Draper boost as Newtown complete move for ex-TNS striker
NEWTOWN Football Club have completed a transfer coup on the eve of the new JD Cymru North season. The Robins have swooped to sign striker Greg Draper who arrives with a reputation as one of the recent JD Cymru Premier greats following a glittering career with TNS. The 35 year old departed TNS in 2021 and had a spell at JD Cymru North side Guilsfield before returning to Park Hall where he has continued to represent the Oswestry club's reserve side. Now, Draper has been re-united with ex-Guilsfield boss Nathan Leonard at Latham Park and joins Tom Jones in the line-up following his loan move from TNS. Draper scored 163 goals in 252 appearances for the Saints between 2011 and 2021 while also helping the club to nine league titles and five Welsh Cup triumphs.

Newtown snap up ex-England schoolboy starlet Theo Ezea
NEWTOWN Football Club manager Nathan Leonard is relishing the forthcoming JD Cymru North season. The ex-Guilsfield boss has been tasked with steadying the ship at Latham Park following last season's relegation from the JD Cymru Premier and Leonard is full of confidence. This week saw ex-England schoolboy international Theo Ezea make the switch from Salop Leisure Premier League club Ellesmere Rangers while winger Tom Jones has joined on loan from JD Cymru Premier champions TNS. Leonard said: "Theo is a great young talent with huge potential while Tom Jones has signed on loan from TNS and will be a massive threat going forward. "There will be two or three more signings before the window closes, we know what we are lacking and the players coming in will push us on further." Leonard insisted nobody at Latham Park would be taking promotion for granted after bookies made the Robins joint-second favourites to win the league. Leonard said: "We are in no doubt how tough the league will be this season but the energy and work rate shown against TNS hasn't been seen at the club for a while now and it's a great base to work from. "Considering we've lost 15 players from last seasons squad I'm really really happy with the group assembled and we have the potential to have a great season."

Newtown snap up teenager Starkey-Jones after Shrewsbury exit
NEWTOWN Football Club has completed the signing of teenage midfielder Findlay Starkey-Jones. The 18-year-old attacking has joined Newtown following his release from Shrewsbury Town this summer. During his time at Shrewsbury, Starkey-Jones was part of the club's youth setup and featured as a trialist in pre-season friendlies, including a match against Brackley Town in July 2024. In the 2023–24 season, Starkey-Jones gained senior experience on loan at OJM Black Country, a club competing in the Midland Football League. Meanwhile midfielder Rob Evans has committed to the Robins for another season. The 30 year old ex-Wrexham and AFC Telford United players' decision provides a boost to manager Nathan Leonard as he strives to ensure experience in the ranks following the departure of a host of key players following relegation from the JD Cymru Premier. A club spokesman said: "Robbie has become a key figure in the heart of Newtown's midfield since joining the club, and his decision to commit his future to the Robins is a huge statement of intent. "His experience, work ethic, and passion for the badge continue to make him a fan favourite and a respected presence in the dressing room."
