Shedeur Sanders is in tough spot in Browns' QB competition even as he shines
Shedeur Sanders is doing his part early in training camp for the Cleveland Browns, but that doesn't necessarily mean that he's gaining ground on the starting role. Multiple insiders reported Browns coach Kevin Stefanski is impressed with third-round pick Dillon Gabriel early on, adding that the Oregon rookie is picking up the offense very quickly despite a lot being thrown at him. 'Browns coaches did not ask Sanders to integrate the same volume of playbook during minicamp as his counterparts,' ESPN's Jeremy Fowler said on 'NFL Live.' Getty Images ESPN Cleveland aggregated the four quarterbacks' combined OTA and minicamp stats, with Sanders having by far the highest completion percentage, coming in at 77.3 percent, well above Gabriel, Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett. Fowler adds that Sanders, who fell to the fifth round in the 2025 NFL Draft after previously expecting to be a first-round pick, did not receive any first-team reps throughout Browns camp; thus, the level of competition he faced was significantly lower than that of the other three. Advertisement Sanders was 41-for-53 with nine touchdowns (most) and one interception through OTAs and minicamp. NFL media's Judy Battista noted that Stefanski has consistently valued processing speed and decision-making. 4 Kevin Stefanski has valued 'processing speed' from his rookie quarterbacks. AP Battista added that Gabriel has had more put on his plate because he has absorbed so much information thanks in part to the 24-year-old playing six years in college football for Central Florida, Oklahoma and Oregon. Advertisement Tom Pellissero adds that the Browns will almost certainly not be carrying four quarterbacks through final roster cuts, so one of Sanders and Gabriel will likely be forced to start on the practice squad or they would need to cut Flacco or Pickett. 4 Dillon Gabriel playeyd six years of college football. AP 'It will almost be like a second draft for Shedeur,' Pellissero adds if Sanders is put on the practice squad and able to be scooped up by other teams. Advertisement The most important part of the summer for the two rookie quarterbacks will undoubtedly be the preseason, where Sanders and Gabriel will get the chance to impress against other teams. 4 Dillon Gabriel gears up to throw a pass during Browns minicamp. Getty Images If that does happen, Sanders could climb up the Browns' depth chart or separate himself enough to get a chance on another team. Sanders starred for Jackson State before transferring to Colorado Boulders, where he became a polarizing figure for the school. He, alongside Heisman Trophy-winning wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter, led the Boulders to a 13-12 record under head coach Deion Sanders. Sanders put up 4,134 yards in 2024 with 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions on a 74 percent completion rate in his second and final season in Boulder.

Steelers legend Ryan Clark says what everyone already knows about T.J. Watt's massive deal
T.J. Watt has made history with his three-year, $123 million contract extension with Pittsburgh — and one Steelers legend has weighed in on the blockbuster move. While some have scoffed at paying a soon-to-be 31-year-old defender an average salary of $41 million, ex-Steelers safety turned ESPN analyst Ryan Clark doesn't share that mindset, arguing Watt earned every penny of his massive payday. "You did what you were supposed to do, by giving T.J. Watt what he's earned, and what he has the potential to produce on the field for you," Clark said, via NFL Live on ESPN. "...Man, you had to do this. T.J. Watt earned this contract. You're taking care of all these people that aren't lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers. You're going to get this sort of production from T.J. Watt this year, next year, and the year after. As long as he's healthy and he's on the field, you know what he produces. You also know the way this equates to wins for this team." Clark hit the nail right on the head — because Watt's stats don't lie. In a defender's first eight seasons in the league, Watt ranks third with 108 sacks — just behind legends DeMarcus Ware and Reggie White. Despite his statistical success, Watt has yet to win a postseason game — a point doubters love to bring up. But that could change in 2025, as the Steelers boast a stacked roster following a flurry of high-profile signings and trades this offseason — and will look to make a deep playoff push. Latest update on Colts QB Anthony Richardson's shoulder
Here is the latest update on Colts QB Anthony Richardson's shoulder with training camp near. Earlier in the week, ESPN's Stephen Holder said on an appearance on NFL Live that Indianapolis Colts quarterback would be 'good' for training camp. In a report on Thursday, Holder expanded on that initial report. "Anthony Richardson Sr. is believed to have recovered from his recent right shoulder setback as the team prepares to report for training camp next week,' Holder wrote. Holder adds that with the players being away, the Colts' medical staff will still have to examine Richardson's shoulder. Holder also mentions the possibility of a 'pitch count' early on for Richardson as he ramps up. (This article will be updated with more information.)

Steelers receive bad news on potential Jauan Jennings trade
The Jauan Jennings to Pittsburgh hype train didn't make it very far — as ESPN's Adam Schefter's newest report has all but derailed any hope Steelers fans had about a potential trade. According to Schefter, while the 49ers have received several calls on a potential trade for Jennings, San Francisco isn't looking to move the fifth-year wide receiver. "Several teams have already inquired about Jauan Jennings availability, but the 49ers said they have no desire in trading the wide receiver," Schefter said, via NFL Live on ESPN. Schefter reported a few days ago that Jennings was seeking a new contract or a trade — sparking rumors of a potential move to the receiver-needy Pittsburgh offense. The Steelers are no strangers to San Francisco slamming the door shut on wide receiver trade talks — as evident by Pittsburgh's failed pursuit of 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk last summer. With available wideouts dwindling, the Steelers need to make a decision fast regarding the future of WR2 on offense — but signs continue to point to in-house receiver Calvin Austin taking the reins in 2025.
