America's ‘Most Boring' Cities List Sparks Outrage From Local Newsrooms
The phrase 'I'm bored' used to get me in some real trouble when I was young. It was my mom's ultimate pet-peeve. But a new study from Finance Buzz - that's caught the attention of numerous local news outlets, proves I wasn't alone. The list, which named America's top-20 most boring cities, has gone viral. WCNC – Charlotte, North Carolina's local NBC-affiliate – received plenty of responses to its Instagram post discussing the study. Charlotte checked in at No. 20 on the list, for what it's worth. What's America's No. 1 most boring city you are likely asking? Well, according to Finance Buzz, that would be Jacksonville, Florida. "Been living in Jax for 3 years…ain't no way it's NUMBER ONE on this list," a local replied. An Instagram page dedicated to the state of Arizona took offense as well to Phoenix being ranked number 10. "Yet everyone wants to move here," replied a user. Memphis, Tennessee, which checked in at No. 5, saw one of its city-dedicated Instagram pages make a post as well. "How is that possible with their history and culture as well as the music that it's known for?" asked a user. According to Finance Buzz, it considered population makeup, culinary scene, outdoor activities, nightlife and signature events and attractions in its evaluation of cities. Clearly, though, locals of the cities included in the list couldn't disagree more with the findings. Girl, 9, recalls moment she ‘picked up hand' & ‘started screaming' in horror shark attack as dad says ‘miracle' happened

Leah Lendel underwent a six-hour surgery to repair her hand that was left "hanging by skin" after she was mauled by an eight-foot shark off Boca Grande beach in Florida on June 11. Credit: ABC News 9 Leah's mom said her daughter's 'instincts kicked in' and she ran out of the bloody water Credit: ABC NEWS "Something hard bit me and then tried to tug me away," she said at a news conference at Tampa General Hospital. While flanked by her parents and doctors, Leah recalled how she and her mom started screaming when they realized what happened. "I didn't see anything. I was just snorkeling," she said. "I went up to breathe. And then, something hard bit me and tried to take me away. "Then I pick up my hand and is all in blood. I start screaming with my mom". Nadia, Leah's mom, told reporters how she thought her daughter had lost a limb, saying "It was really, really bad" and that she didn't think her daughter "was going to have a hand." "It's some sort of miracle that now she has a hand," she added. "There was so much blood in the water right next to me, in an instant I knew it's a shark attack," Nadia said, adding that her daughter's "instincts kicked in". Leah ran out of the water where she was picked up by her dad and taken to the road where people rushed to help. "We [saw] that little girl come out from the water with no hand, it was... like everybody was in shock," eyewitness Alfonso Tello who was on a lunch break at the beach told NBC-affiliate WBBH. You can see bones all completely red". A frantic 911 call revealed how those nearby wrapped towels around Leah's hand that was "completely destroyed" and put her arm in a tourniquet to stem the bleeding. Within four minutes, responders from the Boca Grande Fire Department were on scene and she was flown two hours to Tampa General. MIRACLE WORKERS Leah's doctors told reporters how there was a six-hour window for them to save her hand from the moment she was mauled by the shark. Statement from Leah Lendel's family following the shark attack Nine-year-old Leah experienced a terrifying and life-altering event. Her family has issued the following statement following the suspected bull shark attack in Boca Grande, Florida: "We want to say Thank You to everyone that is praying for our sweet Leah. "We are thankful for the quick response of everyone that was on scene, the construction workers, residents that ran out to help and the first responders and to all the Doctors/Nurses that are doing everything to help our girl. "Yesterday Leah had an extensive surgery on her hand (wrist & fingers). "The Doctors, were able to get blood flow to her hand and fingers. "She is showing some movement in two fingers but can't feel the rest. "The doctors will be doing another procedure tomorrow to see if there is anything else that needs to be done. "The fact that Leah has all her fingers attached is already a testimony. "From witnessing her wrist hanging on by just the skin, to have blood flow in all of her hand and fingers is truly a miracle. "Please keep praying for our family, our God is a miracle worker." Less than an hour after she arrived at the hospital, she was in surgery where they had to stabilize the bone and take blood vessels from her leg to help restore blood flow to her hand. "I was trying to hold myself together, Leah's dad Jay said. "I think I was crying more than she was." An x-ray of her hand shows how the skin, muscles, and bones in her hand were severed almost all the way across the middle. Leah will still need physical therapy and to have the pins in her hand removed but her parents say they are "just thankful for everybody". "I didn't think it was possible because I was holding her hand in my hand and I didn't think there was any chance at all of saving it," he said. "I'm so thankful to the surgeons for making such a miracle." "I'm just very thankful she's alive," Jay added. Leah said could not wait to start "playing with all my siblings" once her wounds healed. Her family launched a GoFundMe page to help with her recovery which has received over $47,700 at the time of writing. Abilene TV station damaged, knocked off air by storm
