic workers have stayed away from work.
The MCC employees have demanded that the benefits of the Karnataka Government Insurance Department, Group Insurance Scheme, and General Provident Fund, like they are provided to the State government employees, without any modification, besides Jyothi Sanjeevani health scheme.
The protesting employees said the officers and employees of the city corporations were deprived of promotions for many years and urged the government to consider promotions. They have also sought an amendment to cadre and recruitment rules.
