Little Dutch delight for Kaizer Chiefs
JOHANNESBURG - Grey clouds and rain proved an appropriate backdrop for Kaizer Chiefs as they completed a disappointing pre-season tour of the Netherlands by losing 2-1 to FC Twente. Chiefs, winners of a record 53 domestic trophies in South Africa, triumphed in only one of five friendly matches on a pre-season of the Netherlands. The Johannesburg outfit beat PEC Zwolle 1-0 but lost to Vitesse (2-1), Utrecht (4-0), NEC Nijmegen (1-0) and FC Twente. Chiefs hired Tunisian coach Nasreddine Nabi last season and he ended a 10-year trophy drought by winning the South African FA Cup, but they finished a disappointing ninth in the 16-club Premiership. In other football news, African club champions Pyramids have lost ace forward Ibrahim Adel. Adel, whose six goals help Pyramids become surprise winners of the 2024/25 CAF Champions League in only their second appearance, is moving to United Arab Emirates club Al Jazira. The 24-year-old missed the first leg of the final against Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa through injury, but recovered to come off the bench in the return match.

NEC Nijmegen string-puller set for difficult contract decision
As per VoetbalPrimeur, there is a real uncertainty regarding Dirk Proper and whether he will extend his expiring contract with NEC Nijmegen. The 23-year-old midfielder is in talks with the club, but admits that he also hopes to make a transfer sooner or later. Initially, Director Carlos Aalbers was hoping for a quick agreement with Proper at the beginning of July. 'We're in talks and we'll see what comes of it,' the NEC man responded to the Gelderlander cameras. He acknowledged that a contract extension isn't an easy decision. Advertisement 'Sooner or later, of course, someone wants to make a move, and you have to take that into account. I think NEC are a fantastic club, and that will always be the case, but as a player, you only have a certain time in your career, and at some point you have to make sure you make a move,' Proper continues about his considerations. 'NEC have a vested interest in that, too. They want to keep me to make money off me. That's their right. And if I may describe my ideal situation, that's naturally what you'd prefer.' Proper admits it's a real dilemma. 'You can ask anyone with a contract in its final year. These are things you think about, and that's really difficult, that decision. I can't say much about that. These are things I have to discuss with Carlos and see if we can find a solution.' Proper remains quiet about interest from other clubs. 'I'm not making any statements about that either,' he laughs. The midfielder suffered a concussion at the end of last season, causing him to miss the European Championship with the Dutch U21s. He has since recovered. GBeNeFN | Max Bradfield

Kaizer Chiefs suffer third straight defeat in Dutch pre-season tour
Kaizer Chiefs have lost their third pre-season match in a row after going 1-0 to NEC Nijmegen at Overasselt on Saturday afternoon. Having lost 2-1 to Vitesse and 4-0 to FC Utrecht, Amakhosi coach Nasreddine Nabi made changes to his team against Nijmegen. Zitha Kwinika, Gaston Sirino, Samkelo Zwane, George Matlou, Tashreeq Morris, and Pule Momodi all got their first starts of the pre-season matches. Despite putting in a spirited performance, Amakhosi eventually conceded a late goal to see the Dutch side emerge victorious. Having lost three matches, Nabi will surely notice that his team's weakness is in defence. Amakhosi have conceded seven goals in three matches so far in their pre-season tour. With two matches to go, the Tunisian coach need to find the right combination at the back. In all the three matches, he started with Brandon Petersen in goals but the 30-year-old has looked shaky at times. The Glamour Boys have only scored once in 270 minutes of football since arriving in the Netherlands. New striker Flavio Silva has failed to fire in the games he played so far and looked unconvincing with the ball at his feet. The good thing is that Nabi still has another six weeks to sort his team out. So far, only a handful of players have showed up during the pre-season matches. Up next, Kaizer Chiefs will play PEC Zwolle on Tuesday before concluding their pre-season tour with a match against FC Twente. Ten Hag gets Dutch support: Bayer Leverkusen announces arrival of former NEC Nijmegen boss
Erik ten Hag's staff at Bayer Leverkusen will be bolstered by the arrival of Rogier Meijer. Andries Ulderink will also join the Dutch trainer's team. Meijer left NEC Nijmegen in May, where he had worked successfully as head coach for five years. Shortly after this, the 43-year-old coach was linked to Germany with a role as Ten Hag's assistant. Leverkusen announced that that will indeed happen, with Meijer reporting to the training complex on Monday. Advertisement The same goes for Ulderink. He worked as head coach at Go Ahead Eagles, De Graafschap, and, until recently, Royal Antwerp. For a while, he seemed on his way to Ajax Cape Town, but a position as one of Ten Hag's right-hand men is his preference. GBeNeFN | Max Bradfield
