Mandya district in-charge Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy on Monday said that agricultural activities in the State has peaked, and farmers are quite enthusiastic because the reservoirs are full owing to vigorous monsoon. Speaking at a programme organised to offer 'Bagina' or a traditional thanksgiving to the river goddess at the Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) on Monday, the Minister said that all reservoirs, including the KRS, in the Cauvery basin are full or nearing their maximum level, and the agricultural activities are in full swing which is a positive development, he said. The Minister said that the government was committed to protecting the interest of the farmers. Giving an impetus to agriculture, the government has sanctioned an agricultural university for Mandya, which is heavily reliant on agriculture. The government has also given permission to start a private agricultural college in Adichunchanagiri, the Minister added. MLA for Srirangapatna Ramesh Bandisidde Gowda said that for the first time in the recorded history, the dam has attained its maximum level of 124.80 ft. in June, and the Chief Minister has offered the traditional thanksgiving. Apart from the KRS, the Mettur dam in Tamil Nadu has also reached its full level and hence several issues pertaining to sharing of water has been solved for this year, Mr. Gowda said. Referring to irrigation works in Srirangapatna, Mr. Gowda said the government has sanctioned ₹150 crore for the development of canals and repair works. 'The Chikkadevaraja Sagar canal, Ramaswamy canal, and other main channels in the district have already been developed, and the works in the distributary canals were pending,' he said, adding that these works have to be taken up to link the distributary canals to the main canals. Minister for Social Welfare H.C. Mahadevappa, Minister for Minor Irrigation Boseraju, Minister for Sericulture K. Venkatesh, MLCs Madhu Made Gowda and Dinesh Gooli Gowda, and others were present.

Mandya district in-charge Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy on Friday announced that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will offer 'bagina' (traditional offering) at the Krishnaraja Sagar reservoir on June 30, as the dam has reached its full reservoir level. Addressing a review meeting in Mandya, the Minister said the Chief Minister is scheduled to arrive at the KRS around 10.30 a.m. to offer prayers to the Cauvery and perform the ritual. He told officials that there should no lapses in the preparation and instructed them to make arrangements, including security. The Minister distributed laptops to Village Administrative Officers (VAOs), as the government has provided laptops to all 185 VAOs in the district to facilitate e-office functioning. He emphasised that all government work in district and taluk administration should be carried out transparently and efficiently through the e-office system. Under the Bhoosuraksha scheme, digitisation of land records is under way in taluk offices. MLAs Ramesh Babu Bandisidde Gowda and P. Ravikumar, Deputy Commissioner Kumar, Zilla Panchayat CEO K.R. Nandini and others were present.

Minister inaugurates key development projects in Karnataka's K.R. Pet

Minister-in-charge of Mandya district and Karnataka Agriculture Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy on Tuesday launched a series of development works worth several crores across Karnataka's K.R. Pet taluk. The projects, aimed at boosting infrastructure in the taluk, include educational facilities, student hostels, a power substation, a bus stand, and farmer support centres. ₹1.13-crore college block At Santhebachahalli, the Minister inaugurated newly constructed classroom blocks at the Government Pre-University College, built at a cost of ₹1.13 crore through CSR funding. Speaking on the occasion, he emphasised the critical role of industry in supporting education and healthcare sectors, and urged students to dedicate more time to academics. He called upon teachers to prepare students for improved performance in next year's SSLC and PUC examinations. Delta Water and Infra Solutions chief Mruthyunjaya Swamy, whose firm funded the construction, was felicitated on the occasion. ₹3.26-crore girls hostel A new post-matric girls hostel, constructed at a cost of ₹3.26 crore by the Department of Backward Classes Welfare in Jalasuru, was also inaugurated. The Minister directed officials to ensure quality food and proper upkeep of the hostel, and urged students to maintain hygiene and cleanliness. ₹10-crore power substation To strengthen the electricity supply network in the area, a ₹10 crore 66/11 kV power substation was commissioned in Beeruvalli. ₹1.25-crore bus stand in Akki Hebbalu The Minister also inaugurated a newly constructed KSRTC bus stand in Akki Hebbalu, built at a cost of ₹1.25 crore. The facility includes three commercial shops, a canteen, a traffic control room, women's rest area, adequate seating, drinking water supply, and separate restrooms for men and women. Around 80 daily bus trips will now operate from this bus-stand, connecting towns including Mysuru, K.R. Pet, Bherya, Hunsur, and Nagamangala. Farmer centre and educational blocks A ₹60 lakh Farmer Facilitation Centre was also inaugurated in Akki Hebbalu, followed by the opening of additional classrooms at the local Government PU College, constructed at a cost of ₹75 lakh. Boys' hostel In Jayanagar, a new boys' hostel constructed by the Department of Backward Classes Welfare at a cost of ₹3.26 crore was inaugurated. In K.R. Pet town, the Minister unveiled several academic infrastructure projects, including additional classrooms at the polytechnic college (₹1.75 crore); new library block at the Government Engineering College (₹2.40 crore), modern canteen and additional academic buildings at the same college (₹2.40 crore). The Minister interacted with students, encouraging them to make full use of the library and academic resources. He also had lunch at the new canteen facility, marking its formal inauguration. K.R. Pet MLA H.T. Manju, Mysugar Chairman C.D. Gangadhar, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Kumar, Zilla Panchayat CEO K.R. Nandini, and officials from various departments, including agriculture, education, and police, were present.

Minister in-charge of Mandya district N. Cheluvarayaswamy on Tuesday said that the district administration is making sincere efforts to resolve various public grievances in accordance with legal procedures. 'The State government's five guarantee schemes are being implemented in a non-partisan manner, without any discrimination based on caste or community. Benefits are being extended to all eligible citizens,' he said after inaugurating the Janaspandana (public interaction) programme held at K.R. Pet. Mr. Cheluvarayaswamy further said that public representatives have initiated several development works. He noted that the Mysugar factory is being revitalised, and a new agricultural university is also being set up in Mandya to boost the farming sector. 'More than 20,000 revenue-related cases have been resolved in the past two years. The State government is also working on simplifying rules related to e-Khata, e-Swathu, and B-Swathu to make services more accessible to the public,' the Minister added.

Mango glut: CM Siddaramaiah asks Agriculture Minister to hold talks with Centre to seek compensation

The Karnataka Cabinet on Thursday (June 19, 2024) discussed the financial crisis faced by mango growers following crash in prices in the market and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah asked Agriculture Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy to hold talks with Union Minister for Agriculture Shivraj Singh Chouhan to seek compensation to growers. Mango prices plummeted from ₹12,000 per quintal to ₹3,000 per quintal, the government said. Briefing the Cabinet decisions after the meeting, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H.K. Patil said the Chief Minister asked Mr. Cheluvarayaswamy to go to Delhi if necessary to seek compensation from the Centre or procurement of the crop from farmers from the Central agencies such as NAFED and NCCF. A few days ago, Mr. Siddaramaiah had appealed to the Centre to take urgent steps to help mango farmers of the State as fruit prices had dropped sharply this season. In a letter to Mr. Chouhan, Mr Siddaramaiah, who will be in Delhi on Friday (June 20, 2025), requested the Centre to start a Price Deficiency Payment and Market Intervention Scheme and start immediate procurement though central agencies such as NAFED and NCCF to support farmers and stop further distress in rural areas. Mango is one of Karnataka's major horticultural crops, cultivated over an area of 1.39 lakh hectares, with an estimated production of 8-10 lakh tonnes during the Rabi season.
