Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes comments on incredible catch at NFL FLAG Championships
This week, Chiefs Wire's Ed Easton Jr. spoke to Alexia Gallagher, Executive Director of the NFL Foundation, and Stephanie Kwok, the head of Flag Football, to discuss the impactful youth development through flag football. "NFL FLAG-In-School, we want to ensure that underserved youth have every opportunity to play and that we're helping to level the playing field," said Gallagher, "Those teachers have access to all the resources available to stay healthy and fit. We believe that playing flag football is one of the best ways to do that. When we talk about youth health and wellness and how our campaign was focused on physical wellness, over the years, we expanded our youth health and wellness work to include mental wellness as well, and really to ensure that our work supports the whole child so physically through grant partnerships like the one that we have with GENYOUth on the NFL FLAG-In-School program." The Kansas City Chiefs often highlight youth flag football teams in the community, promoting the sport and its impact on the future. All players in the program have the opportunity to learn from legendary NFL athletes and staff. Patrick Mahomes was one of the many on social media commenting on an incredible touchdown reception during a boys' flag football game on Saturday. "There's so many NFL players that grew up playing flag football that it was a part of their elementary school days, even beyond into middle school as well," said Kwok, "So I think hearing when they share that experience, when they share that they play flag football, that it helps with their early exposure to football, and it helps with their skills development, that's a route that you can take. You can start with flag football, you can move on from there to tackle football, to either playing in the NFL, and then also, though, now there's that opportunity right for women to play football through flag football, and that's an opportunity that they didn't have before. Now, you can play in high school, you can play in college, and you can play in the Olympics alongside men and NFL players. I think that's what's special about flag football. You see everyone playing flag football, from NFL players to our current national flag team players to college and high school players, to just kids in gym and physical education class. That's what shows, I think, how truly accessible and inclusive it is." NFL FLAG-In-School is a critical entry point for millions of students to get moving in school. By providing free flag football equipment and a standards-based curriculum to schools, the program empowers educators to motivate students with a fun and inclusive activity designed for all skill levels.

NFL FLAG-In-School, GENYOUth impact Kansas City Chiefs youth flag football teams
This week, Chiefs Wire's Ed Easton Jr. spoke with Alexia Gallagher, the NFL's Vice President of Philanthropy and Executive Director of the NFL Foundation, to discuss the impact of the Kansas City Chiefs and the rest of the league on the ongoing NFL Flag in School program, in partnership with GENYOUth."Health and wellness are paramount to the NFL Foundation's philanthropic work. We launched our NFL Play 60 campaign to help encourage youngsters to get 60 minutes of daily activity. We also worked with several national nonprofits and science partners, NFL clubs, and players to help address the issue," said Gallagher. "In 2014, the NFL Foundation continued that work and partnered with GENYOUth to help support something they had in mind. It was high-quality physical education opportunities and opportunities for students to be active before, during, and after school. GENYOUth developed this innovative, turnkey approach to help physical education teachers build this foundation of healthy, lifelong physical activity for their students via the NFL Flag in School program. And since then, more than 17 million students have engaged in flag football through the program in schools, thanks to the distribution of flag kits to more than 40,000 school communities across the country."Ten youth flag football teams represent the Kansas City Chiefs at the 2025 NFL FLAG Championships. The franchise hosted a private sendoff event in the Founder's Club at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium to honor the players. The celebration recognized the teams' effort and teamwork. "There's so much excitement around it now, especially with flag football going to be in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, and we're continuing to see demand from schools wanting to participate in this program, and with that, you see a lot of participation," said Gallagher "obviously, from NFL clubs, from NFL players. The NFL Foundation supports many players and legends who host free youth football camps during the offseason. That includes many flag football camps as well. GENYOUth received more applications than ever for NFL FLAG-In-School kits and is delivering a record 5,100 kits to schools nationwide for the upcoming school year, with a particular focus on high-need, underserved communities. This will increase the program's cumulative reach to over 45,000 kits in more than 30,000 schools, impacting over 17 million students. "Many of these kits are distributed to schools in underserved communities. We want to ensure that all students can access this healthy and fun sport regardless of their background. And I would say that a key point here is that the NFL Foundation is committed to supporting the next generation of leaders," said Gallagher. "We want to ensure that our country's youth have access to the resources and tools needed to stay physically healthy, and the NFL flag in school program is a critical part of those efforts, you know, providing those youngsters with the opportunity to move, play, and grow through the sport of flag football. This would not be possible without our long-standing partnership with GENYOUth. We're really proud of that partnership and all they have done to develop this program and make it the success it is today." NFL FLAG-In-School is a critical entry point for millions of students to get moving in school. By providing free flag football equipment and a standards-based curriculum to schools, the program empowers educators to motivate students with a fun and inclusive activity designed for all skill levels.

