Things got competitive on the spring practice field for the New England Patriots during the offseason.
The latest Forged in Foxborough trailer captured a brief exchange on the field between quarterback Drake Maye and veteran cornerback Carlton Davis III during an 11-on-11 period.
Davis could be seen blanketing wide receiver Kendrick Bourne on a route. Maye saw that the receiver was covered and went to the next read, leaving a jokingly frustrated Davis shouting out to him throughout the play.
"Throw it, throw the [expletive] ball. Throw the ball," Davis shouted.
It was obviously friendly competition between teammates, and it will likely get even more competitive when the pads come on at training camp.
"You didn't wanna give me that one over there?" Davis asked Maye after the play.
Maye promptly responded, "I see you."
The thought of iron sharpening iron should only mean good things for Maye and the Patriots' offense. They will have their hands full at training camp against a much-improved defense with Davis and All-Pro cornerback Christian Gonzalez flanking the outside receivers.
If the offense can make plays against that cornerback tandem, they should feel confident in their ability to make plays against anyone in the NFL.
