Evaton's Kenneth Zakathi nominated for national award
EVATON.- Born and raised in the heart of Evaton, Kenneth Zakathi has grown into one of Sedibeng's most powerful voices — and now he's been nominated for Inspirational Speaker of the Year at the prestigious Big Up Awards 2025. Zakathi's journey has been nothing short of remarkable. From his early days as a guest on Thetha FM with the late Daniel Dez Rakgokgo, he used the microphone not just for entertainment, but for transformation. He became a source of encouragement for families, young people, and the broader community in the Vaal Triangle and beyond. Driven by purpose and compassion, he went on to lead a life skills programme across ten schools in the Vaal, helping reshape the lives of ill-disciplined learners. Many of those once-troubled students are now pursuing meaningful, purpose-driven futures thanks to the seeds he planted. In 2021, his impact was nationally recognised when he was nominated for Best Radio Presenter at the Mzansi Arts and Media Awards (MAMA) — a powerful reminder that local voices can carry national influence. Most recently, Zakathi sat down with SABC's Channel Africa for an interview that moved millions across South Africa. His message was clear, bold, and filled with hope: 'I believe in the beauty of dreams. Nothing is impossible.' Zakathi is the founder of Family Restoration, a movement focused on healing families and restoring communities. He is an accomplished speaker, radio professional, author of four books (Family Foundations, The Patriarchs, I Do, and the 10-Day Family Devotional), and a visionary for national transformation through faith, family, and leadership. 'This nomination is a reflection of our community's heartbeat. Let's bring this award home to the Vaal — together.' Zakathi is calling on everyone who has been touched by his work to cast their votes. One vote can shift the nation. Local Potch DJ wins Best Amapiano Single award
Tshepiso Mogorosi (22), best known by his stage name Ta Lokii, has won the Best Amapiano Single at the Mzansi Arts and Media Awards. The awards took place on April 26 at Bedrock Valley in Hammanskraal, Pretoria. He was a former learner at Ditaelong Primary School and Boitshoko High School and started his music career in 2016 in Grade Seven. 'My mother's family and also Mr. Stephen Nonzaba managed to help me with the funds and contributed to the transport,' Ta Lokii says. 'I have to thank God for making me arrive in time at Temba Stadium. About 21km from the stadium, the car started to overheat. Luckily, we managed to arrive before the event began.' Ta Lokii says the experience was memorable. He managed to see some of the TikTok influencers like Dikuku Bester (who was nominated for Best Comedian) and Ta Gee The Crazy (who was also nominated in the same category). 'The moment when they called my name for the Best Amapiano single, I was super happy, I shed tears of joy because it was my first nomination and first award. I thanked my co-producer (Djy King Amo SA), my mother, and my supporters who took their money to buy airtime and voted for me.' Ta Lokii says he has big plans for the future. 'My plans for the future are to see myself and my co-producer (Djy King Amo SA) having our own big studio where we work with the best producers in the province. Also, my future plans are to get more promotion and marketing so that I can see myself playing in huge places/ events like Blk Lounge, Dj Zodi One Man Show, and Big Daddy Events.'
