Upon completion, she added, the new campus of TCS will span over 24 lakh sq. ft. of real estate and create 25,000 direct employment opportunities. 'To those who relentlessly malign Bengal and wilfully ignore the strides we are making, let this be a reminder of our capacity to deliver. Bengal is emerging as a hub of innovation, investment, and inclusive growth. BENGAL MEANS BUSINESS, and the world is taking note,' the Chief Minister's social media post further read. Additionally, on June 4, the Chief Minister had shared that semiconductor manufacturer GlobalFoundries will set up a fabless centre for design and testing at their Kolkata Power Centre. Fabless refers to in-house design and marketing of semiconductors, but with the fabrication (fab) process outsourced to a third-party manufacturer. 'We have already facilitated their operations by allotting 13,000 of space at the STPI IT Park in Sector V, Salt Lake. An additional 19,000 has been requested and the process is underway,' Ms Banerjee wrote on social media. She claimed that Santech Global Inc, a New Jersey-based firm specialising in semiconductors, nanoelectronics and telecommunication, has also 'shown keen interest' in setting up a major project in Kolkata. The Chief Minister added that the West Bengal government is working closely with startups, academia, and industry stakeholders to develop a 'comprehensive power electronics system' in Bengal. 'We are in the final stages of drafting the Global Capability Centre (GCC) Policy for West Bengal, which will further strengthen our State's position as a hub of next-generation technology and innovation. These initiatives reflect our commitment to building a robust semiconductor ecosystem in Bengal, creating new opportunities, generating meaningful employment for our youth, and positioning West Bengal at the forefront of India's technological renaissance,' Ms. Banerjee wrote.

24x7 control room, cleaning drives in New Town & Salt Lake
Kolkata: With an eye on monsoon, Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) are taking a slew of measures to minimise waterlogging in Salt Lake and New Town. BMC authorities are conducting drives to clean drainage lines with suction machines. On Tuesday morning, a gully pit emptier machine was used to clean drainage lines. "These machines are being used regularly. They draw accumulated waste from sewer lines. All eight sewerage and drainage pumping stations were upgraded and their capacity was augmented to flush out excess storm water," said a BMC official. Officials said that drop pumping stations were set up on a pilot basis for both Kestopur Canal and the eastern drainage channel, the two main canals through which excess storm water of Salt Lake gets flushed out. The entire underground BMC drainage network is also being cleaned regularly along with sludge removal work. A disaster management team is also on a standby to manage any emergency situation. Special attention is also given to Rajarhat-Gopalpur, where the underground drainage network was thoroughly upgraded in the past last four years. The area of concern, though, is the service road stretch at Haldiram crossing on VIP Road. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo PWD operates additional pumps during heavy rain to manage the situation. "Overall upgrade and augmentation of drainage network system in the BMC area is helping to flush out excess storm water quickly," said BMC MMiC (drainage and waste management) Debraj Chakraborty. In New Town, NKDA has taken extensive monsoon preparations to minimise waterlogging. A 24x7 control room has been set up to check whether there is waterlogging in any area. "Live CCTV feeds are being monitored continuously, and in case of water accumulation, tree collapse or other disruptions, quick-response teams will be sent to concerned areas,," said an official. Officials said that pre-emptive cleaning of drains, gully pits, and vulnerable low-lying areas is being carried out across the township. Special attention is being given to roads and residential pockets to ensure free flow of storm water. Focus is also given on canal sides to prevent accumulation of water. "Block supervisors will keep a watch on their areas and report any emergent issue through a dedicated WhatsApp coordination group," said an NKDA official.
