Denial of rightful share of wealth to the deserving might trigger revolution: Santosh Hegde

Former Lokayukta N. Santosh Hegde on Sunday, June 8, said the country might witness a revolution if the deserving people do not get rightful share of wealth for which they are entitled to. When scams to the tune of thousands of crores rupees take place, the country would not witness development and also peace would not prevail, he said. Mr. Hegde was responding after receiving Late George Fernandes Memorial Award instituted by Jayashreekrishna Parisara Premi Samithi in Udupi. Humanity had been the value built by the elders. It was required to ensure peace in society, Mr. Hegde said. If there was injustice or social unrest in society, the society itself was responsible for the mess. While the society used to penalise wrongdoers in earlier days, it is now behind power and money, he said. He regretted citing examples persons accused in criminal activities being felicitated after are released on bail. If the society had boycotted wrongdoers, the right ones would have got recognition, he said. Everyone has the duty to bring in social change to tell people to earn money through legal ways and not by snatching from someone else's pockets. Greed was the root cause for all the injustice in society, he said. Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Kota Srinivas Poojary presented the award to Mr. Hegde. Samithi president Nityananda D. Kotian, MLC Ivan D'Souza, former MLC Capt. Ganesh Karnik, Samithi founder Jayashreekrishna Shetty A. Shetty and others were present.