Dallas Cowboys pledge $500k to relief efforts for Texas floods
The Dallas Cowboys have pledged $500,000 to the relief efforts of the devastating Texas floods. The Cowboys donation matches that of the other Lone Star State NFL franchise, the Houston Texans, who also announced they are committing $500,000 to provide help to those affected by the devastating flooding in the Texas Hill Country communities. As of Sunday morning, 59 had been confirmed dead, after flash floods in central Texas. However, Daily Mail reported on Sunday the death toll is set to top 100 as family members have been summoned to Kerrville to identify bodies. The Cowboys' emotional statement on the donation read: 'Our hearts are heavy as we witness the devastation and loss of life caused by the floods in Kerr County and Texas Hill Country, especially for 4 the young girls and their families, as well as all of those lost and their loved ones. 'This has been devastating to see and we hold everyone impacted in our thoughts and prayers. Standing side by side with The Salvation Army's critical response, we are also donating $500,000 to provide immediate resources for rescue, relief and long term recovery efforts.' Jones (pictured) net worth is a reported $17.8 billion, with some believing the money given in the name of his sports team, which is also valued at over $10 billion, is just pocket change at a time of need. 'Wow, 1/1000th of their worth,' a fourth continued. 'You can do more, Jerry,' a fifth concluded. The NFL Foundation announced later on Sunday that it would be combining with the Cowboys and Texans to donate a total of $1.5 million following both franchises' $500,000 donations, according to Adam Schefter. The Cowboys' in-state rivals had announced their own donation around 24 hours before the Dallas-based team. However, fans didn't appear to offer the same criticism towards the Texans over the size of their donation. A similar statement was released from Texans owners Janice, Hannah and Cal McNair with their donation, reading: 'We are heartbroken by the loss and damage that our neighbors in the Texas Hill Country have endured. 'We are especially devastated to hear about the children who are still missing and we are praying they are reunited with their families soon. 'Our hearts will remain with everyone affected and in addition to our donation, we will continued to support the search, rescue and recovery efforts in the coming weeks.' The death toll has risen to at least 59 people, including 21 children after the Guadalupe River flooded and surged by up to 30 feet above its usual water level Friday. The director of Camp Mystic was killed while trying to save girls from the horrific flooding that swept through the Texas summer camp. Richard 'Dick' Eastland (pictured), 70, died while trying to rescue campers from the biblical rushing waters that struck the state on July 4. At least 11 girls and one counselor are missing from Camp Mystic in Hunt, Texas, and five of their fellow campers have died after the rushing waters destroyed the all-girls private Christian summer camp.

Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans & NFL Foundation jointly donate $1.5M after Central Texas flood devastation (Image X) In the wake of the devastating flash floods that have taken place in Central Texas, football took a tangible turn. With heartbreak mounting across the region, the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans are stepping up in a big way. They are partnering with the NFL Foundation to pledge $1.5 million in aid to support families affected by this unimaginable tragedy. The catastrophic flooding, which began earlier last week and worsened by the weekend. It has left a trail of loss and destruction in its path. The move this time isn't about touchdowns or Super Bowls; it's more of a shoulder for help. Central Texas flash floods updates and the team's contribution Over 70 people have tragically lost their lives, including at least 28 children in Kerr County alone. Perhaps most heart-wrenching is the fate of 11 campers and one counselor who remain missing after the flooding reached a beloved summer camp. As Texas officials warned of a potential new 'wall of water' forming over the weekend, evacuations expanded and the crisis deepened. However, according to the Department of Homeland Security, 850 people were put in a safe place, according to CNN. On Sunday, the NFL announced that its two Texas-based teams, the Cowboys and the Texans, were joining forces with the league's official foundation to deliver $1.5 million in relief funding. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo 'The National Football League's two Texas-based teams - the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans - are uniting with the NFL Foundation to support the victims' families and survivors of the heartbreaking floods in central Texas. The Texans moved quickly, pledging $500,000 on Saturday to help provide emergency support to the hardest-hit communities. By Sunday, the Cowboys had matched the Texans' generosity with another $500,000, bringing the team total to $1 million. The NFL Foundation contributed the remaining $500,000, completing the $1.5 million pledge. How will the $1.5 million help rebuild While the specific breakdown of how each dollar will be used hasn't been publicly detailed, past relief efforts give a clear blueprint. Funds will likely flow through trusted organizations such as the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas, United Way of Greater Houston, and The Salvation Army's critical response team. These partners have the resources, personnel, and logistical reach to offer both immediate aid and long-term recovery assistance to families devastated by the floods. From providing shelter and meals to rebuilding homes and offering emotional support, this donation aims to bring hope and stability back to communities reeling from loss. And because both the Cowboys and Texans are deeply entrenched in their local communities, they've proven over the years that their support is both heartfelt and impactful. This isn't the first time the two franchises have shown up during a crisis. Back in 2017, after Hurricane Harvey pummeled Houston, the Cowboys and Texans joined forces again to help. In the coming days, the Cowboys and Texans are also expected to launch additional fundraising initiatives. Whether it's hosting donation drives, setting up relief booths at stadium events, or selling merchandise where proceeds benefit flood victims, both teams have a track record of mobilizing their massive fan bases to amplify support.