AUSTIN (KXAN) — A severe storm late Sunday damaged a TV station north of Abilene, Texas, according to the station's social media account. Pictures posted by KTXS show damage to a section of the station's roof and walls. Another picture shows a steel tower lying on the ground. KXAN sister station KTAB posted a gallery showing the storm's aftermath, including photos of KTXS. The station said that none of its employees were injured during the storm. Time codes on the social media posts suggest that the station was hit after 11 p.m. Sunday. KTXS Meteorologist Mark Rowlett said in a social media post that the damage was caused by strong winds. The damage knocked the station off-air, he said. KTXS is a Sinclair-owned station and ABC affiliate that covers the Abilene area. Executive departure: David Leavy is returning to Warner Bros Discovery after a two-year stint at CNN as its chief operating officer. In a note to staffers, CNN chairman and CEO Mark Thompson said: 'David arrived at CNN in tumultuous times and did a brilliant job stabilizing the company at a difficult moment.' Leavy's direct reports will be split between Thompson and other CNN executives. Also leaving the network is Haley Talbot, who will be joining Punchbowl News as the director of editorial video strategy. While at CNN, Talbot was a reporter and producer covering Capitol Hill. CNN is also losing Brian Rokus, who is joining C-SPAN as a producer for Book TV, where he will produce special programming and series for the network's dedicated audience of non-fiction book lovers. Rokus spent 25 years at CNN, most recently overseeing the evening newsgathering operation for its Washington, D.C. bureau. In non-departure news, the network announced that Zachary Cohen is being promoted to senior reporter on the Pentagon team. Cohen previously served as a national security writer and reporter for CNN Politics. Justice O'Donnell: NBC News is promoting Kelly O'Donnell to chief justice and national affairs correspondent. In this role, she will lead the network's coverage of the Justice Department for all platforms. O'Donnell was previously the network's senior White House correspondent. New additions: MSNBC announced a pair of new hires with Keith Dilanian and Erielle Reshef joining the network in Washington, D.C. and New York City, respectively. Dilanian is MSNBC's justice correspondent, while Reshef joins as a national correspondent and fill-in anchor. Dilanian joins MSNBC from NBC News, where he has been a justice and intelligence correspondent since 2023. Reshef was previously with ABC News as a national correspondent. NYC Bound: Fox Weather is welcoming Bayne Froney as its newest on-air meteorologist based at Fox Weather HQ in New York City. Forney was previously with the NBC-affiliate WLEX-TV in Lexington, Kentucky. "I'm looking forward to working with the talented group of meteorologists at Fox Weather," Fornery said.

Bride Worries She's Been Scammed Out of $8,000 After Wedding Venue Cancels Her Booking 3 Weeks Before Ceremony
Bride-to-be Chelsea Kolman is worried she's been scammed after paying $8,000 before a company canceled her wedding venue reservation just three weeks before her big day "As time got closer we would message her and it would be two or three weeks before she'd respond," Kolman, of Versailles, Kentucky, told NBC-affiliated station WLEX's LEX 18 of attempting to contact the host Kolman booked The Farm, LLC through the vacation rentals booking platform VRBO, but received her cancellation email from the venue. In a statement to PEOPLE, The Farm, LLC stated that Kolman has received "information on refund or rebooking options" A bride-to-be had to search for a last-minute wedding venue after reportedly having her booking canceled just a few weeks before her special day. Chelsea Kolman, of Versailles, Ky., is worried that she's been scammed after allegedly paying The Farm, LLC $8,000 outside of VRBO, which was the vacation rentals booking platform she used. Kolman told local NBC-affiliate station WLEX's LEX 18 that, "As time got closer we would message her and it would be two or three weeks before she'd respond," regarding her attempts to contact the host. The bride-to-be claimed her booking was canceled by the company on April 17, just 21 days before she was set to tie the knot, the outlet noted. The wedding date is listed as Saturday, May 10. Kolman was reportedly told by the host to contact VRBO for a refund, per LEX 18. She said she'd received an email saying their reservation had been canceled by the booking platform, but claimed the message actually came from The Farm, LLC. When she reached out to VRBO, Kolman — who said she'd seen a mix of reviews after doing a bit of research into the host — was told the booking still existed, the outlet reported. "It really is like a Russian roulette sort of thing," Kolman said of seeing both positive and negative reviews, per LEX 18. "It's just enough to make you believe it's not too good to be true, it's a real thing." "I'm kind of encouraging people to beware, and you shouldn't have a thought in your head like this could be a scam, but now I'm telling people you gotta look out because it happens," she added to the outlet. The site pointed out that in January 2024, the company "filed for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the federal Bankruptcy Act." "This permits the business to continue to operate with court supervision while developing a plan of reorganization," the site reported. The Farm, LLC's website states it is currently being improved, and the company encourages anyone interested in their venues to visit their "VRBO listings" in the meantime. The business still appears to have multiple venues in Kentucky and one in Tennessee, per the site. WTVD previously confirmed The Farm, LLC had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, reporting in May 2024 that multiple couples had been affected after planning their wedding at The Champion Estate at the Triangle in Durham County, North Carolina. It appears that the property is no longer managed by The Farm, LLC, per the listings on the business' website. PEOPLE reached out to The Farm, LLC for comment on the situation, to which the team stated: "The Farm LLC is a hospitality company committed to ensuring our guests have an extraordinary experience. Whether it's a family reunion, a wedding, or a simple staycation –we want every guest to feel taken care of, but when they aren't – we're here to make it right. A recent convergence of events involving company restructuring, booking vendors, and market dynamics led to some guest cancellations." "Guests affected to date have been notified of any changes in itinerary and they have received information on refund or rebooking options," the venue continued. "Guests who have not yet executed on those options, including the guest highlighted in your story, are still welcome to do so at their earliest convenience.
