UAE's NCM records 6.3 magnitude earthquake in southern Philippines
A powerful earthquake shook the southern Philippines early Saturday morning, June 28, with tremors also recorded by seismic stations in the UAE. According to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), a 6.3-magnitude earthquake was detected in the Philippines at 3.07am UAE time. However, in the Philippines, authorities confirmed the tremor as a magnitude 6.1 earthquake that struck off the coast of Davao Occidental at 7.07am local time. The quake prompted residents to evacuate homes as tremors were felt across several provinces. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) initially measured the quake at magnitude 6.9 but later downgraded it to 6.1. The epicentre was located 85km southeast of Sarangani town, with a depth of 79 km. The quake was tectonic in nature. Despite the intensity of the tremors, Phivolcs confirmed that there is no tsunami threat linked to the seismic activity.

UAE weather tomorrow: Fair to party cloudy day, 43°C maximum in Dubai
The weather in the UAE on Saturday, June 28, is expected to be fair to partly cloudy in general, with clouds appearing eastward by afternoon, according to the copuntry's National Center of Meteorology (NCM). It will be humid by Saturday night and Sunday morning over some coastal areas. Light to moderate southwesterly to northwesterly winds, freshening at times, are expected, with a speed of 10–20kmph, reaching 35kmph. The sea will be slight in the Arabian Gulf and in Oman Sea. Temperatures in Dubai is expected to range between 32°C minimum and 43°C maximum, while in Abu Dhabi it will be between 30°C and 40°C. Temperatures in Sharjah will range between 30°C and 44°C. The highest temperature recorded over the country on Friday, June 27, was 49.9°C in Sweihan (Al Ain) at 2pm UAE local time.

Winds will be light to moderate, occasionally becoming fresh at times, contributing to slightly breezy conditions in open areas, blowing at 10 to 20 km/h, occasionally reaching up to 35 km/h. Both the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman will experience slight sea conditions, making it generally safe for marine activities.

Saudi Arabia braces for hotter summer and increased rainfall in July and August
The National Center for Meteorology ( NCM ) has forecast higher-than-average temperatures across central, northern, and eastern Saudi Arabia during the peak summer months of July and August. The seasonal climate update, released through the Saudi Press Agency , is based on weather data collected between 1991 and 2020. According to the NCM, as the Saudi Gazette reports, temperatures in Riyadh, Qassim, Hail, the Eastern Province, and the Northern Borders region are expected to rise by at least 1 degree Celsius in July. In August, the temperature is expected to reach 1.2 degrees Celsius in Jouf, Tabuk, Qassim, Hail, and the eastern regions. The report also forecasts above-normal rainfall in several southern and western regions. These include Najran, Jazan, Al-Baha, Asir, and parts of Makkah and Madinah, south Riyadh, and the eastern areas. Rainfall in other parts of the Kingdom is expected to remain within the normal seasonal range. Live Events The summer forecast reflects the Kingdom's long-term climate and recent weather trends. For example, Jeddah recorded the country's highest-ever June temperature at 52°C in 2010. Al-Ahsa saw a record high of 51.3°C in July 2024, while Dammam and Al-Qaisumah reached 51°C in August 1998 and 2021, respectively. In terms of rainfall, the southwestern region of Jazan experienced the heaviest one-day rainfall in August 2024, recording 113 millimetres. Jazan also held the record for July, with 67.6 millimetres in 1995. Sharurah, located in Najran province, recorded 53.8 millimetres of rain in a single day in June 1996, the highest for that month. Due to the extreme heat expected during the summer, Saudi authorities enforce bans on working under direct sunlight during specific hours to ensure worker safety, as reported by Arab News.

NCM Forecast: Several Saudi Regions To Witness Temperatures 1.2 °C Above Average In August
The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) revealed on Wednesday that climate forecasts for the summer of 2025 in Saudi Arabia indicate that temperatures will be 1.2 degrees Celsius above average in several regions of the Kingdom during the month of August. The NCM explained that probable forecasts indicate that average surface temperatures will be above average across most regions of the Kingdom during the summer of 2025. The increase is expected to reach approximately 1 degree Celsius in the regions of Riyadh, Qassim, Hail, the Eastern Province, and the Northern Borders, while the increase is expected to be less than 1 degree Celsius in the rest of the regions. It added that the highest increase above average will reach 1.2 degrees Celsius in parts of Al-Jouf, Hail, Qassim, Tabuk, and the Eastern Province during August. According to the center, rainfall is expected to be around average across most regions of the Kingdom. Rainfall in July and August is expected to be above average in the regions of Jazan, Al-Baha, Najran, Asir, as well as parts of Madinah, Makkah, and the southwestern parts of the Kingdom. The NCM indicated that rainfall is expected to be around average in Riyadh and the rest of the regions.
